In this respect, the "99" call was extremely successful - no Lions player was sent off during the tour.

The league meetings between the clubs occurred in the 2000–01 season when Rovers did the double over Burnley on their way to promotion to the Premiership. The first meeting of the new millennium between them was at Turf Moor on 16 December. A very predictably bitter encounter went the way of Rovers with goals from Jason McAteer and Marcus Bent, Burnley's chances ending with the sending off of Kevin Ball. There were a few unpleasant scenes after the game, which some media observers deemed a ‘riot’ and a throwback to earlier scenes of football violence 20 years ago or more.
The standard disciplinary sanction in rugby league is the penalty. The referee may also award a penalty try, which is described in the section on scoring. If a team that has been penalised commits another offence (often dissent against the referee's decision), the referee may advance the position of the penalty 10 metres towards the offending team's goal line, and may also sin bin (temporary expulsion) or send off (permanent expulsion) the offending player(s). In the United Kingdom, the referee uses penalty cards to signal a sin-binning (yellow card) and a sending-off (red card).

He was handed his second yellow card against Willem II after being provoked by Martijn Reuser. When Mark van Bommel left PSV in 2005, Cocu was handed the role of captain by manager Guus Hiddink.

Bolton's first goalless draw of the season followed when West Bromwich Albion visited The Reebok.
Also during 1905–06, Blackpool had their first serious reprimand from the football authorities over crowd behaviour. It came after a 3–0 home defeat to West Brom, when referee W. Gilgryst had to be escorted from the field, protected from furious spectators who vented their anger regarding some controversial decisions. One of these had included the "sending-off" of a Blackpool fan for abusive language. Gilgryst was forced to leave the ground with the assistance of two police officers, and at the sounding of the final whistle, two hundred fans invaded the Bloomfield Road pitch.

In 1940, the U.S. Army leased Camp Edwards as a training facility as part of its mobilization strategy for World War II. The new plan called for new capacity to house 30,000 soldiers and was completed in just four months. At the peak of the construction, 30 buildings were completed every day. During the war, the camp functioned as a sending off point for troops as well as a training ground for anti-aircraft and amphibious units.
By this stage of the campaign many merchant ships were defensively armed, and a Q-ship would look suspicious if she did not do the same.Chatterton p126 It was a further development in the process of bluff and double-bluff which typified the Q-ship campaign. However UC-72 was not fooled by this lacklustre response, and Penshurt was not fully under control, so Naylor refrained from sending off his boat party, but opened fire with all guns. The sending-off is the quickest dismissal in club history. The majority of his appearances in the 1987–88 season were as a substitute, and, frustrated by lack of first-team opportunities, he joined Newcastle United in a £275,000 move in November 1988, after 36 appearances (31 in the League) & two goals for Manchester United.

He was dismissed for violent conduct after a challenge on Louis Carey, though the referee's decision was reported as 'harsh' and 'strange' by the Bristol City website. That red card was the only sending off, and subsequent suspension, of the season for Crewe, as the club was awarded the 'Bobby Moore Fair Play award for outstanding conduct and discipline throughout the season'.
Vale tried hard for the equaliser but were handicapped by a sending off midway through the second half. In the end Dumbarton held out for a 1-0 win. On 20 February Dumbarton travelled to Falkirk to play their penultimate league fixture against East Stirling. At his workshop, Q puts the sprayed nest in his trash compactor, but about one quarter of the nest survives, including the queen. The wasps then leave and begin sending off attack pheromones, which not only attract multiple other swarms, but also mutate them to have extremely potent venom similar to the sprayed swarm. Meanwhile, Cristina and Kent go to the home of a man who was stung to death by the swarm after they were attracted to the raw meat patties on his grill.
Harbhajan was involved in further controversy after an 2008 Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab at Mohali in April 2008. While the teams were shaking hands, he slapped Kerala paceman and Indian teammate Sreesanth in the face. Harbhajan, who had stood in as the Mumbai captain for the first three matches of the tournament to that point, all of which were lost, had apparently been angered by Sreesanth's aggressive sending-off of his batsmen as Punjab coasted to a decisive victory. The Kings XI Punjab lodged an official complaint to the IPL.
In rugby union sevens, the sending-off period is 2 minutes, which despite being eight minutes shorter, is actually a more severe penalty for two reasons: a) a normal sevens match lasts only 14 minutes instead of the 80 used in 15-man union or 13-man league, meaning that the penalty lasts one seventh (14.3%) as opposed to one eighth (12.5%) of the match, and b) during this time, the offender's team must play without one seventh of their team; this opens up more space than losing one thirteenth or one fifteenth of the side.
Artell admitted he had to come up with better 'coping mechanisms' after receiving four yellow cards and one sending off during the season. Reflecting on his team's progress, he said that it was a 'critical statistic' that his side failed to beat any of the bottom 11 sides away from home. Hoping to improve on a 12th-place finish, Artell released four players in the summer, whilst centre-back George Ray rejected the club's contract offer. After starting the 2019–20 season with four wins in six games, Artell was again nominated for the EFL League Two Manager of the Month award.

