Around 1827, the Torodbe cleric 'Umar Tall left Futa Toro and made an extended pilgrimage to Mecca. El Hadj 'Umar Tall returned in 1846 and began recruiting for a Jihad.

Their secret fraternal orders and sororities, known as Poro and Sande, or Bundu, respectively, are based on ancient traditions believed to have emerged about 1000 CE. These govern the internal order of their society, with important rites of passage and entry into the gender societies as boys and girls come of age in puberty.

United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUC) carried out a special inquiry into the events. The report"Special Inquiry Into the Bas Congo Events of February and March 2008", MONUC Human Rights Division, 2008. concludes that at least 100 people, mainly members of Bundu dia Kongo, were killed in the police operations in Bas-Congo.

The Torodbe Mālik Sī launched one of the first of the jihads towards the end of the seventeenth century in Bundu. Mālik Sī was born into a Torodbe family around 1637 near Podor in Futa Toro. He received formal Islamic training in what is now southern Mauritania. He married, and traveled from place to place trying to live by selling amulets.

The first is nominally reserved for females, but members of the Poro are admitted to certain ceremonies. All the female members of the Yassi must be also members of the Bundu, which is strictly reserved to women. In Liberia, the female equivalent of the Poro is the Sande society. Of the three, the Poro is by far the most important.

Bajheri is a medium village located in Muzaffarnagar district, Uttar Pradesh, India. It is 3 km away from Muzaffarnagar City. This village was founded around 300 years ago by Mr Bundu who also owned a bagh (garden) about 1000 bighas, which is about one-third the area of the whole village. This village consists 97% of Muslims and 3% of Dalit (chamar).

Bundu dia Kongo advocates the establishment of a federal state in Central Africa and the eradication of social and economic injustice imposed on the Kongo people by local governments. The movement also advocates the resistance to programmed destructuring of the historical consciousness of the Kongo people, their founding values and deep personality through a better knowledge of their spiritual heritage.

The Bundu territory has a tropical climate with alternating dry and rainy seasons. The region has abundant water resources, the most important rivers being the Lubwe, Loange, Kamtsha and the Piopio. Precipitation in the rainy season is so intense that it is a major obstacle to farming and a time when food may be scarce. Hunting and fishing are individual activities during this period.

In the last quarter of the seventeenth century the Zawaya reformer Nasir al-Din launched a jihad to restore purity of religious observance in the Futa Tooro. He gained support from the Torodbe clerical clan against the warriors, but by 1677 the movement had been defeated. In autumn of 1790, an Irish major named Daniel Houghton was commissioned to proceed from the mouth of the river Gambia on Africa's western coast, moving inland towards (hopefully) the Niger. He penetrated farther into Africa than any European before him.Kryza p. 18. From the highest navigable point on the Gambia he continued on foot northeast toward Bundu, where the local authorities delayed his passage.

Bundu Farm site is located on the eastern edge of Bushmanland. Candy Tsa Mandebele Mokwena (born June 19, 1970) is a South African singer, songwriter, actress. Mandebele began singing in her mother's community traditional group, Sekgapa, at the age of 14. Mandebele began her career in 1993 as a songwriter, prior to joining group Shaka Bundu Girls in 1995. Mandebele is also well known for singing in Khelobedu language, which is a dialect of Northern Sotho language.

Ewon was born and raised in Bundu Tuhan, Ranau. A village located at the foot of the tallest mountain in South East Asia, The Mount Kinabalu. He is married with six children and has a Bachelor of Legislative Law (LLB) conferred by the University of Malaya. After graduation, he became a lawyer and owned a Law Firm, Tetuan Vitales Ewon & Co, in Kota Kinabalu.

During the 1670s, they declared jihads on non-Muslims. Several states were formed from these jihadist wars, at Futa Toro, Futa Djallon, Macina, Oualia, and Bundu. The most important of these states was the Sokoto Caliphate or Fulani Empire. In the city of Gobir, Usman dan Fodio (1754–1817) accused the Hausa leadership of practicing an impure version of Islam and of being morally corrupt.

