During the operation at the Kalas Mahal Heritage centre she was severely injured along with an Officer while one met his fatal end while attempting to rescue the victims. She was admitted at the Appollo Hospitals and Chief Minister J.Jayalalitha visited her at the hospital and assured the support of the Government in her speedy recovery to her kith and kin . In recognition of her brave deed she was awarded the Anna Medal for Bravery - the first of its kind to a Government employee .

The brave deed which merited even a higher distinction for Corporal Edwards, is worthy of mention. During the desperate fighting at Vimy Ridge on the memorable ninth of April, the advance of his company was held up by a well- handled machine-gun and its crew of six Germans. The gun and its crew were well sheltered in a large shell crater, protected in front by barbed wire entanglements. Five separate attempts to advance in front and capture the gun were made by parties of volunteers, two at a time, but they fell one by one.

But this stone weighing 4 ounces and the size of a hen's egg was a wonder how it came out with the help of one hand, without the proper tools, and then from the patient himself, whose greatest help was courage and impatience embedded in a truly impenetrable faith which caused a brave deed as none other. So was he no less than those whose deeds are related in the old scriptures.
