The new runway is long and wide, which is capable of handling the Airbus A380. The new domestic terminal (T3) has 90 Check-in desks and 21 Self Check-in counters. It also adds 26 security lanes and 31 aerobridge gates.

The terminal, now, also has an eatery and a few retail stores, that were developed as part of the Airport Authority of India (AAI) scheme of master concessionaire. The terminal is connected with 2 aerobridges. A third aerobridge will be constructed by mid-October 2019.

In 2016 Malaysian federal budget (presented October 2015 ), Prime Minister announcement RM450 million for upgrading work under The Eleventh Malaysian Plan () (2016–2020). Works include a new multi-storey car park,additional aircraft stands (aerobridge),apron expansion, enlargement runway/taxiway and a new terminal. In October 2017, Malaysia Federal Government allocate RM 450 Million for upgrading the airport terminals.

The objectives of this project include new lounges and retail facilities, a new satellite terminal, increased luggage capacity and a redesign of customs and security areas. A new satellite terminal features floor-to-ceiling windows offers views of the North-South runway. The new concourse includes three double-decker aerobridges which are gates 16, 18 and 20, each accommodating an A380 aircraft or two smaller aircraft and one single aerobridge.

Terminal 1 hosts domestic and regional services for Qantas Group airlines, Qantas and QantasLink (which is located to the northern end of the building). Departures are located on the first floor, while arrivals are located on the ground floor. The terminal has 16 parking bays served by aerobridges; 12 are served by single aerobridges whilst four are served by double aerobridges. There are another five non-aerobridge gates, which are used by QantasLink.

New and old tower A minor upgrade had been done prior to the World Ocean Conference and Coral Triangle Initiative Summit on May 2009. It was done in the area of the apron, international boarding lounge, CIP room and car parking lot. The apron currently has an area of 71,992 m2 while the parking lot is available for 500 cars. Waiting lounge and gate for international departure and arrival are being expanded together with an additional aerobridge installation.

In September, the DGCA started the process for granting international status to Raja Bhoj airport. In November 2019, a joint central team composed of members of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Civil Aviation visited the airport to review the arrangements in starting immigration facilities, and did not find any major hurdles. Transit area of Terminal 3 The Butterfly Garden in Terminal 3 Shops line along the transit area in Terminal 3 Terminal 3, the airport's fourth passenger terminal, became operational on 9 January 2008, increasing the airport's annual passenger capacity by 22 million. The test flight out of Terminal 3 was a Singapore Airlines flight from Singapore to Perth. The flight departed T3 at 5:30 pm local time, landing in Perth International Airport at approximately 11:30 pm. The terminal has 28 aerobridge gates, with eight capable of handling the Airbus A380.

All works are slated for completion by September 2011\. In February 2013, AirAsia Berhad and Firefly Sdn Bhd signed an agreement with Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhad (MAHB) to make Sultan Ismail Petra Airport their secondary hubs. In July 2015, Malaysia Airports is planning for the expansion Sultan Ismail Petra Airport in Kelantan, which has already exceeded its 1.5 million capacity. The building will be expanded to cater to 4 million passengers with a new multi-storey car park and additional aircraft stands (aerobridge) to cope with the expected increase in traffic in the coming decade.

There are six taxiways, Alpha (connecting the main apron with RWY24), Bravo (connecting the main apron with RWY29), Charlie, Delta (parallel to the 06/24), Echo (connecting the main apron with RWY24), Golf (which links Delta to RWY06 threshold) and Hotel (between Golf and RWY11/29) . The airport aprons can accommodate light to large aircraft (12 aerobridge and 9 remote) simultaneously and is designed to accommodate Wide-body jet airliners as large as the Boeing 747-400. YQB doesn't have a Visual Docking Guidance System (VDGS) or Parallax Aircraft Parking Aid (PAPA), all stands are assisted by Ground Operations using marshalling wands–handheld illuminated beacons.

Taoyuan International Airport Services (Abbreviation: TIAS; Chinese: 桃園國際機場地勤服務公司, commonly abbreviated 桃園航勤), founded in 1979, is currently the largest ground handling provider at Taoyuan International Airport, providing services for 30 scheduled airlines, out of 38 that served in Taoyuan International Airport. It is a subsidiary of China Airlines Group. TIAS provides ground handling services, which includes baggage handling, aircraft load control, aerobridge and passenger steps operation, loading and unloading of aircraft, and cargo and mail delivery, to airline customers. TIAS also provides passenger and flight handling services, which includes passenger check-in, ticketing, flight dispatch, and cargo documentation.

SuperTerminal 1 Asia Airfreight Terminal DHL Central Asia Hub Ramp handling services are provided by Hong Kong Airport Services Limited (HAS), Jardine Air Terminal Services Limited and SATS HK Limited. Their services include the handling of mail and passenger baggage, transportation of cargo, aerobridge operations and the operation of passenger stairways. The airport has an advanced baggage handling system (BHS), the main section of which is located in the basement level of the passenger terminal, and a separate remote transfer facility at the western end of the main concourse for the handling of tight connection transfer bags. HKIA handles over five million tonnes of cargo annually.

Haluoleo service has experienced some service improvement, especially in the presence of 3 aerobridge facilities that facilitate passengers entering the terminal region of departure and arrival airports and heading to and from the aircraft. The airport's apron is now also undergoing expansion and can accommodate eight wide-body aircraft in its class such as the Boeing 737-900ER and Airbus A320. Currently, Haluoleo service is being pursued as a transit airport for flights in eastern Indonesia, in addition to Hasanuddin Airport Makassar which is currently already has a congested capacity. It is hoped that in the future, with transit in the airport, aircraft operating costs can be reduced because it can save fuel.

The old terminal is planned to be demolished to build more spaces for the apron and more aircraft capacity. Even though the new terminal has been fully used, the aerobridges that were constructed have never been utilized as the apron expansion has not been completed yet after two years since the opening of the new terminal to the public in 2012. Thus, the airport company PT Angkasa Pura II is currently ferrying passengers to and from the terminal using shuttle buses until the aerobridge can be used. Pekanbaru's airport is also utilized separately as the airbase of the TNI-AU (Indonesian Air Force) and home base of the 12th Squadron, a shelter to some Hawk Mk.109s and Mk.209s.

The jetway was invented by Frank Der Yuen. Similar devices are used for astronauts to enter spacecraft, which are installed in the appropriate height of the launch tower.
