William Cunningham Blest (1800 – 3 February 1884) was an Anglo-Irish doctor, the president of the first Medical Society of Chile, creator of the first School of Medicine in Chile, a politician and father of the novelist Alberto Blest Gana. Martin Rivas is an 1862 novel by Alberto Blest Gana (1830-1920), and is widely acknowledged as the first Chilean novel. The social realist novel is at once a passionate love story and an optimistic representation of Chilean nationhood. Written shortly after a decade of civil conflict, this national epic is an indispensable source for understanding politics, morals, and manners of society in nineteenth-century Chile.
The group had an elaborate ritual based around its motto Talithi Cumi, Aramaic for "maid arise". The motto is taken from Mark 5:41, when Jesus speaks to a dead twelve- year-old girl. The ritual included prayers, a hymn ("Blest Be the Tie that Binds") and an altar and accented the group's three watchwords: constancy, honor, purity. The group also had its own burial service.

Rebeca Matte, born October 29, 1875 in Santiago, Chile, (In Spanish) was the only daughter of Rebecca Reyes and Augusto Matte, an ambassador for Chile. While living in Santiago, she was educated by her grandmother. Matte was exposed to many intellectuals of Chile at the time, including José Victorino Lastarria, Gabriel Jordan Amunátegui, and Alberto Blest Gana. Her father would move to Paris and Matte would be educated in Europe.

Fernando Vives Solar (1871–1935) was a Chilean Jesuit known as one of the foremost advocates of the Catholic social teachings in Chile. Vives influenced a generation of young men including Alberto Hurtado, Clotario Blest and future historian Jaime Eyzaguirre. His advocacy for social questions was not well received among the conservative elites who forced Vives to leave the country in 1918 for an exile in Spain until 1931 when he returned to Chile.
He was born in Skreen, County Sligo, and was a relative of the scholar Owen Connellan. He started a school of his own, but had more success when he became principal of a school established by Albert Blest, a Baptist, in Greenville, Coolaney, in the early 1800s. Like his relative Owen he left the Catholic church and embraced Protestantism. Among other works he produced an Irish-English dictionary and edited a series of song-books.

Guillermo Viviani Contreras was a Chilean Roman Catholic priest. In the 1920s Viviani ran two organizations; a study circle called El Surco whose objective was to fight for legislation that was favorably to the working class promoting in the way the formation of labour unions and "La casa del pueblo" which sought to advocate syndicalism and some Christian teachings. Clotario Blest was for a time member of both organizations. Viviani was a supporter of the Catholic political party Partido Popular.
The Clean Oceans Project (TCOP) promotes conversion of the plastic waste into valuable liquid fuels, including gasoline, diesel and kerosene, using plastic- to-fuel conversion technology developed by Blest Co. Gana was the older son of Federico Gana Munizaga y Rosario Gana Castro, and first cousin of the descendants of Albero Blest Gana, the preeminent Chilean novelist. He began his secondary education in the Linares lyceum in 1878, where he spent his first year, and completed the remainder at the National Institute. He obtained his law degree in the University of Chile in 1890, but practiced law only for a short period of time. He lived principally in Santiago and in San Bernardo.

In 1874 Chilean minister Guillermo Blest Gana and the Argentine Minister of Foreign Relations Carlos Tejedor agreed to put the question to arbitration. However, the new Argentine president Nicolás Avellaneda, boosted by internal popularity, cancelled the agreement in 1875. Attempts to clear up the dispute about Patagonia were unsuccessful until 1881, when Chile was fighting the War of the Pacific against both Bolivia and Peru. Chile had already defeated Bolivia's and Peru's regular armies and had large contingents in occupying Peru and fighting Andrés Avelino Cáceres' guerrillas.
Kirkus Reviews refers to Blest Gana as "a would-be Balzac" in a review of the English translation of Martin Rivas; the review stated that "extended contrasts between Martin and his loved ones, colleagues, and enemies pays mixed dividends in an overly earnest, infuriatingly discursive narrative that nevertheless does gradually create a convincingly detailed picture of a culture under siege and in flux." The novel was praised in the 19th century for accurately and realistically depicting social customs of distinct social and economic classes.
Parry's first major works appeared in 1880. Milton's ode At a solemn Musick was set for choir and orchestra as Blest Pair of Sirens by Hubert Parry (1848–1918), and Milton's poem On the Morning of Christ's Nativity was set as a large-scale choral work by Cyril Rootham (1875–1938). Norma Wendelburg used Milton's words for her choral work Song on May Morning. Milton also wrote the hymn Let us with a gladsome mind, a versification of Psalm 136. His 'L'Allegro' and 'Il Penseroso', with additional material, were magnificently set by Handel (1740).
The Committee carried out its pro-human rights activity in the face of harassment and intimidation by the government, and was a risky proposition for those involved. A year later, a couple dozen members of the committee, mostly women who were looking for their "disappeared" relatives, went on to form a new group focused on pressuring the government for information about their "disappeared" relatives. This was formalized into a new group, the Association of Families of the Detained-Disappeared by Clotario Blest the next year.