According to the police, the clashes resulted in the death of 25 people (22 of them in Luozi) and many wounded. It took nearly a month and a half to travel the 100 or more miles from Fungurume to Sankisia, the railhead for a narrow-gauge railway. French military forces had previously avoided conflicts with the most powerful states in the area, the Toucouleur empire along the Niger River, and the Cayor in the south. By sending emissaries to sign protectorates with weaker states (Bubakar Saada of Bundu, King Samba of Khasso) and by completing the "pacification" of Casamance and the Wolof peoples through what is now northern Senegal, Faidherbe quickly came into direct conflict with these states.

After the defeat in 1674, some of the Torodbe migrated south to Bundu and some continued on to the Fouta Djallon. Abortion is illegal in Sierra Leone under any circumstances. President Ernest Bai Koroma refused to sign the 2015 Safe Abortion Act. Unsafe abortions account for 10% of maternal deaths. Excluding Sierra Leone Creole women who do not practice or engage in female genital mutilation, 9 out of 10 girls and women in Sierra Leone have undergone female genital mutilation, often as part of the traditional Bundu or Bondu initiation ceremony into the Sande society.

The Surya Temple or Surya Mandir (), located near Bundu, is a Hindu temple complex dedicated to the solar deity, Surya. It is situated on top of a hill, on the NH-33 (Ranchi-Tata Road), approximately from the capital city of Jharkhand, Ranchi. The temple is constructed in the form of huge chariot with elegantly designed eighteen wheels and seven naturalistic horses. The temple also houses several other deities including Shiva, Parvati and Ganesha.

He migrated to Pakistan and lived in Karachi until his death on 13 January 1955. Lamine traveled to Upper Senegal and began to gather followers using the prestige gained from his hajj and his subsequent role in the Toucouleur jihad. In February 1886, Lamine led his forces in armed rebellion against the French. By the end of the month, they had taken Bundu and Guoy, and vastly outnumbered the local French garrison at Medina Fort. When French reinforcements to Kayes were delayed, Lamine began a siege of Fort Bakel.

The remaining territories of the kingdom were assimilated into the colony of Angola and the Protectorate of Cabinda respectively. The modern-day Bundu dia Kongo sect favors reviving the kingdom through secession from Angola, the Republic of the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Gabon.

According to P.S. Shim's book "Inland People of Sabah: Before, During and After Nunuk Ragang" published in 2007, states that the ancestors of the Kadazandusuns came from Baram, Sarawak starting from the year 1200. P.S. Shim insisted that the Kadazan tribe settled the plains of Kimanis, Papar around 1220. Another group which identify themselves as the Tatana tribe settled in Bundu, Kuala Penyu. Subsequently, a great number of Kadazans migrated from Papar to Putatan-Penampang in the 1800s.

Lettow-Vorbeck's fluency in the Swahili language apparently earned the respect and admiration of his African soldiers. He appointed black officers and reportedly stated that "we are all Africans here". In one historian's opinion, > "It is probable that no white commander of the era had so keen an > appreciation of the African's worth not only as a fighting man but as a > man."Miller, Charles (1974), Battle for the Bundu, The First World War in > East Africa p. 38.

Michael A. Gomez, Pragmatism in the Age of Jihad They claim to originate in Ja on the Niger River and Jahaba on the Bafing River, from which they moved to Bundu, Futa Jallon and Gambia. The Jakhanke were not primarily merchants, but agriculturists supported by slave labor. The various Jakhanke villages were independent of each other and of the local chiefs. The Jakhanke were committed to peaceful coexistence and refused to become engaged in politics or war.

They are bigger and heavier than modern specimens, which suggests cooler temperature in Pleistocene. These species also prefer standing water with high content of minerals and are more resistant to heat. They are slow grazers that prefer open grassland. Deposits of the gastropod, Tomichia ventricosa, at Swartkolkkloer, a large pan site 100 km to the west of Bundu, have been used in support of the argument that when standing water was present in the past, it was predominantly brackish.

Parliament of Sierra Leone is the legislative branch of the government of Sierra Leone. It is principally responsible for making laws. The Sierra Leone parliament consists of 146 members, of which 132 members are directly elected from across Sierra Leone's 16 districts, while 14 are paramount chiefs appointed from the 14 rural districts. The parliament is led by the Speaker of the House; the position is currently held by Abass Bundu of the Sierra Leone People's Party.

