Anna King (4 April 1948 – 29 June 2003) was an author who had ten novels published between 1990 and 2003. Her first book, Life Is Just a Bowl of Cherries, was a semi-autobiographical work dealing with the central character Marie's lifelong struggle with Crohn's disease and its impact on herself and her family. Following novels were usually set in the East End of London during the Victorian era, such as Ruby Chadwick, A Handful Of Sovereigns, Frankie's Manor, A Palace of Tears, Fur Coat No Knickers, The Ragamuffins, Luck Be a Lady and Maybe This Time. She died of a stroke, aged fifty-five on 29 June 2003.

Spike is almost on his own against the forces of darkness, yet is arguably the cheeriest person seen in the books: he is jocular, easy-going and is rarely serious or distressed in his work. He loses his cool only rarely; and although he once, seemingly in a fit of depression, considered the possibility of self- sacrifice/suicide, admitting that "battling the undead was never a bowl of cherries," he was in fact trying to trick both Thursday and a Supreme Evil Being. In Something Rotten he offers to take Thursday's place in the afterworld when she is about to die, now knowing that his wife is an assassin, but Thursday persuades him to stay for the sake of their daughter Betty. Ultimately, his wife gives her life to save Thursday.

The American Composer Series is an ongoing performance series in the cabaret revue format, paying tribute to the greatest composers of popular American music on the American scene, particularly those composers associated with Tin Pan Alley. About the American Composer Series Launched by musical director Earl Wentz in 2000 with a tribute to Ray Henderson (composer of mega-hits “Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries,” “Bye Bye Blackbird,” “Button Up Your Overcoat,” “The Birth of the Blues” and others) titled It’s the Cherries, the series has continued to add new shows to its repertoire at the rate of one or two per year. As of 2009, the American Composer Series had created some 15 original revue tributes, many of them returning for multiple runs over the years.
