Its name after Wat Kanlayanamit, a prominent local Thai Buddhist temple rim Chao Phraya River. The area is considered to be one of the most important areas in Bangkok's history. In the early Ayutthaya period before canalizing Chao Phraya River caused the canals Khlong Bangkok Yai and Khlong Bangkok Noi, this area was home to people on the wooden houseboats. The lake had filled up with sawdust and other debris from mills along the Otonabee above the lake over the last forty years. Material dredged from the lake could be used to build up and widen Crescent Street, thus serving a double purpose. The lake was described as a body of water about of a mile (0.5 km) across that originally had a depth of . Canalizing the Otonabee River through a navigable stretch from Little Lake to Lakefield would open a continuous line of navigable water from Healey Falls to Balsam Lake, and was the subject of much discussion in the 1890s.

Neal, West Virginia is located on U.S. Route 52 just across the Big Sandy River from Neal, Kentucky. This is no coincidence as both communities were once the same and were named after the same family who owned property on both sides of the river. Prior to Kentucky becoming a state, it was part of Virginia making both sides of the river in the same state. Also, before the canalizing of the river was completed in the late 19th century, unless the water was high, it was possible to walk across the river making both sides of the river accessible to persons living on either bank.

János Nepomuk Farkas de Boldogfa directed the administrative and judicial part of the county for more than two years, and consumed Deák's plans for canalizing the lakes of Szévizi and also the drying and changing the course of the rivers and modifying the ponds of Szentmihály, Pölöske, Fakos, Pötréte and Hahót. He married on 1811 the Hungarian noble lady Angéla Cecilia Skublics Besenyő et Velike (1775–1839), who gave him three children. Their grandson was József Farkas de Boldogfa (1857–1951), landowner, politician, Member of the Hungarian Parliament.

He was elected deputy of the Moselle on 16 November 1919 on the Lorraine Republican Democratic Union platform, and was reelected on 11 May 1924. He joined committees on social insurance and social welfare, the army, mines, power and Alsace-Lorraine. He made proposals for legislation for canalizing the Moselle from Metz to downstream of Thionville, and for making unused barracks and government buildings available for the gendarmerie. As a member of the General Council of Moselle from 1922 Guy de Wendel was responsible for the development of various types of social services for workers in Moselle, and for physical education, sports and military training.

John Brown was the director of the Port Hope Canal Company, while George Strange Boulton of Cobourg was busy forming the Cobourg and Rice Lake Railway with Bethune. Each favoured their own route in Durham, over the complaints of those living in Northumberland who wanted the route to follow the Trent through their county. Boulton hatched a plan to kill the Trent route by ordering a complete survey of the river, hoping the cost of canalizing it would be far greater than building his railway. After several debates in the Legislature, on 13 February 1833 money was set aside for a survey, contracting Nicol Hugh Baird of Montreal to carry it out.

The Universal House of Justice became the head of the Bahá'í Faith upon its election in 1963 by Bahá'ís from around the world. The covenant of Bahá'u'lláh is specifically referred to by Shoghi Effendi as the means of directing and canalizing the spiritual forces released by Bahá'u'lláh's revelation in this world, and to "insure their harmonious and continuous operation after His ascension". He further stated the purpose of Bahá'u'lláh's covenant is to preserve the Faith's influence and integrity, to protect its unity, and to stimulate its growth around the planet.

Roquemaure was vulnerable to flooding by the Rhône and on the southern wall of the church there are marks recording the height of the water in the major floods of 1755 and 1840 when most of the town would have been under more than one meter of water. There was another very destructive flood in May–June 1856.. In 1860 the French state agreed to pay two thirds of the cost of the construction of a dyke to protect the town.. The dyke began at the Colline Saint-Jean and followed the river south to the village of Sauveterre. It protected the town during the severe flooding of 1935. After World War II the Compagnie Nationale du Rhône began canalizing the river.