Abundant local color and social criticism accompany the action of the novel. Although these elements of description are not brought to life and fused with the plot in the manner of Balzac, the novel achieved great success as the first realistic portrayal of Chilean life. After its publication, Blest Gana entered the diplomatic service and was Chilean ambassador to France and Britain for many years. Other novels of this first period are The Arithmetic of Love () (1860) and El ideal de un calavera (The Rake's Ideal, 1863).
She was buried in the chancel of St Mary Magdalene Church, in Cobham, Kent, beside her husband, who had died the previous September. A magnificent tomb, with an effigy, was erected in 1561 and the Latin inscription was placed there by her eldest son, William, Baron Cobham. The English translation reads in part: "Here Anna lies, a lady chaste and fair, Blest with her children's love and husband's care. 'Twas in the last sad year of Mary's reign That first the husband, then the wife, was ta'en".
In te Domine speravi (Johann Rosenmüller) Johann Crüger set the German rhymed version, "In dich hab ich gehoffet, Herr", for four-part choir with optional instruments, published in 1649. Heinrich Schütz set the same hymn in the Becker Psalter, SWV 128, published in 1661. He set the complete psalm in Latin for solo voice and instruments, published in Symphoniae sacrae in 1629. Joseph Haydn set three verses from a rhymed paraphrase in English by James Merrick, "Blest be the name of Jacob's God", for three voices, which was first published in 1794 in Improved Psalmody.
Evensong was sung at Guildford Cathedral en route for Portsmouth. St Peter's Singers is committed to presentations at Leeds Minster and at the Venue, Leeds College of Music. Rare complete performances of Handel's Messiah, J S Bach's Christmas Oratorio and Advent Cantatas were performed in December 2008, 2009 & 2010\. The Good Friday Concert in 2011 at the Minster comprised music by Dvořák – the Stabat Mater and Parry Blest pair of sirens and, in 2012, a special performance of Messiah in commemoration of the late Watkins Shaw, whose edition of Handel's masterpiece was published in 1958.
Reverend George Seaver described Wilson as "a good field naturalist and blest with a quick and lively observation", saying that she, like her husband, had a particular affinity for birds. Wilson collected the holotype for the Australasian bent- wing bat, for which Oldfield Thomas named the species Miniopterus orianae. In 1914, Leiper and Atkinson named a cestode genus after her, Oriana, with the type species of the genus as Oriana wilsoni. However, Oriana was recognised as a synonym of Tetrabothrius, so the species was renamed as T. wilsoni.
Although musical Mass settings are not as widely used in most mainline Protestant denominations, a number of the more well-known songs have been added to the traditional hymn repertoire of these churches, and appear in many late-20th-century denominational hymnals. These include compositions such as Bernadette Farrell's "Christ be our Light", Dan Schutte's "Here I Am, Lord", John Foley's "One Bread, One Body", David Haas's "Blest Are They", and several of Haugen's pieces including "All Are Welcome", "Gather Us In", "Awake, Awake, and Greet the New Morn", and "Healer of Our Every Ill".
They had one daughter and Annie Kempthorne died in 1903 aged 31 years. In 1901 as the first Dunedin citizen to own a car he created a minor sensation when he was driven along Princes Street in his steam-operated two cylinder Locomobile with one of his company's engineers at the tiller. New Zealand, he concluded, was 'a land...in which man indeed is blest.' He became unwell at a board meeting of the National Insurance Company and died of a cerebral haemorrhage in Dunedin on 3 November 1915.
"The Island Hymn" was adopted as the provincial anthem of Prince Edward Island by the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island on May 7, 2010. The Provincial Anthem Act includes a French version of "The Island Hymn" called "L’hymne de l’Île". This French version was adapted by Raymond J. Wilderlands of the Magic Realm is a campaign setting that describes the locations on four large wilderness maps (Wilderness Maps 11-14), mostly covering a sea dotted with over 300 islands. The booklet describes and gives the location of many of the villages, castles, islands, ruins, relics, and monsters.
He identifies himself as Balthazar, a young male "doctor of the law", bearing a letter of recommendation to the Duke from the learned lawyer Bellario. The doctor is Portia in disguise, and the law clerk who accompanies her is Nerissa, also disguised as a man. As Balthazar, Portia in a famous speech repeatedly asks Shylock to show mercy, advising him that mercy "is twice blest: It blesseth him that gives and him that takes" (Act IV, Sc 1, Line 185). However, Shylock adamantly refuses any compensations and insists on the pound of flesh.
His later novels Emilia Reynals (1883), La dote de una joven (1884), Marianita (1881), and El ideal de una esposa (1887) were very well received by the reading public and were compared with the works of Alberto Blest Gana. Pages of his unpublished novel Jenio sin alas were published in La Revista Nueva in 1900. He was also an art critic, founding the Revista de Bellas Artes (1889–1890) and serving as secretary of the organizing committee of Chile's presentation at the 1889 Exposition Universelle in Paris. At this time he wrote the book Les beaux arts au Chili.
Members of the Conservative Party denounced what they saw as Hurtado's endorsement of the National Falange, a party founded after young social Catholics split from the conservative party. There were also attacks from the left. An anonymous article published in Policarpo in 1982 called Hurtado "the last prophet of the bourgeoisie" while it contrasts him unfavorably with the figure of Enrique Alvear who is hailed as the "first Pastor of the Church of the poor in Chile". Clotario Blest, who like Hurtado was also intellectually indebted to Fernando Vives, is reported to have distanced himself from Hurtado.
Its seven branches are named Blest (36 km²), Huemul (21.5 km²), de la Tristeza (18.5 km²), Campanario (7.9 km²), Machete, del Rincón and Última Esperanza. It is connected to other smaller lakes such as Gutiérrez, Moreno, Espejo and Correntoso. The deep-blue waters hold a number of islands, most notably Isla Victoria with an area of 31 km², and Isla Huemul. A curious fact about the lake is that, despite being nowhere near any ocean and being at high altitude, it is also home for kelp gull and the blue eyed cormorant (Phalacrocorax atriceps), otherwise strictly marine birds.