An account of the second trip had been published in English in 1815. Caillié returned to Bordeaux in France and then travelled to Senegal where he arrived at end of 1818. He made a journey into the interior to the pre-colonial state of Bundu to carry supplies for a British expedition but he fell ill with fever and was obliged to return to France. In 1824 he returned to Senegal for the third time with the desire to visit the African interior.

The Bundu Farm site (/ˈbʊnduː/) is a kidney shape depression (or pan) of land located in the Bushmanland region of Northern Cape, South Africa. The excavations at this site during 1998-2003 had unearthed a sequence of archaeological remains including Earlier, Middle and Later Stone Age assemblages and preserved fauna. These discoveries give an insight into the occupation of the Bushmanland prehistoric people and possible connection of cultures and traditions between the central interior and the West coast of South Africa.

Andrew Christopher "Bundu" Waller (born 25 September 1959 in Salisbury – now Harare) is a former Zimbabwean cricket player who played two Tests and 39 One Day Internationals for Zimbabwe's national cricket team. After retiring from the game he took up the post of coach of the Namibian national team. In April 2009, Waller was named the coaching manager of Zimbabwe Cricket. In September 2009, he was named the head coach of Mid West Rhinos, one of the Zimbabwe's newly introduced five cricket franchises.

Some slaves from Senegambia were Muslims while most followed their traditional spiritual practices. Many were likely captives taken in the Islamic jihads that engulfed the region from Futa Djallon to Futa Toro and Futa Bundu (modern Upper Niger River) in the early 18th century. The inland territories of the African continent from which slaves were captured, were enormous. Commentators may have attributed more similarities to slaves taken from among these areas than the Africans recognized among themselves at the time.

They aimed to eliminate relics of traditional religious beliefs, and to elevate Islam from a personal belief into the law of the land, creating theocratic states. After they had taken power it was at first thought that the Torodbe would eventually eliminate obstacles to social movement, perhaps even freeing the slaves. A person would achieve status through Islamic learning and observance of Islamic precepts. In practice, particularly in Futa Toro and Bundu, the Torodbe evolved into a closed society limited to a small number of families.

But it became a hit. The combination of traditional melodies with dance pop, that was something new." Penny explained his usage of the language on the album in retrospect: Until the release of Shaka Bundu, Tsonga music was dominated by Paul Ndlovu, who had a hit with "Ts'akane," and the late Peta Teanet, and Tsonga disco was still only accepted within the Northern Province. Shrimani recalled: "Shangaan people suffered from an inferiority complex and didn't want to be seen playing Shangaan music in their homes.

The Imamate of Futa Jallon was a Muslim theocratic Fula-dominated state similar to the Imamate of Futa Toro in what is today Senegal. In September 1865, the Turban Kelo or Kansala War broke out. Futa Jallon found common cause with its brethren in Kaabu against both the enslavement of Fula and their abuse by traditionalist Mandinka rulers. The Kingdom of Futa Jallon contributed around twenty-five thousand soldiers. This was augmented by warriors from Bundu and some of the Muslim Mandinka states on Kaabu’s periphery.

He was rushing to the Bundu Tuhan Retreat Centre at Kundasang on 7 June 2010, a day after his 42nd Birthday, to attend a week-long seminar there. Among the unopened mail he brought along was a letter with a Bangkok post mark, the city where the office of the Apostolic Nuncio of Pope Benedict XVI was located. He found time to read the letter, and to his shock it informed him of his appointment. He spent the next two days in reflection before answering the call.

Mansa Djata died in around 1255,Stride & Ifeka, page 49 and he was succeeded by his son who ruled until 1270.Houtsma, page 241 Mansa Ouali I (also known as Ali, Uli or Wali) proved to be able and energetic leader according to Ibn Khaldun. During his reign, the Mandinka conquered or absorbed Bundu near the Senegal River. The empire also conquered the city of Gao, epicenter of the burgeoning Songhai state, and brought Timbuktu and Jenne into its ambit if not its actual control.

