Book of Lost Dreams offers complete crossover rules for introducing Changeling to any Storyteller chronicle. The 64-page book also includes new rules for cantrips and combat, as well as an adventure, "Capture the Flag", and a Storyteller screen.

In the December 1997 edition of Dragon (Issue #242), Rick Swan thought the idea of packaging a Storyteller screen with a source book was "admirable". He called the new rules for cantrips and combat "nifty", and the included adventure "intense".

Other classes, such as bards and sorcerers, "have a limited list of spells they know that are always fixed in the mind". The idea of at-will magic from fourth edition "mainly survives now as the mechanic behind cantrips, which allow spellcasting classes to keep using magic even when" they've used up all of their daily spell slots. Magic is once again only divided into two types: arcane and divine.

According to Mario Pazzaglini, author of the 1999 translation, the Italian contains misspellings, missing words, and grammatical errors, and is in a standardised Italian rather than the local dialect one might expect. Pazzaglini concludes that Aradia represents material translated from dialect to basic Italian and then into English, creating a summary of texts, some of which were mis-recorded.Pazzaglini, p. 92. Leland himself called the text a "collection of ceremonies, 'cantrips,' incantations, and traditions" and described it as an attempt to gather material, "valuable and curious remains of ancient Latin or Etruscan lore" that he feared would be lost.

The guru of a village, exposed as a fraudster by Yoshiko and company. Merebu joins the party to see the outside world. He learns at least one new magic spell per episode, putting on airs as he describes it to the party, but they are all underpowered cantrips that at best mildly inconvenience the enemy. Between this and his lack of physical prowess, most view Merebu as useless — the church only charges a few gold, or none at all, to revive him, whereas the revival prices for Danjo and Murasaki climb into the tens of thousands.

The novel takes place in a warped version of the present, the Elizabethan Age. Due to the (re-)discovery of the 'Arte of Magick' during the Renaissance, much of the economic and societal workings are pre-industrial in nature, such as the city of London being powered by energy magickally derived from the Cantrips, even though exceptions exist. Politically, Britain and Spain were united through the marriage of Elizabeth I of England and Philip II of Spain, forming the 'Unity', a huge empire comprising all territories under British or Spanish possession at that time. In time, the power seems to have shifted strongly from Spain to England, the Queen and the British Court, with the Unity being ruled by Elizabeth XXX.
