The comprehensive research reports detail findings from two large animal studies -- one in rats and one in mice -- that link high levels of cell phone radiation to some evidence of carcinogenic activity in male rats, including a rare type of tumor called a schwannoma in their hearts.
The first chemicals the EPA will evaluate must come from a list the agency has already decided merit review — chemicals that pose concerns for children's health, are carcinogenic, environmentally persistent, toxic, and build up in fat or other living tissue, or are widely found in biomonitoring programs.
Among the most worrisome findings: 41 percent of dorm rooms they tested had levels of TDCIPP (a carcinogenic chemical that has also been linked with hormone disruption and harmful effects on the nervous system) that are above the level the US Environmental Protection Agency deems a health risk.