In Sabah are still the followers of the indigenous religion Momolianism: the Kadazan-Dusuns worshipped Kinoingan, a rice deity, and celebrate Kaamatan, the harvest festival, every year. During Kaamatan, there are certain rituals which has to be carried out by the high priestesses known as bobohizans (or bobolian in the Bundu-Liwan dialect of Dusun). Today, most Kadazan-Dusuns have adopted Christianity, but some still celebrate Kaamatan. However, the number of bobohizans has tremendously dropped and this role is on the brink of extinction.

The term evolved into American slang to refer to the countryside or isolated rural/wilderness area, regardless of topography or vegetation. Similar slang or colloquial words are "the sticks", "the wops", "the backblocks", or "Woop Woop" in Australia, "the wop-wops" in New Zealand, "bundu" in South Africa (etymologically unrelated to "boondocks" or "bundok"), and "out in the tules" in California. The diminutive "boonies" can be heard in films about the Vietnam War such as Brian De Palma's Casualties of War (1989) used by American soldiers to designate rural areas of Vietnam.

One civilian lost most of his fingers to a tear gas canister explosion, and another fell into a coma after breathing tear gas. On June 30, heavily armed FARDC soldiers in the Bas-Congo Province town of Matadi fired indiscriminately at a demonstration by Bundu Dia Kongo (BDK) separatists after a BDK member attacked and killed a soldier. The soldiers killed 13 civilians and injured 20. The ONDH issued a report assigning responsibility for the deaths to the commander of the Second Military Region who, believing the protesters were armed, had deployed FARDC troops.

This means that a move to natural gas may have greater greenhouse gas effects than continuing with coal power in the short- and medium-term. Three companies have received permits to frack roughly 1/5th of the area of South Africa. Shell's portion covers roughly 90,000 km2, Falcon's covers 32,000 km2, and Challenger Energy's (Bundu) covers 3,200 km2. Due to considerable public pressure, a temporary moratorium on hydraulic fracturing for shale gas in South Africa's Karoo region was imposed in July 2011, to examine concerns about safety and environmental degradation, particularly that of water safety.

The Dusun of old traded with the coastal people by bringing their agricultural and forest produce (such as rice and amber 'damar') to exchange for salt, salted fish and other products. The Dusun has a special term to describe this type of trading activity, i.e. mongimbadi. This was before the development of the railroad and road network connecting the interior with the coastal regions of Sabah. The present Tambunan-Penampang road was largely constructed based on the trading route used by the Bundu-Liwan Dusun to cross the Crocker Range on their mongimbadi.

Ramchandra provided harmonium accompaniment for Minerva composers Bundu Khan and Habib Khan. He debuted as music director in Tamil movies with Jayakkodi and Vana Mohini. He received public notice as a good composer in Bhagwan Dada's Sukhi Jeevan (1942), and established a long association that culminated with the musical box office hit Albela (1951). Influenced by Benny Goodman, Ramchandra introduced in his compositions the alto sax in combination with guitar and harmonica. He also included whistling in one of his famous songs, Aana meri jaan Sunday ke Sunday in film Shehnai (1947).

Bundu spent a season at Hereford, winning three trophies and reaching the FA Vase final in 2016. Work authorisation restrictions only allowed him to ply his trade in a club no higher than the fifth tier in the English football league system which forced him to leave Hereford. The goalscorer returned briefly to spectate one of their games, a 6–0 defeat of Bridgwater Town in the Southern Football League. When visiting a friend, he featured for Newquay once, netting two goals in less than thirty minutes as a substitute.

Shaka Bundu is the debut album by South African musician Penny Penny, released in 1994. Penny was discovered in a Johannesburg recording studio by producer Joe Shirimani, who was impressed by Penny's unique vocal style. Shirimani's record label Shandel Music enjoyed the demos he produced for Penny, and let the pair record an album together. Recorded over the space of one week using an Atari computer, Korg M1 synthesiser and reel-to-reel tape, the album blends the Tsonga disco style of music with American house music, reflecting the popularity of American and British electronic dance music in South Africa.

