Visitacion Valley takes its name from Rancho Cañada de Guadalupe la Visitación y Rodeo Viejo, a large tract of land that also included the Bayshore district of Daly City, the city of Brisbane, and San Bruno Mountain. The term "Visitacion" is Spanish and a reference to the Visitation in Luke 1:39 of the Bible. It is a visit by Mary, bearing the child Jesus, to her cousin Elizabeth, who despite her advanced years is pregnant with John the Baptist. John leapt in the womb as Mary entered, knowing that he is in presence of the Savior.

Though no specific year is given for the play's action, allusions to Xanax, Sylvester Stallone, and the phrase "get your rocks off" set it in the mid-1980s (the time of the play's writing) at the earliest. Yet Trevor and Bartie are described as being in their 70s, and Dora— though only characterized as being "of advanced years"—is clearly intended to be their contemporary. This would not only put them in their teens at the time of the real-life Detection Club’s founding, but make them at least twenty years the junior of the youngest of its actual founding members, Anthony Berkeley (b. 1893). Even precocity, one presumes, has its limits.

On 12 May 1904, Sidney Hill purchased at auction a plot of pasture and arable land in Churchill called The Vicarage Close for £500. The plot contained that consisted of three lots numbered 166, 168, and 169 on the Churchill tithe map..Hill's intention was to build furnished cottage homes (or almshouses) at Vicarage Close for people of advanced years, in difficult circumstances, and without near relatives. This would be Hill's second set of cottage homes after he built and furnished six dwellings known as the Victoria Jubilee Homes at Langford in commemoration of the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria.

OldDog Haven does not have a shelter. All of the dogs in its care live happily in homes with foster families who love and cherish them as valued family members. The organization has seen that many dogs of advanced years are rejected by owners, or are left behind when an elderly owner must move to an independent or assisted living facility or a nursing home: these animals are often left at animal shelters—where their chance of adoption is negligible—or pass to family or friends who are not prepared to deal with the needs of an older dog. As a result, many of these animals are in poor physical condition, making them even less adoptable.

15-year-old Neil Miller is orphaned following a car accident and goes to live with his grandparents in Winchelsea, England. Neil suffers post traumatic stress from the car accident and stays detached from his peers despite their occasional attempts to involve him. News travels of a new disease, called the Calcutta Plague due to its origin, which accelerates the aging process in human beings. The plague appears to be uniformly fatal, and although initially only affects those of already advanced years (claiming an old teacher at his school and both his grandparents), it quickly progresses until it takes the life of a 2-year-old girl (Susie) who Neil finds and attempts to look after.

Lord Emsworth's pig man in Full Moon, Mr Pott is an elderly, gnome-like man with a strong odour and no roof to his mouth. He is at one point required to remove his charge Empress of Blandings from the bedroom of Veronica Wedge, where she has done sterling work bringing Miss Wedge together with Tipton Plimsoll, and is later bribed by Gally to keep quiet about it. He is also involved in capturing Bill Lister after he is mistaken for a burglar; Pott is able to hold Lister captive, despite Lister's size, thanks mostly to the unintelligible nature of his speech, and his advanced years. He leaves Emsworth's service after winning a considerable sum of money on the football pools, to be replaced by Monica Simmons.

The reasons for this act are unclear, with different reasons being given by contemporary authors. According to John Kinnamos he publicly announced some kind of prophecy according to which Manuel would die soon, and that "the Roman senate should no longer grant power to a strapping young man, but to a man of properly advanced years, in order that under him, ruling by the letter [or by learning] the affairs of state might be managed as in a democracy". The German chronicler Rahewin, on the other hand, reports that the kanikleios had hired three men to assassinate Manuel, but that the empress discovered the plot and informed the emperor.

Verses 10.19–23 advise that those who seek liberation in life or after death, should do yoga and reach the stage of Samadhi wherein one fixes one's mind on the supreme self. This is recommended for those in their advanced years and seekers of inner liberation and peace.

Hugh J. Schonfield, in the controversial The Passover Plot (1965) and other works, saw evidence that the source of this Gospel was the Beloved Disciple of the Last Supper and further that this person, perhaps named John, was a senior Temple priest and so probably a member of the Sanhedrin. This would account for the knowledge of and access to the Temple which would not have been available to rough fishermen and followers of a disruptive rural preacher from the Galilee, one who was being accused of heresy besides. And probably for the evanescent presence of the Beloved Disciple in the events of Jesus' Ministry. On this reading, the Gospel was written, perhaps by a student and follower of this Disciple in his last advanced years, perhaps at Patmos.

Liam became a leader in London's Irish community and was elected to the council of the Metropolitan Borough of Camberwell in the North Pechkam ward. Despite his advanced years he joined the London branch of the Irish Volunteers along with his sons; he also was allegedly a member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood. In 1915, Britain introduced conscription; a crisis meeting of the London branch of the Irish volunteers was held at his home in east Dulwich to discuss the issue. As a councillor Liam could not publicly advise men to avoid conscription but in response to question from Michael Collins he said, "If you come from Clonakilty it is obvious where you must go" - in other words advising them to return to Ireland where conscription was not in force.

He commanded the Bolivian 5th Division in a number of catastrophic battles, among the last skirmishes fought by Bolivia before withdrawing to the highlands behind the Andes in early 1880. Campero's patriotism, commitment, and willingness to sacrifice despite his advanced years were nonetheless noted, and the emergency Congress of Notables convened in La Paz in December of that fateful year resolved to tap him for the difficult post of Constitutional President following Hilarión Daza's overthrow. It was thus that the 66-year-old General Campero took control of his country's fate in early 1880 at the most critical juncture in its history, it having essentially lost the War of the Pacific, surrendered its entire access to the Pacific to Chile, and abandoned its ally Peru to fight the rest of the war alone. His Congress-designated vice-president was the Conservative leader Aniceto Arce.

Due to his sound training and values inculcated in Scouting, Chan led a healthy lifestyle and lived strictly by the ethics of the Scout movement. Even at his advanced years in the 1990s, Chan participated in New Nation Walk and later the New Paper Walk well into his nineties wearing his Scout uniform and badges on every occasions. Chan attended the school's centenary celebrations at Shangri-La Hotel in 1985 and was honoured by the Singapore Scouts Association in 2000 - he was the only person to have attended the very first and last Scouts' Jamboree in the 20th century before dying at the age of 94 in Singapore. With the economical downturn in the early 1930s, the survival of the school was at stake when community funding dwindled and the school building had reached such a deteriorated state that major repairs were urgently needed.
