Wanda Wilkomirska The Polish world renown virtuosos of classical music of all time include composers Karol Lipiński, Artur Rubinstein, Ignacy Paderewski, Mieczysław Horszowski, Grażyna Bacewicz, Wanda Wilkomirska and Krystian Zimerman. Jazz musician Krzysztof Komeda was known after WWII especially for his movie soundtracks, including movies directed by Roman Polański, but also for his 1966 album Astigmatic. Poland has one of the strongest and best- respected electronic dance music (EDM) scenes in Europe. One of the biggest record labels of EDM in Poland is Empire Records.

An autorefractor or retinoscopy may provide an objective estimate of the eye's refractive error and the use of Jackson cross cylinders in a phoropter or trial frame may be used to subjectively refine those measurements. An alternative technique with the phoropter requires the use of a "clock dial" or "sunburst" chart to determine the astigmatic axis and power. A keratometer may also be used to estimate astigmatism by finding the difference in power between the two primary meridians of the cornea. In 1968, Stańko formed a quintet whose members included Janusz Muniak - tenor and soprano saxes, flute, Zbigniew Seifert - alto sax and violin, Bronisław Suchanek - bass, Janusz Stefański - drums, percussion. To meet the extraordinary demand for Panavision projection lenses, Gottschalk had Bausch & Lomb CinemaScope lenses retrofitted into Panavision housings with a new astigmatic attachment, improving them greatly. This was revealed many years after Gottschalk's death; a lead designer from Bausch & Lomb, who had been involved with the original CinemaScope project, came to work as a designer for Panavision and—after opening some of the older lenses—figured out the secret. aspect ratios into its design—4:3 (TV, standard "Academy" ratio) on the inside, 1.85:1 (standard U.S. widescreen) in the middle, and 2.40:1 (modern 35mm anamorphic) on the outside. ISOPT 2001 RK may be performed with different types, numbers, and patterns of incisions. They can have 4, 8, 12, 16 or 32 incisions made in a number of patterns and orientations based on refractive errors, surgeon style and surgeon training. Between 1972 and 1988 he was signed as the chief artistic director at CBS Records, where he designed over 2000 album covers, mostly for classical music, but also for artists like Elton John, Roy Orbison, Santana, Janis Joplin, The Clash, Mott the Hoople, Judas Priest and John Williams. During his work in the UK, he also designed posters for English theaters. Upon his return to Poland in 1993 he started a photography workshop at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, and also became artistic director at the Czytelnik publishing house. An example of pixel shape affecting "resolution" or perceived sharpness: displaying more information in a smaller area using a higher resolution makes the image much clearer or "sharper". A follow-up study in 2013 on the European population, however, found no variant significantly associated with corneal astigmatism at the genome-wide level (single-nucleotide polymorphism rs7677751 at PDGFRA). Facing the inconsistency, a study by Shah and colleagues in 2018 included both populations with Asian and Northern European ancestry. They successfully replicated the previously identified genome-wide significant locus for corneal astigmatism near the PDGFRA gene, with a further success of identifying three novel candidate genes: CLDN7, ACP2, and TNFAIP8L3. Other GWAS studies also provided inconclusive results: Lopes and colleagues identified a susceptibility locus with lead single nucleotide polymorphism rs3771395 on chromosome 2p13.3 in the VAX2 gene (VAX2 plays an important role in the development of the dorsoventral axis of the eye); Li and associates, however, found no consistent or strong genetic signals for refractive astigmatism while suggesting a possibility of widespread genetic co-susceptibility for spherical and astigmatic refractive errors.

In 1970 he edited and published a book (2 volumes) compiling the available reprints on Refractive Keratoplasty which had appeared in the world literature since 1949. In 1980 he wrote and published his first book called Keratomileuisis and Keratophakia (1 volume) in which he describes all of his life's research to modify the corneal refraction, his findings, different approaches, mathematical and geometrical foundations, the surgical instruments that he created, results of the surgical techniques of Keratomileusis and Keratophakia in patients, and the complications encountered. In 1989 he published a second book Refractive Surgery of the Cornea (2 volumes) with the collaboration of Carmen Barraquer-Coll his daughter, and Alejandro Arciniegas- Castilla, revising his first book as well as describing the lamellar and incisional surgical techniques developed by other ophthalmologists to modify corneal refractive power: Radial and astigmatic keratotomies, epikeratophakia and the first steps on laser refractive procedures. Between 1977 and 1985 he organized and directed refractive surgery training courses at the Barraquer Institute of América in Bogotá, that were attended by over 100 ophthalmologists from all around the world.