In the time of the Greek poet Hesiod, Elysium would also be known as the "Fortunate Isles", or the "Isles (or Islands) of the Blessed", located in the western ocean at the end of the earth. The Isles of the Blest would be reduced to a single island by the Theban poet Pindar, describing it as having shady parks, with residents indulging in athletic and musical pastimes. The ruler of Elysium varies from author to author: Pindar and Hesiod name Cronus as the ruler, while the poet Homer in the Odyssey describes fair-haired Rhadamanthus dwelling there.
A Public Admonition was drawn up, to be read out in every Parish, reminding their parishioners of the happy country in which they are blest to dwell, warning them about the evils of the French Revolutionaries, or of listening to the unlicensed teachers or attending unregulated Sunday schools. A Committee reported on a detailed examination of the law, which, it claimed, gave the Parish Minister the right to inspect all educational premises in his parish, including the Universities and private or voluntary establishments.Acts, pp. 865–875 At this time he had moved house within the New Town to 7 George Street.
He believed it was inevitable that local traditions would disappear and be replaced with European customs, and felt that opposition to these changes was old-fashioned and futile. In contrast, fellow writer Luis Orrego Luco observed the transformations with sadness and denounced the moral consequences of this process of change. The opposing views of Blest Gana and Orrego Luco are the most important representation of the realism movement in Chile. Other important writers of the generation were Daniel Barros Grez, Eduardo de la Barra,Eduardo De la Barra Lastarria Zorobabel Rodríguez, José Antonio Soffia, Moisés Vargas and Liborio Brieba.

