After four years in Norway, Annan left Rosenborg to join Schalke 04 on 28 January 2011, signing a three-year contract. The move was reported to be worth €3.5 million. Upon joining the club, Annan was expected to be a replacement for Ivan Rakitić, who left Schalke 04 for Sevilla soon after. Despite this, Annan stated that he opened to make a return to Rosenberg in the near future. The long hours and stress of her job, with nightly calls to parents, and constant prodding of students, were affecting her marriage. Brill went on to write that charters, which he continued to support, were not practically scalable to be a replacement for the current public education system, and that broader improvements would require the efforts of current public school teachers and their unions.

The research programme was headed by Dipl. Dr. Engineer Teodor Zanfirescu of Romania and Colonel Vidoje Knezević of Yugoslavia. The aircraft was intended to be a replacement for both the lightly armed Soko J-21 Jastreb and the Republic F-84 Thunderjet that were then in the Yugoslav People's Army's (JNA) arsenal. A Gekko from Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is the new mecha featured in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. The Gekko is a mass-produced unmanned bipedal unit manufactured by ArmsTech Corp, and designated "Irving" by the U.S. Military; this stems from the American codename for the Nakajima J1N "Gekko" twin engine night fighter aircraft from WWII. Their frequent use by PMCs has caused it to be a replacement for tanks as a means of conducting armored warfare in urban areas. The Gekko have widespread use within the PMC community.

In June 2016 it was announced that Browne had been signed by FC Groningen, also of the Eredivisie, in part to be a replacement for the injured attacker Kasper Oldenburger in the reserve team. When training for the 2016–17 season commenced, Browne practiced with FC Groningen U23, formerly known as Jong FC Groningen prior to that season, which competed in the Derde Divisie. Engineered bamboo is a low cost product manufactured from bamboo. It is designed to be a replacement for wood or engineered wood, but is used only when high load bearing strength is not required because building standards for this type of use have not been agreed by regulatory bodies. Engineered bamboo comes in several different forms, including bamboo scrimber and laminated bamboo, which has three times the structural capacity as normal timber and is defined and regulated by the ASTM International Standards. ZPE Programming Environment (or simply ZPE) formally the Zenith Parsing Engine is a general-purpose compiler, parser and interpreter for the YASS language designed for educational use as well as for its general use. The language it interprets, YASS, is an interpreted, high-level, general-purpose programming language. It was started in 2015 as a planned university project but later was changed to be a replacement for another programming language developing at the time known as BlackRabbit Script, also built by Jamie Balfour. ZPE and YASS were designed to help with the automation of scripts by clearing up the inconsistent syntaxes of other scripting languages.

These energy cannons appear to be a replacement for the shoulder-mounted cannons on the bulkier form. Arguably its two most powerful weapons are the cannon that locks into place just above his head, also known as its Gunhead mode, and its hyper-focused chest beam, which killed Nemesis Prime in one hit. The Dolomite was the final addition to Triumph's small-car range (codenamed "Project Ajax"), which had started in 1965 with the Triumph 1300. Designed to be a replacement for the rear-wheel drive Triumph Herald, the 1300 was originally fitted with a engine and front-wheel drive. The later model, introduced in September 1970 as the Triumph 1500, featured a remodelled front and rear, styled by Michelotti, and a larger engine. Triumph were however dissatisfied with the market performance of the 1300; although it had been moderately successful, the higher price and greater complexity meant sales never reached the levels of the simpler and cheaper Herald which preceded it.

A networked music performance or network musical performance is a real-time interaction over a computer network that enables musicians in different locations to perform as if they were in the same room. These interactions can include performances, rehearsals, improvisation or jamming sessions, and situations for learning such as master classes. Participants may be connected by "high fidelity multichannel audio and video links" as well as MIDI data connections and specialized collaborative software tools. While not intended to be a replacement for traditional live stage performance, networked music performance supports musical interaction when co-presence is not possible and allows for novel forms of music expression.

The game features a total of 26 characters, 16 returning and 10 new, some of them former unique NPCs from previous game. Although Epona is absent in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, some questioned if The King of Red Lions, the boat used for transportation in that game, was intended to be a replacement for her. Southwick's 1882 and 1883 articles on how electrocution could be a replacement for hanging, using a restraint similar to a dental chair (an electric chair) caught the attention of New York State politicians who, following a series of botched hangings, were desperately seeking an alternative. Armin Ronacher started his work in Open Source as a freelance developer for the German Ubuntu Community portal "ubuntuusers" through which he later became a founding member of the German Ubuntu Association in 2005. In 1976, rolling stock manufacturers Waggonfabriken Linke-Hofmann-Busch – today Alstom Transport Germany – and Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm built eleven prototypes of a new low-floor local traffic carriage developed by the Bundesbahn-Zentralamt in Minden. This type was supposed to be a replacement for the n carriages, a type built in great numbers from 1958 onward, which had been considered as inadequately comfortable in the 1970s. Their difference toward the n carriages was their lower floor height with more comfortable entrances, interior design built to higher standards with a larger seat pitch, big improvements in the heating and ventilation systems and, constructionally, a lower overall weight. The interior design combined many elements of the DB diesel units 614 and 628.0 that had been built a few years earlier.

