PAL 1992 OURS 1992Holt 1997 Holt International 1997 The reasons for its use: Some terms like birth parents, birth mother, birth father were chosen by those working in adoption reform as terms to replace 'natural' and it took nearly a decade before agencies, social workers, courts and laws embraced the change in self-referencing. Some adoptive parents supported this change as they felt using "natural" indicated they were "unnatural". In some cultures, adoptive families face an anti-adoption bias. This can be evident in English-speaking cultures when there is prominent use of negative or inaccurate language describing adoption.

There is an equestrian Titus Haterius Nepos, who was praefectus of Roman Egypt from the year 120 to 124, but he was clearly a different person from the senatorial Nepos. This was a priesthood which was only open to senators, not equites; only equites could be procurators of Egypt. From the name it is possible the procurator was the birth father of the senator, but their relationship is otherwise unknown.
Marc supports Amanda in her various personal issues, including her discovery Fey Sommers is her birth mother, the search for her birth father, and Amanda's capitalization on the 15 minutes of fame that being Fey's love child gives her. Tullius Callistio, that Publius Tullius Varro, consul in 127, was Tuscus' birth father. The "Lucius Dasumius" in his name refers to his adoptive father, whom Salomies believes was "certainly related" to Publius Dasumius Rusticus, eponymous consul of 119.Salomies, Adoptive and polyonymous nomenclature, pp. 98f The origins of he and his father are considered to be the Etruscan town of Tarquinia, which was assigned to the Stellatina tribe.
According to historian Frank McDonough, the most plausible theory is that Hiedler was actually the birth father. An explanation for Alois being sent to live on his uncle's farm as a child is that Hiedler and Maria were simply too poor to raise him, or could not raise him as well as his uncle, or perhaps Maria's health was in decline. Historian Werner Maser suggests that Alois's father was Johann Nepomuk, Georg's brother and Hitler's step-uncle, who raised Alois through adolescence, and later willed him a considerable portion of his life savings, but never admitted publicly to being his real father.

Along the way, Aiken demonstrates his facility as a storyteller, regaling the reader with tales both humorous and heart-breaking.

Critics claim this is just a required reinterpretation of the prophecy. In rabbinic thinking, the reestablishment of the Davidic kingdom was tied to the Messiah, who was to be a descendant of King David. He would redeem the Jews from exile and reestablish their independence in the land of Israel. Jews argue this is not fulfilled in Jesus. If he was adopted, they argue, based on a distinction between full-blooded Jews and half-blooded Jews in the scripture,(Numbers 1:18-44, 34:14; Leviticus 24:10) under Jewish law certain family and tribal affiliations must be through the birth father and cannot be claimed by adoption. Moreover, Jews argue that the Messiah must descend through David's son Solomon (2 Sam 7:12-16, Psalm 89:28-38, 1 Chronicles 17:11-14, 22:9-10, 28:6-7).
In the novels, Billy Bright is not married, has a crippled arm, is overtly racist (except in the presence of "Black Paul", a Chelsea hooligan of African descent), and is an orphan. By contrast, in the film he is married with children, has no physical deformity of his arm, is xenophobic but not explicitly racist, and is portrayed in a flashback as a young boy chasing recent immigrants out of his neighborhood with his father. The film never mentions whether Bright is adopted and it is neither mentioned nor implied that this is not his birth father. In both the novels and film Rod is portrayed as a close friend of Tommy Johnson, but rather than being "best mates" as in the film the novel portrays them as part of a close-knit group of four or five members of the firm.
His full name was Gnaeus Pinarius Aemilius Cicatricula Pompeius Longinus. From the elements in his polyonymous name, Olli Salomies suggests Longinus was adopted. Arthur Stein first suggested the identification of his birth father was the Pompeius Longinus, military tribune of the Praetorian guard in AD 69, mentioned by Tacitus;Tacitus, Histories 1.31.2 this identification was also proposed by Ronald Syme.Syme, "Pliny the Procurator", Harvard Studies in Classical Philology, 73 (1969), p. 230 Salomies concurs in this identification, while proposing that his adoptive parent was Gnaeus Pinarius Aemilius Cicatricula, governor of Africa in 80.Salomies, Adoptive and polyonymous nomenclature in the Roman Empire (Helsinski: Societas Scientiarum Fenica, 1992), p. 120 Syme also proposes that, based on his gentilicium, Longinus may have originated in Gallia Narbonensis, but Edward Dabrowa notes that the same criterion could be used to argue that Longinus came from Hispania.
Whether Emperor Cheng was formally adopting Prince Xin would quickly become a major controversy. When he created a cousin to be the new prince of Dingtao to serve as Prince Kang's heir in winter 8 BC, Prince Xin, grateful that his father would continue to be worshipped as an ancestor, submitted a formal note of thanksgiving—at which Emperor Cheng was highly offended, believing that Prince Xin should not be grateful any more for whatever is done for his birth father. Emperor Cheng's desire to have Prince Xin act as only his son extended to the arena of Prince Xin's relationship with his grandmother Consort Fu and his mother Consort Ding.