In the first series, a bounty hunter, Matthew Macgregor, investigates a series of strange happenings in the Texas town of Blest, where drought has brought famine and hardship to most of the town and surrounding ranches. Additionally, the nights are haunted by werewolves. While Macgregor, a former Pinkerton detective, seeks to uncover the town's secrets, he tries desperately to keep secret his own past steeped in witchcraft and the supernatural. The second series finds werewolf-hunter Macgregor in Ragged Rock, Oklahoma, investigating a series of murders following a bizarre train robbery, and finds himself caught in a vendetta and confronting a technological monstrosity.

Olvik's unofficial remix of Halsey's "New Americana" earned special recognition from Billboard Magazine as one of "The 7 Best Halsey Remixes." This release and recognition led to a contract with Danish dance music label Disco:Wax, which is owned by major label Sony Music. He released several times through the label, the first a collaboration with Blest Jones, "Know You Better," and the second a four-track EP in the fall of 2018. According to an Insomniac biography, his music has been played at festivals including Tomorrowland, Ultra Music Festival, and Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas.
In their thirty years together Tucker later said he had found "the same warmth and devoted affection with which I have been previously blest." Tucker's primary philosophical interest was what he and his contemporaries called "mental philosophy," which involved the investigation of the principles and faculties of the human mind. He maintained that modern philosophers had acquired the discipline to free themselves from medieval "mysticism and folly," in the same manner that modern chemists cast aside alchemy. Tucker's effectiveness in the lecture hall is not objectively certain, and he may well have encountered difficulty with public speaking as he had in the courtroom previously.
Although gold was being found in the area from about 1840 the 'official' finding of gold was when it was found 3 kilometres west of the town in 1851 by Thomas Hiscock, the local Buninyong blacksmith, at an area still known as Hiscock's.Griffiths Peter M, Three Times Blest A History of Buninyong 1837 - 1901, Ballarat Historical Society pp13 Evidence is slowly emerging that the early pastoralists were finding gold, but not making their good fortune known because of the fear the Colonial Government would confiscate their finds because the whole area was Crown Land. By 1871 there were 2281 people and 20 hotels at Buninyong.
One of these odes, on the Duke of Gloucester's installation at Cambridge, had been printed in 1811 and forwarded in September by Dallas to Byron, who wrote: ;It is evidently the production of a man of taste and a poet, though I should not be willing to say it was fully equal to what might be expected from the author of Horæ Ionicæ. In reference to this poem Byron had previously written in ;English Bards:; :Blest is the man who dare approach the bower :Where dwelt the Muses in their natal hour … :Wright, 'twas thy happy lot at once to view :Those shores of Glory, and to sing them too.
Among other things, this obligation pledges the candidate not to "communicate or disclose or give any information--concerning anything--I may hereafter hear, see or experience in this lodge or in any other Lodge". At this point the lodge performs the 9 o'clock ceremony, and then the lodge chaplain or prelate explains the ten "thou shalts". Next, the governor grasps the hands of the candidates while the members sing Blest Be the Tie that Binds. Finally, the governor administers the second part of the obligation, the candidates promise to support Mooseheart and Moosehaven, help fellow Moose, settle disputes within the order, and not join any unauthorized Moose organizations.

In 1835, his father died, and Keble and his sister retired from Fairford to Coln. In the same year, he married Miss Clarke and the vicarage of Hursley, becoming vacant, was offered to him; he accepted. In 1836, he settled in Hursley and remained for the rest of his life as a parish priest at All Saints Church. In 1841, neighbour, Charlotte Mary Yonge, resident at Otterbourne House in the adjacent village of Otterbourne, where Keble was responsible for building a new church, compiled The Child's Christian Year: Hymns for every Sunday and Holy-Day to which Keble contributed four poems, including Bethlehem, above all cities blest.
According to some testimonies, he has been seen alive in the Villa Grimaldi detention center. After losing a large part of her family, González joined the Association of Relatives of the Disappeared Detainees (AFDD) and became one of its primary leaders alongside Sola Sierra, Viviana Díaz, and Clotario Blest. She participated in a hunger strike at the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean headquarters in Santiago. With Gabriela Bravo and Ulda Ortiz, González represented the AFDD at various international organizations such as United Nations, Organization of American States, International Red Cross, International Commission of Jurists, the Holy See, and Amnesty International.
The Official Journal replaced El Araucano, which had been the official government gazette from 1830 to 1876. It was created on the initiative of Interior Minister José Victorino Lastarria, who wanted a formal means of regulating the publication of official documents. The first director of the National Press was Ricardo Becerra. In his early years, he continued to publish editorial columns as in the Journals predecessor, but subsequently focused on official documents (laws, decrees, etc.) only. In 1880 Becerra was replaced by Guillermo Blest Gana, who was succeeded by Alcibiades Roldán (1884–1891), Carlos Emeterio Cerda (1891–1912) and Honorario Henriquez Perez (1912–1926).

