Nikola Nalješković () (around 1500, Dubrovnik - 1587, Dubrovnik) was a Ragusan poet, playwright and scholar. He wrote poetry, romantic canzones, masques (carnival songs), epistles, pastoral plays, mythological plays, farce, comedy and drama with features of Plautine erudite comedy and Roman mime. His dramatic works include lascivious and common themes.

He retired in 1964. Sköld was the author of the first original music composed in the auxiliary language Occidental; in 1934 he wrote two pieces, Du canzones, for three-part female choir and piano to words by Czech poet Jaroslav Podobsky. The two songs were entitled Alaude, canta! (Sing, lark) and Ne abandona me (Don't leave me).

Kemal was born to Osvaldo and Bahrija two years later in Sarajevo. Although his father was Catholic and his mother was a Muslim, Kemal was given a Muslim name. Osvaldo only spoke Italian and sang canzones to Kemal when he was a child, while his mother sang him Bosnian sevdalinkas. Both Osvaldo and Bahrija were employed at Sarajevo's Koševo stadium.

Torquato Tasso dedicated several sonnets, canzones, eulogies and dialogues to Barbara of Austria. Another Italian poet, Giovanni Battista Guarini, also dedicated a canzon to her. The collection of the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna contains two portraits of Barbara. In the early one, a work of Giuseppe Arcimboldo, she is depicted during the period of her negociations of her marriage to Alfonso II in 1563-1564 and presumably made for her future husband.

The Soviet audience, uncustomary with the stage performance resembling the performances of Western singers, accepted him immediately. He soon achieved large popularity in Soviet Union and started regularly going on Soviet Union tours. At the peak of his popularity in the Soviet Union he held fifteen concerts in a row on the Lenin Stadium in Moscow, performing every evening in front of approximately 15,000 people. During his tours in Soviet Union he performed French chansons, Italian canzones, but also covers of songs by Bob Dylan, The Beatles, The Mamas & the Papas, The Animals and other rock acts.

Johnson was born in the Ettrick Valley, the third of four children to Bessie Bleck and James Johnstan, a herdsman. He may have been trained to become an engraver under James Reed of Edinburgh. He was a prolific engraver of music and made the plates for over half the music printed in Scotland from 1772 to 1790. His early engravings were done on copper and included Six Canzones for Two Voices (1772), A Collection of Favourite Scots Tunes … by the Late Mr Chs McLean and other Eminent Masters (c1772) and Twenty Minuets (1773) by Daniel Dow.

In his 180 romantic canzones (published in 1876, under the title Pjesni ljuvene), a kind of history of the poet's love was set, from time to time in a morally didactic tone, and a view of Dubrovnik's social life at the time was given, intertwining reflection and melancholia, pain in love and "general pessimism." Nalješković probably wrote pjesni bogoljubne, i.e. religious, spiritual poetry, in his old age. Continuing the mediaeval tradition, the themes of Christian theology enriched the complex forms and meditative-reflective emphases in his poetry, as well as the extremely emotional attitudes of the lyrics' subject.

Cover of the Canzione Spirituali a Una, a Due et a Tre Voci, of 1640 Pietro Paolo Sabbatino or Sabbatini (1600 - 1657) was an Italian composer, orchestra director and musician, who was born and died in Rome, and worked mainly in his home city. He composed mostly popular songs of his time, such as villanellas, capriccios, canzones and canzonettas, but he also composed religious music works, such as psalms. His best known work are the Canzoni Spirituali a Una, a Due et a Tre Voci (Spiritual Songs at One, Two and Three Voices), published in 1640. He wrote a textbook on religious music, titled Toni Ecclesiastici Colle sue Intonazioni all'Uso Romano (1650).

The wedding celebrations, during which the "Temple of Love" was built and a grandiose tournament took place, lasted until 9 December. Among the guests at the wedding were the former fiancé of Barbara, the Duke of Mantua with his wife, her older sister. Torquato Tasso (at that time the court poet of the Dukes of Ferrara) was a witness to the solemn entry of the bride's cortege to Ferrara and subsequent wedding; he later described what he saw in his pastoral drama "Aminta", in which he dedicated several canzones to the memory of Barbara. The celebrations were short due to the death of Pope Pius IV. Becoming a Duchess of Ferrara, Barbara won the love of her subjects thanks to the mercy with which she treated all people in need of him.
