Cascabel is a ghost town in Cochise County, Arizona, United States. It is located at 32.291N / 110.378W, on the banks of the San Pedro River, east of Tucson and about 37 km north-northwest of Benson. The name Cascabel derives from Spanish for "rattle", because an early settler killed a large rattlesnake here. Cascabel was a small farming community.

The first boat howitzers to be designed were a light 12-pounder, a heavy 12-pounder (originally designated a "medium"), and a 24-pounder. Later a lighter 12-pounder (the "small") and a rifled 12-pounder heavy howitzer were introduced. All of the boat howitzers were very similar in design, cast in bronze, with a mounting lug or loop on the bottom of the barrel instead of trunnions, and an elevating screw running through the cascabel. Having the single mounting lug expedited moving the howitzer from the launch to field carriage and back.

The ability to fire solid shot would become increasingly important as armored warships appeared on the scene: All of the Dahlgren shell guns were cast iron columbiads, had a distinctive soda bottle shape and all but two had an elevating screw running through the cascabel. Although some Dahlgren shell guns were tested to failure, no Dahlgren shell gun burst during service, a notable distinction for the time. Dahlgren shell guns were capable of firing shot, shell, shrapnel, canister, and (with the exception of the XV-inch shell gun) grapeshot.

In Verne's description, a live volcano is located on the island: "Between the two capes on its southern coast, Cape Hawan and Cape Thomas, it is surmounted by a live volcano, which is marked on the recent maps." In common with other Royal Ordnance RML designs of the 1860s, Mark I used the strong but expensive Armstrong system of a steel tube surrounded by a complex system of multiple wrought-iron coils, which was progressively simplified in Marks II and III to reduce costs : Mark III consisted only of A tube, B tube, breech coil and cascabel screw. The first method used was inserting a wrought iron rifle sleeve through the muzzle; a similar steel sleeve was also used later. The last method involved drilling and tapping the breech of the 10-inch Rodman and inserting a rifled steel sleeve and screwing it in tight with a threaded breech plug. These breech- inserted guns are easily recognized by the square "cascabel" which was designed to provide purchase for screwing the breech plug and liner securely into the gun. These conversions were not viewed favorably and were primarily seen as cheap stopgaps until modern breech-loading rifles could be developed and emplaced.

Its course traverses deep sedimentary basins flanked by the Huachuca, Mule, Whetstone, Dragoon, Rincon, Little Rincon, Winchester, Galiuro, Tortilla, and Santa Catalina Mountains. The San Pedro is fed by numerous tributaries, which in general, drain relatively short and steep catchments oriented more or less perpendicular to the mainstem. For most of its length the San Pedro flows over sedimentary basin fill deposits, although it is bound by bedrock at the Tombstone Hills at Charleston and near Fairbank, “the Narrows” south of Cascabel, near Redington, and again at Dudleyville (Heindl, 1952). Two major tributaries, Babocomari River and Aravaipa Creek, each have extensive bedrock-lined stretches.

The cascabel (the large ball at the rear of old muzzle-loaded guns) of several cannon captured during the siege was said to have been used to make the British Victoria Cross, the highest award for gallantry in the British Armed Forces. However, Hancocks, the manufacturer, confirms that the metal is Chinese, not Russian, bronze. The cannons used are in the Firepower Museum in Woolwich and are clearly Chinese. There would be no reason why Chinese cannon would be in Sevastopol in the 1850s and it is likely that the VC guns were, in fact, British trophies from the China war in the 1840s held in the Woolwich repository.

Thelma Nava was born in Mexico City, November 25, 1932. She studied at the Casa del Lago Juan José Arreola; at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM); and at the Centro Mexicano de Escritores ("Mexican Center of Writers") where she wrote her first work, Aquí te guardo yo ("Here I keep you"). Nava was co-founder of the magazine El Rehilete y, with Luis Mario Schneider and Armando Zárate. She founded the magazine Pájaro Cascabel (1962-1968) and served as its publisher. She participated in the collective management of the magazines Xilote (1969-1977) and Manatí (1974-1984) as well as La Brújula en el Bolsillo.

On 11 April 2012, it was announced that SolGold had acquired the right to buy up to 85% of a highly prospective gold-copper-silver project in Ecuador, after signing a binding letter of intent with Cornerstone Capital Resources, a Canadian mining company which is listed on the TSX Venture Exchange. Just over two months later, it was announced that both parties had finalised the agreement, and a $2.8 million first year exploration programme had begun. Following a magnetic and radiometric survey of Cascabel, as well as soil sampling and rock alteration mapping, the results were said to be both "“very encouraging" and "“extremely prospective". Trench sampling also confirmed outcropping gold-copper mineralisation.

In December 2017, accepting El Corte Inglés Lisboa's challenge, he developed three different concepts for the Gourmet Experience: Tasca Chic, with Portuguese traditional flavours, Jacaré, a vegetarian carnivore, and Barra Cascabel, with Mexican flavours, in a partnership with chef Roberto Ruiz. In May 2018, on the date of 1998's Lisbon World Exposition anniversary, he opens Cantinho do Avillez in Parque das Nações (the exhibition's site).

In November 1861 the first U.S. Government order was made for Rodman's fifteen-inch cannon, "...the largest in the U.S. arsenal." During the conflict around 130 fifteen-inch, 445 ten-inch, and 213 eight-inch Rodman guns were purchased by the U.S. Government, and an unknown number made after the conflict. Some have argued that these guns are not Dahlgren designs, pointing out that while the guns generally resemble his designs, these guns used old-style breeching jaws instead of the breech loop found on other Dahlgrens and that there is no elevating screw running through the cascabel . It is also asserted that the guns would have to be elevated by quoins. This is not accurate, particularly for the VIII-inch Dahlgren, as a new iron carriage with an elevating screw beneath the breech of the gun was developed for VIII-inch and other carriages with breech elevating screws were also used . It is also argued that the bores were too small for their late introduction and very few saw service during or after the American Civil War.

Included among the country's snake fauna are some of the very smallest in the world (the fossorial thread snakes in the genus Epictia and other blind snakes), to the very largest of snakes in the world (the green anaconda). Anacondas (locally called the huille) have been historically found around streams, rivers and swamps in southern and eastern Trinidad, and recently also in the Caroni River drainage system. They have not been reported from Tobago. Three other boas, namely Boa constrictor (locally called the macajuel), Corallus ruschenbergerii (a tree boa locally called the cascabel dormilon) and Epicrates maurus (a rainbow boa) are found in forest and forest edge habitats throughout both islands (with the last even being common in some urban areas).

The British adopted them faster than the French, who had still not generally adopted them by the time of the Battle of Trafalgar (1805), placing them at a disadvantage, as the new technology was in general use by the Royal Navy at this time. After the introduction of gunlocks, linstocks were retained, but only as a backup means of firing. The linstock slow match or the spark from the flintlock ignited the priming powder, which in turn set off the main charge, which propelled the shot out of the barrel.
