Having been snubbed, Eris creates a golden apple with the word kallisti (, to the prettiest one) inscribed in it. This, the Apple of Discord, is a notable symbol in Discordianism for its inclusion in the Holy Chao, and is traditionally described as being made of gold (although whether that gold was metallic or Acapulco is noted as uncertain).

By a sacred spring on the mountainside, in "the Judgment of Paris", the grown youth Paris awarded it to Aphrodite, who offered Helen for a bribe, earning the perpetual enmity of the discredited goddesses Hera and Athena to the Trojan cause (Bibliotheca 3.12.5).

The opera tells the story of the Judgement of Paris. The gods ask the Trojan prince Paris to decide which of the goddesses Venus, Juno and Pallas (Minerva) is the most beautiful and thus deserving of the Golden Apple of Discord. Paris gives the prize to Venus. The spurned goddesses try to get their revenge until Jupiter decides to end the confusion, turns to the audience and awards the golden apple to the Empress Margaret Theresa.

This move towards depicting the effects of love became explicit in Venus Verticordia ("Venus the turner of hearts"), painted by Rossetti in the mid-1860s. The title and subject come from John Lemprière's Bibliotheca Classica, and refers to a prayer to Venus to turn the hearts of Roman women away from debauchery and lust and back towards modesty and virtue. Surrounding Venus, roses represent love, honeysuckle represents lust, and the bird represents the shortness of human life. It has also been suggested that the youth is a depiction of Perseus holding the head of the slain Gorgon.

According to an alternative version, Heracles slew Ladon instead and stole the apples. There is another variation to the story where Heracles was the only person to steal the apples, other than Perseus, although Athena later returned the apples to their rightful place in the garden. They are considered by some to be the same "apples of joy" that tempted Atalanta, as opposed to the "apple of discord" used by Eris to start a beauty contest on Olympus (which caused "The Siege of Troy"). On Attic pottery, especially from the late fifth century, Heracles is depicted sitting in bliss in the Gardens of the Hesperides, attended by the maidens.

The block is so named due to the visual clash between the buildings; its Spanish name, Manzana de la Discordia, is also a pun on Eris's Apple of Discord – manzana means both "apple" and "city block". This square architecture was mainly the reason behind the controversial jersey design of Barcelona in 2019-20 season which ditched the traditional blaugrana stripes for the checkerboard blaugrana pattern.

Macedonian peasants (ca 1905) Slavic-speakers inhabiting the Ottoman-ruled region of Macedonia had settled in the area since the Slavic migrations during the Middle Ages and formed a distinct ethnolinguistic group. While Greek was spoken in the urban centers and in a coastal zone in the south of the region, Slav-speakers were abundant in its rural hinterland and were predominantly occupied in agriculture. Habitually known and identifying as "Bulgarian" on account of their language, they were considered "Rum", members of the community of Orthodox Christians according to the Ottoman millet system. After the emergence of rival national movements among Balkan Christians, the allegiance of Macedonian Slavs became the apple of discord for nationalists vying for dominion over the region of Macedonia.

The Eye in the Pyramid refers to the Eye of Providence, which in the novel represents particularly the Bavarian Illuminati, and makes a number of appearances (for example, as an altar and a tattoo). The Golden Apple refers to the Golden apple of discord, from the Greek myth of the Judgement of Paris. In the trilogy it is used as the symbol of the Legion of Dynamic Discord, a Discordian group; the golden apple makes a number of appearances, for example, on the cover, on a black flag, and as an emblem on a uniform. Leviathan refers to the Biblical sea monster Leviathan, which is a potential danger to Hagbard's submarine Leif Erickson (from the name of the Icelandic discoverer of America).

Enyo is mentioned in Book 5, and Zeus sends Strife to rouse the Achaeans in Book 11, of the same work. The most famous tale of Eris recounts her initiating the Trojan War by causing the Judgement of Paris. The goddesses Hera, Athena and Aphrodite had been invited along with the rest of Olympus to the forced wedding of Peleus and Thetis, who would become the parents of Achilles, but Eris had been snubbed because of her troublemaking inclinations. She entirely exonerates Paris and Priam, while all previous literary-dramatic tradition considered them as negative characters departed from the will of the gods. Main character receives a fundamentally new interpretation: in the famous scene with the "Three Graces" Paris gives "the apple of discord" to Venus without hesitation (in contrast to the mythical hero). He believes that would have to be afraid of condemnation of the gods, if he gave the apple to acquire power or wisdom, but not for love. Travel of Paris to Greece also gets a new interpretation. According to the myth, the Trojan prince is going for the liberation of Priam’s sister Hesiona but with the hope to get Helena in Sparta. Radziwill’s Paris completely forgets about the gift of Venus: ashamed of his ignorance, he goes on a long journey to civilized countries to get an education.

Painters who returned to the subject several times include in particular Hendrick van Balen, who was known above all for these subjects, and also Joachim Wtewael, Cornelis van Haarlem, Cornelis van Poelenburch, and Abraham Bloemaert.

Recurrent characters that are also featured include Irwin, Mindy, Pud'n, Eris, Jeff the Spider, Hoss Delgado, and Nergal Junior. The stories presented are varied, including Billy becoming the superhero the Green Squeaker, having the power of being green, squeaking when he moves, and shooting yogurt from his armpits; and Hoss Delgado, spectral exterminator and Odin, Thor, and other Norse gods, who battle against Billy in Valhalla; Eris and the Apple of Discord. Billy facing his phobia of clowns; Sperg; Billy stealing Mandy's "nerve", to become tough and mean; enchanted candies; the Tooth Fairy, who is an Old West cowboy; Mandy getting a new friend to replace Billy; Billy getting rid of his "Dinobonoid" action figures; and Irwin, whose mother is revealed to be a mummy. In the episode "Toys Will Be Toys", Pud'n's roar sounds like the T-Rex in the Jurassic Park movies.

The 7th edition of the festival took place from 24 to 28 July 2013 with daily projection held at the Banja Luka Youth Center and evening screenings being held at the well known fortress Kastel. 44 short film from around the world participated in the competition program, with hundreds more shown in the side programs such as: the selection of BAFTA films, Timishort, Zubroffka, a selection of student films from the Academy of Arts in Banja Luka and Friends program. During the primetime evening slots, 4 feature-length films were screened: The Act of Killing, Harry Dean Stanton: Partly Fiction, Hives and Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer. The festival program also included, for the second time, the Kratkofil Junior project, a charter project of Kratkofil, which includes screenings of children and teen films, as well as film-making workshops which resulted in a short film entitled The Apple of Discord, which premiered at the last day of Kratkofil.
