The first sexually-explicit film shown at the Oregon was I Am Curious (Yellow) in 1967. That movie gave the theater more business in three days than two- weeks worth of ticket sales from mainstream, non-risque films, prompting the Oregon to show adult movies exclusively. Candida Royalle in 2011 In 1984, past adult performer (and Club 90 member) Candida Royalle (1950–2015) established Femme Productions to construct films from a woman's perspective. Even though Royalle did not brand or advertise her films as feminist, she identifies as a feminist, her aspirations surely can be viewed as feminist, and she is often considered to be one of the pioneers of feminist porn. She is also viewed as a founder of the genres of porn for women and couple's porn. Royalle started Femme Productions in 1984 with the aim to give adult movies a woman's voice and provide couples with video entertainment which they would be able to view together.

Royalle explains that it was her way of retaliating against society's hostility towards the adult industry and the indifference of clients purchasing and renting adult movies, but not fighting for their rights to do so. In 1995, Royalle became determined to fully return to production and signed on with Adam & Eve to fund and produce more Femme productions. My Surrender, released in 1996, won AVN's Best Actress award for Jeanna Fine. Performers included Gypsy Rose Lee and Tempest Storm, and before the Folly closed in January 1974, Chesty Gabor. The theater began showing "adult" movies in 1969, apparently prompting an unknown person to plant a dynamite stick in a drainpipe on December 29, 1969. In 1974 the theater's then owners, Annbar Associates and Elk Realty of New York announced that if a new buyer could not be identified by the end of the year, the theater would be demolished to make way for a parking lot. Created by UK soundtrack composer, Matthew Strachan (also creator of the soundtrack of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire), the character's life story is told through music, images and an extensive series of spoof biographical entries on a multimedia website. While the site itself contains no explicit content, the composer's life and works are presented by alluding to a fictional movie world complete with filmography, discography, and numerous peripheral characters, including a biographer and musicologist. Following the launch of the website on 2007, both the character and the music have received mentions in popular blogs such as Boing Boing,Klaus Harmony post at boingboing.

In 2009, Vivid released her only movie performing with other male actors titled "Sunny B/G Adventure". Her final release under contract with Vivid – "Undress Me", once again made her exclusive to performing with just one male actor, Daniel Weber (he was performed under the stage name Ariel King), who subsequently became her husband. Leone at Exxxotica 2009 Miami In August 2009, she announced the launch of her own studio, Sunlust Pictures, with Daniel Weber as her partner. With her new venture Leone announced her plans to write, direct and create her own brand of adult movies with Vivid Entertainment as her distributor.