Windows Vista introduces a new Away Mode power management feature that allows a machine to conserve power while performing background tasks such as recording or streaming media or files across devices and systems; this functionality essentially allows a PC to operate in a manner similar to a consumer electronics device. When enabled, Away Mode turns off a PC's display, mutes its audio, and filters access to input devices while allowing it to remain otherwise operational for background tasks. While Away Mode provides power-saving benefits in that it disables features that are not necessary for a desired operation such as media streaming, Microsoft has emphasized that it was primarily developed for entertainment and media scenarios and that it is not intended to be a replacement for traditional power-saving modes.

In August 2012, Hazare announced that he was disbanding Team Anna, around the time that the divisions were coming to a head. In November 2012, after the split, he said that he was forming a new Team Anna, that it would retain the label of India Against Corruption and that its members were discussing other societal issues to be addressed. In 1878, Halifax, who had just won the inaugural Yorkshire Cup, bought a patch of land for £3,000 from a local farmer, Major Dyson, to develop as a new multi-purpose sports ground. Also during the season, the term Tar Heel Blue Steel was coined, referencing the Tar Heel men's basketball walk-ons. The term was started by one of the players, Stewart Cooper, in hopes that it would be a replacement for "walk-ons" and other less catchy names and soon enough Roy Williams caught on, as well as the rest of the Tar Heel Nation. Airbus has explored the possibility of a further stretch offering 45 more seats. A potential 4 m stretch would remain within the exit limit of four door pairs, and a modest MTOW increase from 308 t to 319 t would need only 3% more thrust, within the Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 capabilities, and would allow a range to compete with the Boeing 777-9 capabilities. This variant was to be a replacement for the Boeing 747-400, tentatively called the A350-8000, -2000 or -1100. Within the June 2016 Airbus Innovation Days, chief commercial officer John Leahy was concerned about the size of a 400-seat market besides the Boeing 747-8 and the 777-9 and chief executive Fabrice Brégier feared such an aircraft could cannibalise demand for the -1000.

LLVM was originally written to be a replacement for the existing code generator in the GCC stack, and many of the GCC front ends have been modified to work with it, resulting in the now-defunct llvm-gcc suite. The modifications generally involve a GIMPLE-to-LLVM IR step so that LLVM optimizers and codegen can be used instead of GCC's GIMPLE system. Apple has historically been an important user of llvm- gcc.. The Copa Revolutionaria is not to be mistaken for IWRG's recurring Guerra Revolucionaria ("The Revolutionary War") that IWRG held for the first time in 2009, becoming an annual show held by IWRG with the 2010 Guerra Revolucionaria. IWRG had already held their 2011 Guerra Revolucionaria, which meant that the Copa Revolucionaria was not intended to be a replacement for the normal Guerra Revolucionaria show. The Guerra Revolucionaria events all featured a similar type main event, a multi- man battle royal where each eliminated wrestler remains at ringside as a lumberjack with a leather strap they can use on anyone who leaves the ring. For the Copa Revolucionaria the type of match was changed into a 16-man Torneo Cibernetico ("Cyborg Tournament") elimination match, but eliminated wrestlers were still allowed to remain at ringside to act as Lumberjacks.

The Heart of America Sports Attractions, or "NWA Central States" version of the NWA North American Tag Team Championship was a secondary Tag team championship promoted by the Heart of America Sports Attraction promotion, a National Wrestling Alliance territory based out of Kansas City, Missouri and was defended in Missouri, Kanasas and the surrounding states. The Championship was active from 1963 until 1973, originally designed to be a replacement for the NWA Central States Tag Team Championship and after 10 years was replaced with the Central States version of the NWA World Tag Team Championship. Because the championship was a professional wrestling championship, it was not won or lost competitively but instead by the decision of the bookers of a wrestling promotion. The championship was awarded after the chosen team "won" a match to maintain the illusion that professional wrestling is a competitive sport.

Yak-42 seen from behind with rear airstair deployed Yakovlev Yak-42D of Lviv Airlines In 1972, the Yakovlev design bureau started work on a short- to medium-range airliner capable of carrying 100–120 passengers. It was intended to be a replacement for the Tupolev Tu-134 jet as well as the Ilyushin Il-18, Antonov An-24 and An-26 turboprop airliners. While the new airliner was required to operate out of relatively small airfields while maintaining good economy, as many Soviet airports had been upgraded to accommodate more advanced aircraft, it did not have to have the same ability to operate from grass strips as Yakovlev's smaller Yak-40. Initial design proposals included a straight-wing airliner powered by two Soloviev D-30 turbofans and resembling an enlarged Yak-40, but this was rejected as it was considered uncompetitive compared to Western airliners powered by high bypass ratio turbofans. Yakovlev settled on a design powered by three of the new Lotarev D-36 three-shaft high-bypass turbofans, which were to provide 63.90 kN (14,330 lbf) of thrust.
