The colour coating has started to flake off this PY27/7W bulb, a relatively new problem The amber bulbs commonly used in turn signals with colourless lenses are no longer made with cadmium glass, since various regulations worldwide, including the European RoHS directive, banned cadmium because of its toxicity. Amber glass made without cadmium is relatively costly, so most amber bulbs are now made with clear glass dipped in an amber coating. Some of these coatings are not as durable as the bulb envelopes; with prolonged heat-cool cycles, the coating may flake off the bulb glass, or its colour may fade. This causes the turn signal to emit white light, rather than the required amber light.

In Russia, it is illegal to enter an intersection on a yellow signal, except for situations where motorists are unable to safely come to a stop. The changes made to AHBCs were additional information signage, telephones to signal boxes and the addition of a preliminary amber light to the pair of red lights at all crossings (plus a now defunct 'Another train coming' illuminated box; now just a piece of signage is needed). A warehouse converted to an interior scenes sound stage was located at the dead end of Kearny Street below Telegraph Hill, across from 1855 Kearny Street currently adjoined to 150 Chestnut Street, where it still stands today. In the series, the inspectors' unmarked Ford four-door sedan would respond to an emergency after placing a single-lamp revolving magnetic red light on the roof. This was contrary to authentic unmarked SFPD vehicles, which used a forward steady-burning red handheld spotlight (pursuant to California Vehicle Code section 25252), which hung by a hook to the top inside front windshield. The studio prop black-and-white marked SFPD radio cars were authentic-looking with one exception; in early episodes, the studio cars had twin two-lamp revolving roof-mounted red lights or two roof-mounted forward steady-burning red lights on opposite sides of the center four-lamp revolving red light, while authentic marked SFPD black-and-white radio car roof-mounted emergency lights had one forward steady-burning red light and one rear-facing flashing amber light on opposite sides of the center four-lamp revolving red light.