Mean annual precipitation ranges from in the Andean peaks and in Puerto Blest to only in the Limay River area. In the urban areas, mean annual precipitation ranges from .
Among his most widely known hymns are "Blest Are They", "We Are Called", "Now We Remain", and "You Are Mine". In the 1980s and 1990s, Haas was a leading voice in the liturgical and musical aspects of the implementation of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), active as a team member for the North American Forum on the Catechumenate, and as a composer for the RCIA. Haas is also known for his early collaborations with Michael Joncas and Marty Haugen, and for many years the three of them were an important influence on liturgical music in the English-speaking world. They traveled together throughout the United States and beyond for many years, presenting concerts and workshops.
The main characters, Arianrhod Hyde, or Roddy, and Nichothodes Euthandor Timosus Benigedy Koryfoides, or Nick Mallory, come from alternate worlds (The World of Blest and Earth respectively) and the book is written from their point of view (each one writing alternate chapters). The Merlin Conspiracy is set in the same multiverse as the 1997 Jones novel Deep Secret, although the only characters in common are Nick and his father Ted Mallory. Ambrose, or Grundo, is the miserable, "backwards" son of Sybil, the evil enchantress. He grew up being best friends with Roddy since he was three, together he and Roddy discover the Merlin conspiracy and then spend some time separated from the king's progress.
This hymn was sung at the Prince of Wales's 2005 marriage to the Duchess of Cornwall. The third hymn was "Jerusalem", based on the poem by William Blake and set to music by Sir Charles Hubert Hastings Parry. Choral compositions featured in the service were Parry's Blest Pair of Sirens (a setting of an ode by John Milton) during the signing of the register, Paul Mealor's Ubi Caritas et Amor as the motet and a specially commissioned anthem, "This is the day which the Lord hath made" consisting of words chosen from the Psalms, by John Rutter. Fanfare ensemble leader Wing Commander Duncan Stubbs's own composition, Valiant and Brave, was performed as the royal couple signed the wedding registers.

Sir Charles Hubert Hastings Parry, 1st Baronet (1848–1918) was a leading English composer, teacher and historian of music. As a composer he is best known for the choral song "Jerusalem", the coronation anthem "I was glad", the choral and orchestral ode Blest Pair of Sirens, and the hymn tune "Repton", which sets the words "Dear Lord and Father of Mankind". His orchestral works include five symphonies and a set of Symphonic Variations. He was head of the Royal College of Music, and concurrently professor of music at the University of Oxford from 1900 to 1908. On the death of Hubert Parry in 1918, his half-brother Ernest Gambier-Parry (1853–1936) succeeded to the family estate at Highnam.
He described the "Mono Desert" as a "... country of wonderful contrasts. Hot deserts bounded by snow-laden mountains,—cinders and ashes scattered on glacier-polished pavements,—frost and fire working together in the making of beauty. In the lake are several volcanic islands, which show that the waters were once mingled with fire." Muir described the Mono Craters as "... heaps of loose ashes that have never been blest by either rain or snow ..." In the spring of 1881 and the fall of 1882, geologist Israel Russell studied the area as a side-trip during his field research of Lake Lahontan, a now dry lake that covered much of nearby Nevada during the last glacial period.
Advocates of human rights criticize governments and attempt to raise public awareness of government repression, torture, and denial of habeas corpus. These efforts were spurred on by the Medellin Conference of Catholic bishops in 1968, itself a response to Vatican II. The bishops urged the church to "favor the efforts of the people to create and develop their own grassroots organizations for the redress and consolidation of their rights." Human rights organizations in Latin America were unknown or existed only on paper before the 1960s. In Chile, the tiny Committee for the Defense of Human Rights led by labor leader Clotario Blest existed in 1972, a year before the coup but was inactive.
From that moment on, Dr Guillermo (William) Blest presided over any medical act in Chile, approving licences to practice, inspecting medical facilities and pharmacies. In his hands were left all responsibilities and authority with everything related with medicine; such power gained him many detractors, among them a Spaniard, Dr José Passaman. Dr Blest's constant speeches about the importance of studies in the fields of medicine put him at the head of Chilean physicians when he published his "Essay on the most common causes of illnesses suffered in Chile". He then was assigned to create and inaugurate the School of Medicine in 1833 in the National Institute, which operated from the Hospital of Saint John of God.

