The 57th Japan National Kendo Championship (November 3, 2009) All-Japan Tournament Karate The Nippon Budokan during the cherry blossom season Although it also functions as a venue for big musical events, its primary purpose is for Japanese martial arts. The national championships of the different branches of the martial arts (judo, kendo, karate, aikido, etc.) are held annually at the Budokan. The Budokan has also been associated with professional wrestling's big shows, typically from All Japan Pro Wrestling and Pro Wrestling Noah. However, due to declining business following the death of Mitsuharu Misawa and the retirement of Kenta Kobashi, professional wrestling has ceased running regular shows in the Budokan.

Early in 2002 Andy Strachan was introduced to alternate rockers, The Living End, upon the departure of their previous drummer Travis Demsey in February. While Strachan filled in on drums with the group – initially they played new material under the pseudonym The Longnecks – they continued auditions for a new drummer. Strachan later reflected that the early shows as The Longnecks "were more nerve-wracking than the big shows... There's always going to be guys in the crowd going, 'I can't wait to see him fuck up'. But I was very lucky in that Chris and Scott never treated me as 'that ring-in bloke'".

However, The Big Shows initial success did not last despite critical praise, as most of its potential listeners were increasingly becoming television viewers.

For the past months, Tanahashi and Nakamura had feuding for the IWGP Intercontinental Championship, main eventing three of NJPW's first four big shows of the year. At Wrestle Kingdom 8 in Tokyo Dome, Tanahashi captured the title from Nakamura and successfully defended it against him in a rematch at The New Beginning in Hiroshima, before losing it back to him at Invasion Attack 2014. The other tag team match featured Bullet Club's A.J. Styles and Karl Anderson taking on Chaos' Gedo and Kazuchika Okada. After signing with NJPW, Styles made his debut as the newest member of Bullet Club at Invasion Attack 2014 on April 6, attacking Okada and setting himself up as the next challenger for his IWGP Heavyweight Championship.

Pólvora made his professional wrestling debut in 2000, mainly teaming with his brother Vaquero on the Mexican independent circuit By 2005 both Pólvora and Vaquero began working for Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), mainly on the promotions minor shows or in the opening match of their big shows from Arena México. On June 22, 2008 Pólvora and Vaquero participated in a tournament for the vacant CMLL Arena Coliseo Tag Team Championship, but lost in the opening round to Mictlán and Fabian el Gitano. The two brothers teamed up with mixed success from 2005 until mid-2008 but by July, 2008 Vaquero had left CMLL, leaving Pólvora without a regular tag team partner. On April 7, 2009 Pólvora participated in a 10-man Torneo cibernetico for the vacant CMLL World Super Lightweight Championship.

WRXK-FM is a commercial radio station with studios located in Estero, Florida and licensed to Bonita Springs, Florida, broadcasting to the Fort Myers- Naples-Marco Island, Florida area on 96.1 MHz FM. WRXK-FM airs a rock format branded as "96 K-Rock" under Program Director Chris DeLozier. 96 K-Rock began in 1986, first airing Mainstream rock then eventually changed their music format to the Active rock format, which is presently aired and used, mixing New and Current Hard Rock and Metal Artists along with Classic Rock favorites and is now known for its high powered big shows and hard rock. It is now Southwest Florida's home for 20 year market vets Stan and Haney in the afternoon. 96 K-Rock also airs Miami Dolphins football.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter called the show "good", but "far from the caliber of most big shows in recent years", adding that it "felt empty" without A.J. Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura. He called the main event a "disappointment", writing "fans just weren't that into Okada's IWGP title defense against Hirooki Goto, who needed badly to step up and didn't". He gave the match three and a half stars out of five, while awarding the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship match four stars and the NEVER Openweight Championship match four and a half stars, the highest rating of the show. Overall, Meltzer stated that the show made NJPW look like a "once super-hot promotion past its peak in the midst of a slow decline".

In 2000 Escalante's brother made his professional wrestling debut, working under the name Polvóra ("Gunpowder"), which lead Vaquerito to leave the Mini-Estrellas division and work as simply "Vaquero" ("Cowboy"). The brothers mainly worked as a tag team on the Mexican independent circuito Vaquero also helped train his cousin (later known as Super Nova) for his professional wrestling career around 2002. By 2005 both Pólvora and Vaquero began working for Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), mainly on the promotions minor shows or in the opening match of their big shows from Arena México. In early 2008 Vaquero got involved in a storyline against Metal Blanco, that escalated until the two met in a Luchas de Apuesta match where Vaquero risked his hair and Metal Blanco risked his mask.

As the band began to play more shows, Friedl began sending out the band's demo tapes, hoping to spur some label interest. One of the band's first big shows was as an opening act for the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, a show that was arranged for them by a bookie at Maxwell's in New Jersey after having heard a copy of the band's "On the Go" demo which he had received from Friedl. For the show, the band flew to New York City, and while there the band received a fax from Crypt Records requesting a full-length album from the band and offering to set the band up with further tour dates in support of Crypt's stable of recording artists. With Crypt's support the band began touring overseas, though at home the band handled their own bookings.

The band played their first big shows at Stuyvesant HS (where Orbach, Lipman, Carse and Vercesi attended '77-'80) and auditioned at CBGBs in January 1980, eventually playing there over 20 times and setting the house attendance record in November 1982 upon the band's return from a self-financed, self-booked tour of Holland. After packing CBs and tiring of owner Hilly Crystal's curmudgeonly miserliness the band moved up to the larger Ritz on E.11th St. Soon after they were opening for such acts as UB40 (3 times), Thompson Twins, Terence Trent D'Arby and Bad Manners, to name a few. Packed headlining shows followed as the band's effervescent live shows garnered larger and larger crowds. Support slots at Pier 84 (with The Alarm) and Nassau Coliseum (with Duran Duran) cemented UB as the go-to band for promoters and club owners.

Upon his return in February 1999, Chono became angry with nWo Japan's direction and decided to break away from the faction and formed a new stable, Team 2000, to battle nWo Japan. For Team 2000, Chono was able to recruit nWo Sting and Michael Wallstreet as both of them followed Chono out of nWo Japan. Chono also brought back AKIRA to New Japan and added MMA legend Don Frye. Throughout the majority of 1999, Team 2000 was feuding with nWo Japan exchanging victories, and in the big shows, most of T2000 (Sting, Wallstreet, and AKIRA) were left off. T2000's first big moments occurred at Strong Style Symphony on April 10, 1999 where Chono fought to a double KO with fellow legend Atsushi Onita in an exploding barbwire match in the opener while Frye main evented with Mutoh for the IWGP Title but was defeated.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter wrote that King of Pro-Wrestling exemplified the "feeling of sameness" in NJPW and that while the show in his opinion had only one bad match (the six-man tag team match), it was lacking compared to similar big shows in recent years. Meltzer also noted that several wrestlers, most notably Hiroshi Tanahashi, Shinsuke Nakamura, Tomoaki Honma and Tomohiro Ishii had not recovered from the G1 Climax, while highlighting what he considered "elementary booking issues", such as booking back-to-back junior heavyweight title matches with all foreign wrestlers and the final two matches being "Americanized" with ref bumps and outside interference. Mike Johnson of Pro Wrestling Insider called the main event "excellent" and "well worth going out of your way to see". Sean Radican of Pro Wrestling Torch gave the event an overall score of 8.0, calling it a "very good show", though adding that the undercard tag team matches were "a bit of a chore to get through" and that "some of the big matches on the card didn't deliver as [he] expected".
