Mitchell intends on using the money that Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) has received from a recently deceased distant relative, and Phil (Ty Burrell) starts to believe the money problems are what have caused the slight rift between himself and Jay. After Phil's present (a new, state-of-the-art barbecue grill) backfires, he, Claire, Mitchell and Cameron all begin arguing in the driveway about the various monetary issues that have surfaced that day. Luke (Nolan Gould) and Manny (Rico Rodriguez) come up with a plan to steal and drink a bottle of Gloria's (Sofia Vergara) tequila.

The 13th edition of the skills competition was held on the evening of Tuesday, January 19, 2010. The competition included seven individual competitions that tested the participants' hockey skills, each of which was sponsored. Sponsors for the event included ice hockey equipment maker Sher-Wood Hockey (both puck control relays), athletic apparel company Reebok (fastest skater and hardest shot), outdoor barbecue grill producer Bull Outdoor Products (rapid fire), game-worn jersey supplier MeiGray Group (accuracy shooting competition) and Southern California-based ice hockey rink company Ice Town (breakaway relay). The first competition of the night was the Sher-Wood Hockey Puck Control Relay which consisted of three players from each conference, was won by the National Conference team of Evan Barlow (Idaho), Chris d'Alvise (Stockton) and John Lammers (Alaska).

Colin Furze (born 14 October 1979) is a British YouTube personality, stuntman, inventor, and filmmaker, from Stamford, Lincolnshire, England. Furze left school to become a plumber, a trade which he pursued until joining the Sky1 programme Gadget Geeks. Furze has used his plumbing and engineering experience to build many unconventional contraptions, including a hoverbike, a wall of death, a jet-powered motorcycle made with pulsejet engines, and the world's fastest mobility scooter, pram, and dodgem. Certain projects he has undertaken have been funded by television and video game franchises for promotion, including a spring-loaded hidden blade and grappling hook from the Assassin's Creed franchise, an artificial-turf-covered BMW E30 containing a hot tub and barbecue grill, and a bunker underneath his back garden to promote Sky1's television series You, Me and the Apocalypse.

The first known documented usage of the phrase "Manny Being Manny" is attributed to then-Indians manager Mike Hargrove, quoted in a 1995 Newsday article. Ramirez also built a reputation, despite his quirky behavior, of being someone who was a tireless worker at his hitting.
