The detachment crossed the Barents Sea, the Norwegian Sea, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Pacific Ocean via the Drake Passage which, according to Academian A.M. Chepurov, was the most dangerous phase of the voyage. Concerns included icebergs and collisions with whales. The ships' personnel participated in line-crossing ceremonies when the detachment crossed the Equator. They also celebrated the landing of the Soviet space probe Venera 3 on the surface of the planet Venus.

Cumming lectured at the Edinburgh College of Art between 1950 and 1982, teaching both in the Humanities and the Painting school. Students of this time included Sandy Moffat, John Bellany and latterly Richard Wright who won the Turner Prize in 2009. Cumming is remembered with great affection for his gentlemanly encouragement, sparkling wit and the range of his intellect. He was elected Academian of the Royal Scottish Academy in 1970 and acted as its Secretary between 1978 and 1980.

The Academy's campus newspaper, the Shady Side News, is written and produced by an editorial staff of Senior School students and releases five issues each academic year. It contains campus news, commentary, political opinion, and photographs. The Academian, the Shady Side Academy yearbook, has been published annually since the time of the school's founding by a committee of student editors. The Egerian, the school's literary magazine, publishes student-written prose and poetry at the end of each academic year.

In October 2009, Duan became the dean of Zhejiang University School of Medicine at the invitation of CAE academian Ba Denian. Ba and Duan met at a conference held at Zhejiang University in April that year. At first Duan was hesitated, but Ba said to him: "You can even elucidate what happened in a mouse's head, the administration work is easy for you", so Duan finally agreed. In 2010, an innovation group of neuropsychical diseases translational medicine was formed under Duan's direction.

Lydia Amanda Brewster Sewell (February 24, 1859 - November 15, 1926) was a 19th-century American painter of portraits and genre scenes. Lydia Amanda Brewster studied art in the United States and in Paris before marrying her husband, fellow artist Robert Van Vorst Sewell. She won a bronze medal for her mural Arcadia at The World's Columbian Exposition in 1893. She continued to win medals at expositions and was the first woman to win a major prize at the National Academy of Design, where she was made an Associate Academian in 1903.

Murat Abenovich Aitkhozhin (, Russian: Мурaт Абенович Айтхoжин) (29 June 1939 - 19 December 1987) was a Kazakh Soviet molecular biologist: the founder of molecular biology in Kazakhstan. He was the President of the Kazakhstan Academy of Sciences (1986–87), Deputy of The Supreme Soviet of the USSR, member (and Chairman of the Kazakh branch) of the Soviet Peace Fund. He was the founder and first Director of the Kazakh Institute of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry as well as being an Academian of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR (1983), Doctor of Sciences (1977), Professor (1980) and Lenin Prize laureate (1976).

In 1978, he became the director of the Institute of Botany of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR, and was elected as a Corresponding Member of the Academy the following year (1979). In 1983, he founded the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR. and was elected to the position of Academian of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR. The international recognition of the successes of molecular biology in Kazakhstan was the holding in 1984 of the international symposium "Prospects for bioorganic chemistry and molecular biology" at the Institute.

Ultimately the only member of the Barnes School to receive formal recognition was Henry Boddington with his 1842 election to the Society of British Artists (RBA). It would appear that none of the Williams family were ever considered for membership in the Royal Academy (RA), the most prestigious recognition of them all. In fact, of the most popular landscape artists of the Victorian era only Benjamin Williams Leader (1831–1923) was elected an academian to the Royal Academy. Ironically, Leader had been born Williams, but changed his surname to avoid being confused as a son of Edward Williams, to whom he was unrelated.

Born in Paris, he studied under Jean II Restout. Although he never became a full academian, on July 27, 1765 he was made a provisional member of the Académie Royale, where he won first prize for the painting, Nabucliodonosor faisant crever les yeux à Sédicias et faisant massacrer ses enfants. His works in the mid 1760s and 1770s included portraits and religious and mythical scenes. He became "one of the best vignettists of his time" and well-known for his work as an illustrator, notably for an edition of Fables de La Fontaine published by Fessard.

In the arts, Phi Psis have received Academy Awards, Emmys, Golden Globes, Grammys, and Tony Awards. Journalist Sy Hersh has won the Pulitzer Prize, Orwell Award and George Polk Award.

Sorø Academy (Danish, Sorø Akademi) is a boarding school and gymnasium located in the small town of Sorø, Denmark. It traces its history back to the 12th century when Bishop Absalon founded a monastery at the site, which was confiscated by the Crown after the Reformation, and ever since, on and off, it has served as an educational institution, in a variety of forms, including as a knight academy founded by Christian IV and a venue for higher learning during the Danish Golden Age. Danish writer and academian Ludvig Holberg bequested most of his fortune to re-establishing the academy in 1750 after a devastating fire.

During Goodson's time in Vienna Arthur Hinton, a fellow Royal Academian and London friend (with whom she had played in the Academy Orchestra), was studying in the city under Karl Navratil and the two spent much of their time together. Later Hinton went to Munich to study composition with Josef Rheinberger. When they both returned to London, Hinton became a regular visitor of the Conways, with whom Goodson lived as she sought to establish her career. The two married in 1903. She said of him: “I think Arthur Hinton must have mesmerized me into marrying him, for I had decided never, never to marry; everybody thought my career might be spoilt should I do so, but somehow or other our minds and hearts seemed to have been drawing ever nearer.