" Fact Magazine described the album's musical style as "good-time house," comparing it to Inner City, albeit with "some added springbok flavour," while future collaborator Brian Shimkovitz described Shaka Bundu as a synth-pop album. Penny presents a party vibe throughout the album that was described by NPR as "hearty but not frantic, more plain sexy than raunchy." The songs are in the Tsonga or Xitsonga language, or more specifically its Limpopo-region dialect Xihlanganu, one of the least-heard languages in South Africa. Penny explained: "When I made the demo everyone was like 'Na na na na na, don't like this.

Women's education in West Africa manifested in both formal and informal structures, with one of the more notable structures that had influence on women's education being preparatory schools labeled "Bush Schools." These bush schools were institutions that would oftentimes boast near 100% graduation rates and completed courses. They were organized by women and had a planned, structured curriculum, which included learning how to do skills such as learning how to "fish, cook, weave, spin cotton, dress hair, and make baskets, musical instruments, pots, and fishing nets." Much of the scholarship and research on these schools arises from the Bundu schools of Sierra Leone.

The chordophones used often include the khalam, xalamkat or ngoni (lute with one to five strings), kora (harp lute) and riti (one-stringed bow handled lute). Percussion instruments include dried, hollow gourds, the tamal (armpit drum) as well as the balafon (percussion instrument akin to the xylophone). Senegalese griot playing a tamal Griot playing a Xalamkat One of the most frequently retold oral epics in the geographical region of Senegambia is the mythic story of the Bundu Kingdom’s establishment in the 1690s. The story has varying interpretations and many alternative narratives, however the story follows a common thematic sequence.

The tale follows a Pulaar-speaking cleric called Maalik Sii from Suyuuma, a region within the Futa Toro kingdom, located along the modern day border of Senegal and Mauritania. He and his followers, through skillful diplomacy and military strategy, expelled the Soninke- speaking Gajaaga kingdom from the region known as Bundu and granted political independence to the many Pulaar people already inhabiting the area. The story is often told in such a way that justifies the existence of the state whilst legitimising the authority of its rulers. In the contemporary age, griots have maintained their significance as traditional custodians through performance.

Dan Fodio's uprising was a major episode of a movement described as the Fula jihads in the seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth centuries. It followed the jihads successfully waged in Futa Bundu, Futa Tooro, and Fouta Djallon between 1650 and 1750, which led to the creation of those three Islamic states. In his turn, the Shehu inspired a number of later West African jihads, including those of Seku Amadu, founder of the Massina Empire, Omar Saidou Tall, founder of the Toucouleur Empire, who married one of dan Fodio's granddaughters, and Modibo Adama, founder of the Adamawa Emirate.

Manggatal was originally populated sparsely by native Dusuns of the Bundu ethnic. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, this native population was supplemented by Chinese migrants, most of whom were Hakkas. The Chinese community of Manggatal, which is still dominated by Hakkas, plays an important role in the town's economy as its members own most of the shops in the town. Starting in the 1970s, Manggatal has witnessed a drastic increase in the population of Filipino and Indonesian immigrants, many of whom have been naturalised (both legally and illegally) and live in squatter colonies.

According to author Charles Miller, "the objective for the capture of Longido was to squeeze the German Schutztruppe in the upper end of a two- hundred-mile pincer."Miller, Battle for the Bundu, p. 54 The region was a major German settlement area with established plantations of sisal, coffee and other cash crops at the northern edge of the Usambara highlands. Since small German raiding parties had already begun to ambush British detachments and attack the Uganda Railway, the destruction of German forces in the area bordering British East Africa was a key objective of the British plan of operation.

The principal adornment of these girls from the Bundu tribe in Sierra Leone is the adornment of bodies and faces with markings produced by the smearing on by the fingers of a substance called "wojeh," composed of white clay and animal fat. An adornment is generally an accessory or ornament worn to enhance the beauty or status of the wearer. They are often worn to embellish, enhance, or distinguish the wearer, and to define cultural, social, or religious status within a specific community. When worn to show economic status, the items are often either rare or prohibitively expensive to others.

