Vasylkiv (also Vasyl'kiv) is an interceptor aircraft base since the Cold War in Kyiv Oblast, Ukraine located 7 km north of Vasylkiv. It is a medium-sized fighter base with numerous revetments. Units stationed at Vasylkiv include the 146th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment (146 Gv IAP) flying 41 MiG-25PD aircraft. The regiment arrived at the base in 1950. The regiment was subordinate to the 19th Air Defence Division, which was reorganised as the 49th Air Defence Corps in June 1989.

Marine Aircraft Group 23 returned to Hawaii from Guadalcanal on November 19, 1942. The group's personnel were split up into four cadres that were used to form the initial personnel for four additional Marine aircraft groups. One of these four new groups, Marine Aircraft Base Defense Group 43, was activated on January 1, 1943 at Marine Corps Air Station El Centro, California. For its first two years MABDG-43 was the headquarters that oversaw training at MCAS El Centro and also participated in the defense of the west coast.

Hoover remained in that assignment until June 1934, when he was appointed Chief of Staff, Commander Aircraft, Base Force under Rear Admiral Alfred W. Johnson. Captain Hoover was appointed commanding officer of aircraft carrier USS Langley in mid-June 1935 and commanded his ship during the patrolling, fleet exercises off the coast of Hawaii.
