At the same time Gold catches on to The Evil Queen masquerading as Regina, and refused her advances. The Evil Queen then asks Gold for an item called the hammer of Hephaestus, which gives magic to those without it, explaining that she wants it for Henry.

Lucifer eventually catches on to this, and initially has trouble deciding on whether he should pursue Jaq or protect the necklace from Gus, standing by at the mouse hole. Despite her sleepy and sometimes annoying nature, Moca is sharp and understands the concerns of her friends, serving as a mediator for various in-band disputes. For instance, as a child, she is the first to approach Ran and invite her to play with the friends at the park. In middle school, she also catches on to Ran's behavior after being in a separate class. When the band becomes fractured by Ran repeatedly distancing herself prior to Girl Jam, Moca directly starts an argument in Tsugumi's hospital room that boils over until they are chided by a nurse, causing them to realize their friendship is too strong to be broken by petty disagreements.

Michael discovers he can communicate telepathically with one of Necessiter's brains, that of Anne Uumellmahaye. Michael and the disembodied brain fall in love, with Michael taking the brain away to spend more time with it. Dolores—having learned that Michael has received an inheritance from an aunt—attempts to reignite their relationship, but catches on to his relationship with Anne when she spots him in a rowboat with the jar.

At the Clock Tower, Gideon comes to and is tied up, with the magic-draining cuff on, as Gold tells him about what happened during the first Ogre Wars when he attempted to stop it. Gideon then told his father about what the Black Fairy did to him and why he wanted revenge. Gideon soon catches on to Gold's plan to erase his memory after he was given a tea that was laced with the forgetting potion, but his time with the Black Fairy has shown him how to counter it, and during a hug, he takes the dagger to control his father. Gideon then uses the dagger to force Gold to reveal the sword's origin and its forger, and Gold tells him that it was the Blue Fairy who created it.

Ren laments that the citizens of Bomont are so "wound up", muttering that at least in Chicago, he had the clubs to turn to in times of stress. After a quip by Willard suggesting that they "should take the coach dancing", Ren realizes that throwing a dance would be the perfect way to alleviate the teenagers' pressures, while at the same time making a statement to Moore and the town council. Willard tells Ren that he is insane, but Ren won't listen and reveals his plan to all of the students, eventually winning them over. Word catches on to Moore, who, as the one responsible for banning it to begin with, is determined to do anything within his power to ensure that it does not happen ("I'm Free/Heaven Help Me").

Things only get worse when Bonnie's journalist colleague Bert Scranton (Cliff Edwards)finds out too much, and Gang chief Jake Luva (Clark Gable) orders Rodney to murder him under threat of death, leaving him no choice but to go through with it. Bonnie is given the task of investigating the murder of her colleague, and she infiltrates Bert Scranton’s club as a dancer, eventually learning the horrifying truth that her brother is the murderer. Bert soon catches on to her act though, and he ambushes Bonnie, intending to kill her. However, Rodney arrives just in time and a shootout occurs, with Bonnie barely escaping with her life. As the authorities arrive, Bert and his henchmen are dead, but so is Rodney...and Bonnie cradles his head and cry’s.