Results from a total of 477 polling stations were invalidated because there were more ballots than there were registered voters: 426 of these polling stations were in the pro-SLPP Southeast, while 45 were in the Northern Province and six were in the Western Area. Abdul Kader Kan was approximately fifty years old when he was inaugurated as the Almaami of Futa Toro. Before ascending to this position, Kan had been an independent qadi operating near Bundu who had been educated in Kajoor. He came from a line of Islamic scholars; his grandfather Lamin had performed the pilgrimage to Mecca, and his father Hamady studied the Qur'an in Futa Jallon. On 16 May 2016, Spence denied that his team turned down a fight against Brook, which had been previously insinuated by Eddie Hearn, Brook's promoter. In the province of Bas-Congo, the pro-government independent candidate, Simon Mbatshi, won 15 votes against the opposition MLC candidate, Fuka Unzola, who obtained 14 votes. In 1921 James Biggs, a photographer from Bristol who became blind after an accident and was uncomfortable with the amount of traffic around his home, painted his walking stick white to be more easily visible.

Bundu dia Kongo (Kikongo; literally "Gathering of Kongo"), known as BDK, is a new religious movement with a political and cultural agenda that is associated with the Kongo ethnic group. It was founded in June 1969 by Ne Muanda Nsemi, who is the group's current leader, and is mainly based in the Kongo Central (Bas-Congo) province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The movement supports Kongo nationalism and the creation of an ethnically-Kongo state that would encompass parts of the modern-day Democratic Republic of the Congo, Angola, Gabon and the Republic of the Congo.

It has been credited for pioneering a new style of Tsonga disco with its fusion of slow house rhythms, synthesised steel drums and Penny's modern vocal style atop traditional call-and-response female backing vocals. Released on cassette by Shandel Music, Shaka Bundu was a success in South Africa, selling over 250,000 copies in the country and being certified double platinum. Its success was surprising, given that its lyrics are in the obscure Xishangana variation of the Tsonga language. The album established Penny Penny as a pop star and also helped improve opinion on Xitsonga music among Tsonga people, as well as establishing Shirimani as a noted producer.

In addition to these skills, girls would often be given reproductive education, such as birth control techniques or child rearing skills. In particular to the Bundu schools, women would be given an intense education in medicinal herbs and home medicinal skills. These schools didn't just teach educational curriculum (such as history passed on through songs and dances), but enabled the transmission of cultural values and were centers of female power. Despite the colonial and post-colonial ideal that women ought to be educated just to serve decorative or child-bearing maternal roles, these institutions taught women to play central economic, corporate and familial roles in their communities.

These consisted of several ropes of cane cut into beads and of rows of seeds which had been bored and filled with Bundu (Sande) medicine." A fetish (derived from the French fétiche; which comes from the Portuguese feitiço; and this in turn from Latin facticius, "artificial" and facere, "to make") is an object believed to have supernatural powers, or in particular, a human-made object that has power over others.

On 14 February 2007, in reaction to increasing international criticism of the use of child soldiers, Numbi was among a group of senior officers who issued a notice to commanders of mixed brigades that they would be held responsible for the illegal presence of children in their units.Human Rights Watch (2007), p. 54 On 26 February 2008, Numbi met with Interior Minister Denis Kalume and President Joseph Kabila to discuss Bundu Dia Kongo (BDK), an unarmed religious movement that had been engaged in violent demonstrations for greater political independence in Bas Kongo. Two days later, 600 police officers armed with machine guns and grenades were deployed from Kinshasa to repress the group.

In 2006, Batshia returned to politics, competing in the gubernatorial race in Bas-Congo province as a member of Joseph Kabila's ruling party. Batshia was elected governor of Bas-Congo in January 2007 in an election marked by allegations of corruption and violent conflict between government armed forces and opposition activists of the Bundu Dia Kongo group. Human Rights Watch reported that, despite the opposition coalition led by Jean-Pierre Bemba successfully claiming a majority in the Bas-Congo provincial assembly, opposition candidates narrowly lost their contests when the provincial assembly voted to elect the governor and vice-governor. The conflict over the election and results took the lives of more than 100 civilians.

