In around AD 206 he successfully interceded before the emperor on behalf of his nephew Pollienus Sebennus who was accused of acting improperly while governor of Noricum, and even mocked the incoming emperor Septimius Severus when Severus announced his self-adoption into the imperial family of Marcus Aurelius.

Pollienus Auspex was a member of the possibly Italian gens Pollieni, and the son of Pollienus Auspex. He reached the office of suffect consul sometime before AD 193, most likely around AD 185. However, from this point on, dates are obscure, and his career has been dated from anywhere from the reign of Commodus to that of Alexander Severus. His next appointment was probably as Iudex ex delegatione Caesarum or Vice Augg cognoscens (the judicial deputy of the emperor in Rome), which he held either before 192, or between 197 and 202, or around 218-9. Auspex also held a number of provincial commands around this time, appointed Legatus Augusti pro praetore of Hispania Tarraconensis (between 186-189, or 193-197, or 222-235), Dacia (between 190-192, or 193-197, or 222-235), Moesia Inferior (between 193-197, or 222-235) and Britannia (if held between 193-197) or Britannia Superior (if held around AD 230).

Alacritech was founded in 1997 by Larry Boucher, the author of the SCSI standard and founder of both Auspex Systems and Adaptec. The company's network interface cards (NICs) were promoted for enhanced performance by moving some TCP/IP processing from the CPU to the NIC. In 2004, Alacritech sued Microsoft and Broadcom for patent infringement. The suits were settled in 2005 with both companies agreeing to license the Alacritech patents.

Omens from observation of the flight of birds were considered with the utmost seriousness by Romans. The practice of ornithomancy by priests called augurs was a branch of Roman national religion from before the founding of the city, which had its own priestly college to supervise its practice. The word "inauguration" is derived from the Latin noun inauguratio derived from the verb inaugurare which was to "take omens from birds in flight." Since Roman augurs predominantly looked at birds for omens, they were also called auspex ("bird watcher", plural auspices), however they also interpreted thunder, lightning, the behavior of certain animals, and strange events.

Reaching the office of suffect consul sometime between AD 170 and 174, he was appointed Legatus Augusti pro praetore of Dalmatia between 173 and 175. He was next made Iudex ex delegatione Caesarum (or the judicial deputy of the emperor in Rome) between 176 and 180, when Marcus Aurelius and Commodus were on the Danube fighting the second of the Marcomannic Wars. Auspex’s next appointment was around AD 180 as praefectus alimentorum (viarum) Appiae et Flaminiae (or officer responsible for ensuring the grain supply and the upkeep of the Appian Way and the Via Flaminia).

Most benchmarks during this period demonstrated a 5:1 to 10:1 performance advantage over products from Microsoft, Banyan, and others. One noteworthy benchmark pitted NetWare 3.x running NFS services over TCP/IP (not NetWare's native IPX protocol) against a dedicated Auspex NFS server and an SCO Unix server running NFS service.

In April, Teva offered to acquire Mylan for $40 billion, only a fortnight after Mylan offered to buy Perrigo for $29 billion.