11 In 1883, Grove, as the first director of the new Royal College of Music, appointed him as the college's professor of composition and musical history. Mackenzie (front c.), Stanford (front r.), Edward German (back r.) and Dan Godfrey Parry's first major works appeared in 1880: a piano concerto, which Dannreuther premiered, and a choral setting of scenes from Shelley's Prometheus Unbound. The first performance of the latter has been held to mark the start of a "renaissance" in English music, but was regarded by many critics as too avant garde. Parry scored a greater contemporary success with the ode Blest Pair of Sirens (1887), commissioned by and dedicated to Charles Villiers Stanford, one of the first British musicians to recognise Parry's talent.

Gifford evokes both Christian and classical undertones, writing how "Pansies – still,/More blest than me, thus shall ye live/Your little day, – and when ye die,/Sweet flowers! The grateful muse/Shall give a verse". Smart proposes "Were it not for thee, oh sun,/Those pansies, that reclining from the bank/View through the immaculate, pellucid stream,/Their portraiture in the inverted Heaven,/Might as well change their triple boast, the white,/The purple, and the gold".
The Association of Families of the Detained-Disappeared (AFDD) is a Chilean human rights group that coalesced in Santiago in 1974 and was launched formally by Clotario Blest in 1975. It grew out of a group of members, mostly women, of the Committee of Cooperation for Peace in Chile. The main focus of the AFDD was to maintain awareness of the desaparecidos () in the public eye, and to pressure the government to release information about them. After the reestablishment of democracy in Chile and the 1989 election of President Patricio Aylwin, the goals and pressure brought to bear by the AFDD on the new, democractic government played an influential role in the establishment of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in 1990.

Joseph Mosenthal (30 November 1834 - 6 January 1896) was a German-American musician, born at Kassel. He studied under his father and Spohr and in 1853 went to America, where he played the organ in Calvary Church, New York City, from 1860 to 1887. He was conductor of the Mendelssohn Glee Club in New York City from 1867 to 1896, played a first violin in the Philharmonic Orchestra for 40 years, a second violin in the Mason and Thomas Quartet for 12, and composed much Church music, such as the psalm "The Earth is the Lord's", a setting of part of Psalm 145 (published in 1864see IMSLP - published as I Will Magnify Thee), and part songs for male voices, Thanatopsis, Blest Pair of Sirens, and Music of the Sea. He died in New York City.

Live from the Grieg Hall in Bergen, the band opened the national TV-show Gullruten on TV2 with "Beach House." The song became a national summer-hit in 2012 after being listed at over 12 radio channels (including the A-List of NRK P3), and through a series of concerts during the summer (including Hove Festival, Palmesusfestivalen, Slottsfjellfestivalen, Månefestivalen, Øya Festival, Blest 2012, Oslo Culture Night and Amnesty TV-Aksjonen, in addition to the Krokstrand festival, Uddevalla kalaset and the Snuss-Stock festival in Sweden). During the year the band also played loads of concerts in Norway including Chateau Neuf (Oslo), Blå (Oslo), Fugazi (Oslo), Parkteateret (Oslo), Rockefeller (Oslo), Dattera til Hagen (Oslo), Kvarteret (Bergen), Total (Tønsberg) and Samfundet (Trondheim).
