Using foraged clay, medium-density fiberboard and driftwood collected on the islands of Narragansett Bay, off Rhode Island, Mr. Harvey builds square towers, miniature biers and complicated arrangements of less identifiable shapes that are studded with thimble-size clay heads.

The Biers model used the documentary as a means to relay information that Sharon was alive to Cylons on Caprica ("Final Cut").

After the party he began to have severe chest pains, and he died the next afternoon, June 19 around 1 pm, of an apparent heart-attack. "Final Cut" is the eighth episode of the second season of the reimagined Battlestar Galactica television series. It aired originally on the Sci Fi Channel on September 9, 2005. In the episode, journalist D'Anna Biers tapes a report on life aboard Galactica and uncovers a plot against Colonel Saul Tigh. She discovers the pregnant Number Eight copy (Sharon) being held secretly aboard the ship, but Commander William Adama forbids her to include it in her final report.

She then records the crew during a successful defense against incoming Cylon Raiders and uncovers a disgruntled Palladino as the perpetrator of death threats and an assassination attempt on Tigh. Tabuik is a Shia Islamic occasion in Minangkabau region, particularly in the city of Pariaman and it is a part of the Shia days of remembrance among the local community. Tabuik refers to the towering funeral biers carried during the commemoration. The event has been performed every year since the Day of Ashura in 1831, when the practice was introduced to the region by the Shia sepoy troops from India who were stationed—and later settled—there during the British Raj. The practice of throwing a tabuik into the sea has taken place every year in Pariaman on the 10th of Muharram since 1831. The practice was introduced to the region by the Shi'ite Muslim sepoy troops from India who were stationed—and later settled—there during the British Raj.

The writers had been considering writing an episode focusing on a journalist aboard Galactica since the first season. Director Robert M. Young, who directed the first- season episode "Six Degrees of Separation", was brought back to direct "Final Cut" because of his experience as a documentarian. D'Anna Biers (played by Lucy Lawless) is the only Cylon not to appear in this episode, as her character had stayed on the original Cylon Earth at the end of "Sometimes a Great Notion." The Cylons, led by D'Anna Biers (Lucy Lawless), decide to take Laura Roslin (Mary McDonnell) and the Colonial soldiers aboard the Basestar hostage to bargain for the secretive "Final Five" Cylons currently on the Battlestar Galactica. Before the departure of Admiral William Adama (Edward James Olmos) from the Basestar, President Roslin secretly orders him to attack and destroy the Basestar, in the event that negotiations between the Cylons and Humans go poorly. D'Anna asks initially that the four can leave at their own will, but after Tory Foster (Rekha Sharma) joins them, D'Anna reneges and starts to order the execution of her hostages. Adama subsequently passes along Roslin's order to his son and acting President Lee Adama (Jamie Bamber), who reluctantly agrees.

According to showrunner Ronald D. Moore, the concept of Ellen and Saul Tigh's relationship being more than an average husband-and-wife relationship went back to the pilot mini-series for Battlestar Galactica but was not made part of the story arc for the two characters until the middle of Season 3. As writing progressed on the episode "Torn," the writing staff needed to explain why Baltar would not see all 12 Cylon models aboard the base star. Moore came up with the concept of five Cylon models that had yet to be revealed. Later, during writing sessions for the episode "Rapture," D'Anna Biers has a vision in which she confronts the Final Five Cylons in the opera house, and apologizes to one of them.