Throughout his life Chebeya denounced several governments and rulers, including the dictator Mobutu Sese Seko, his successor President Laurent-Désiré Kabila and the incumbent government at the time of his death. At the time of his death Chebeya had campaigned against King Albert II of Belgium taking part in the celebrations of DRC's 50th anniversary, had organized a protest about removal of Vital Kamerhee, had finalized a complaint against those responsible for the Bas-Congo Bundu dia Kongo massacre to be filed with the International Penal Court, was criticizing the government delays in setting up the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) and was investigating the death of Aimée Kabila, who claimed to be the president's sister.

Mustapha is remembered by the Catholics of Sabah for imposing to the letter the immigration laws by denying foreign priests who have not obtained permanent residency on the extension of their visas. All the priests who object to their expulsion for doing religious works among the Catholics were arrested by using his powers as the Chairman of the State Security Operation Committee and CM of Sabah State Government. Under his orders, on 2 December 1972, the police made a raid at the missions at Tambunan, Papar, Bundu Tuhan and Kuala Penyu. The raids at Tambunan and Papar were successful, timed early in the morning with the church bell ropes cut to prevent it from being used to warn the people.

In 1951 the Kenya government granted the union the plot of bundu (rough ground) adjacent to the Ngong Road. In April 2010, American DJ and ethno-musicologist Brian Shimkovitz posted the music from Shaka Bundu onto his blog Awesome Tapes from Africa (which specialised in posting music from rare African cassettes) with the description: "The tape contains simple yet deep synth-pop anthems that couldn’t give a fuck if you thought they sounded corny at first. It’s that kind of tape." Shimkovitz had only recently heard the cassette and became obsessed, enjoying it for standing out within Tsonga disco due to Penny's distinctive raspy vocals and joyous songs and Shirimani's unique, American club music-influenced production. He also played material from the album on his Awesome Tapes from Africa DJ sets around the United States, Europe, Canada and Australia, where audiences greeted it with what he described as overwhelming positive reaction.

Ayuba Suleiman Diallo (17011773), also known as Job Ben Solomon, was a prominent Muslim and slave who was transported to the Americas during the Atlantic slave trade. Born in Bundu, Senegal (West Africa), Ayuba's memoirs were published as one of the earliest slave narratives, that is, a first- person account of the slave trade, in Thomas Bluett's Some Memories of the Life of Job, the Son of the Solomon High Priest of Boonda in Africa; Who was enslaved about two Years in Maryland; and afterwards being brought to England, was set free, and sent to his native Land in the Year 1734. However, this version is not a first-person account. A first hand account of Ayuba's capture by Mandinkas and eventual return home can be found in Francis Moore's Travels into the Interior Parts of Africa.

However, not all slaves collected from present- day Senegal were actually from there: many of them hailed from other African places, having been taken and sold in Senegal ports by the kings and aristocracies of other parts of Africa, as a consequence of tribal clashes, greed, etc... Since these ports, they are purchased and exported to the Americas. While, most Africans sold into slavery in the Senegal region would have departed from that slave zones at the mouths of the Senegal River to the north, and from the Gambia River to the south, coming from several places, among which highlighted Futa Tooro and Bundu. The music on Shaka Bundu fuses the Tsonga disco (or Shangaan disco) style – which originated from the Tsonga culture in northern South Africa – with contemporary house music from the United States. The house influence reflects the popularity of English and American dance-club hits in South Africa, which proved to the country's musicians that a contemporary sound need not be achieved by sophisticated instruments, but instead with "plucky small studios and canny producers," thus bringing about a technological revolution in the music the country produced. Penny Penny cited Londonbeat's 1991 hit "I've Been Thinking About You" as an influence, while one writer also wrote of the possible influence from Soul II Soul, not just in the music but in Penny's hairstyle, which is reminiscent to that of Jazzie B. The album possesses a rough, yet sufficiently hooky feel, with Penny's "gruff" voice offering an unlikely accompaniment to the music. A Korg M1 synthesiser is used throughout the album.

As Vice Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior and Security, he has been responsible for the police and security services and for coordinating the work of the provincial governors since taking office on 20 December 2016.
