Moses Kellow, who was born on 5 June 1862 at Delabole, Cornwall, close to one of the largest slate quarries in Britain. His parents moved to Caernarfon some three years later, and besides his school education, his father trained him in engineering and geology. By the age of 20, around 1882, he was managing Parc. Slate in the Blaenau Ffestiniog region is generally found in veins which slope downwards at an acute angle from the horizontal, resulting in the quarries being underground once the initial surface rock has been removed.

Brahmapuri is situated at the foot of the majestic Mehrangarh Fort. It is a settlement of Shrimali Brahmins, a caste in the Hindu system and is distinguished by its electric and azure blue colored walls, due to which Jodhpur is sometimes called the "Blue City" of India. Brahmapuri is characterized by its organic street pattern, where primary lane bifurcates into a complex skein of sub-lanes. The main street however run North-South and slope downwards steeply and end at the twin-lakes namely the Roop Sagar and Padam Sagar at the foot of the fort.

Pant Mawr was the first of the two quarries to be established, around 1850. It was situated on the western slopes of Moelwyn Mawr, and was working the same slate vein as the Moelwyn quarry, which was situated on the south eastern slopes of the same mountain. Slate quarries in the Ffestiniog region, where the slate veins slope downwards at an angle, are worked as pillars and chambers, where two chambers on the same horizontal level are separated by a pillar of unquarried rock, of a similar thickness to the width of the chamber, in order to support the rock above. In order to maintain the stability of the quarry, chambers below that level are precisely aligned, so that the pillars on one floor are directly below those on the floor above.

To the west of the gardens is a fish pond which is also a duck pond with a duck island, many species of water birds can be found there, notably Mallard ducks, Canada geese and frequently a pair of resident mute swan. By the corner where Chester Road meets Eachelhurst Road is the area where the annual bonfire and Funfair are held on 5 November, fairs are also held there at other times of the year. To the north of the section above is mown grass with young trees planted in groups and mature trees, later the land starts to slope downwards to a valley where Plants Brook flows, the brook was culverted during the 1960s due to flooding. Many young trees have been planted in the flattish area round Plants Brook which is near the border of the park.

Henry VI, who financed the construction of the "ten- pound castles". In 1429 Henry VI, King of England and Lord of Ireland in an effort to defend The Pale, granted ten pounds to any of his subjects who built a small defensive tower (20 × 16 × 40 feet) on the edge of the Pale before 1439. The tower house at Donore is assumed to be one of these castles, built by the local power, the Mac Eochagáin (McGeoghegans). In 1650, during the Cromwellian conquest of Ireland, the castle was taken by forces under Sir John Reynolds and over 40 members of the McGeoghegan family were massacred. According to the Civil Survey (1654–56) Garrat Lench of "Donowre" owned in 1640, and on the property was ‘a Castle and Orchard, a weare and some cottages.’ An illustration from 1785 shows the castle occupied with a hip roof (where all sides slope downwards to the walls).