Both sides had drawn 2–2 in the first leg at the Reebok Stadium, this making for an excellent second leg in the return at Portman Road. The game was marred by 12 Bolton bookings, the sending off of Robbie Elliott and Mike Whitlow and three debatable Ipswich penalties. Bolton criticised the highly controversial performance of referee Barry Knight claiming that the Orpington official had given Ipswich an unfair advantage. Ipswich later won the game 5–3 after extra-time and it looked as if Guðni would be retiring from football at the age of 35.
On 10 January 2002, he had to be separated from the acting Liverpool manager Phil Thompson by the fourth official in a touchline argument over a bad tackle on Brett Ormerod. On 8 May 2004, Rofe was ordered from the technical area after protesting about the award of a penalty to Aston Villa. Most infamous was probably the row with the Blackburn Rovers boss, Graeme Souness, on 25 October 2003, following an unseemly brawl in which Andy Cole was sent off. Souness accused Rofe of trying to influence the officials, although he later had to accept that the sending off was justified.
He began the season as a regular in the starting eleven until 18 September, when the second sending-off of his Stanley career, just before Chesterfield scored a winning goal, resulted in a three-match ban. Spurs again had to come back from behind at Newcastle after Fabricio Coloccini volleyed home the opener for Newcastle, but Aaron Lennon rescued a point late on with his second goal against Newcastle this season. Tottenham concluded January with an FA Cup exit at Fulham, with 2 Danny Murphy penalties in fifteen minutes sandwiched by Michael Dawson's sending off meant that Fulham were truly on their way. Magee played at half back for Dublin in the late 90s and early years of the 21st century. He made his senior football debut for Dublin against Sligo in the 1997 National Football League, although he had previously appeared for Dublin in the O'Byrne Cup against Wexford in 1996. In 2003, Magee was substituted against Armagh during an All-Ireland quarter final to allow a reserve goalkeeper to come on following the sending off of Stephen Cluxton. Seen by several commentators as having his best ever game for the Dubs, Magee's absence was immediately felt and Armagh went on to win the game.
While she is very good friends with Miyuki, Shion is often greatly annoyed by her constant expense authorization requests so she can build new experimental products under the pretense of the K-PX Project. Miyuki has made quite the hobby out of sending off patent applications to the Federation Patent Office, though it's not known how many of her inventions actually have authorized patents. She seems to be rather wrapped up in herself and her work though because she seems capable of completely forgetting about other people, like Allen. However, Itsumi is somewhat involved in a relationship with Togashi, a fellow Vector employee.

In 1996 the hurling revolution continued. Limerick reached their second All-Ireland final in three years, while Wexford booked their place in the championship decider after a nineteen- year absence. A goal by Tom Dempsey in the opening half gave Wexford a deserved 1–8 to 0–10 lead at the interval; however, they had been reduced to fourteen men after the sending-off of Éamonn Scallan. The second-half saw their four-point lead being whittled down to just two points; however, fourteen-man Wexford clung on to win by 1–13 to 0-14.

The game, however, was particularly noted for the unexplained sending off of Argentina captain Antonio Rattín after receiving his second caution of the game. The Argentines considered the second caution to be unfair, including Rattín himself, who had to be escorted from the pitch by police as he refused leave the pitch. Rattín was cautioned at the start of the match for a lunge on Bobby Charlton. Rattín then fouled Geoff Hurst and inexplicably received another caution (the use of cards yellow/red would not be adopted until the next World Cup in Mexico) for arguing with the referee for a teammate's foul.
International trial matches were held on 4 March to consider selection of teams to represent Scotland in the upcoming Home International Championship - John McLeod and John Taylor took part. Although the absence of McNaught who had travelled south, in addition to the ‘trialists’ and the sending off of Lawrence Bell in the second half did not help Dumbarton's cause.

The following year he was referee for the FA Cup semi- final at Hillsborough between Birmingham City and Fulham. He began to make regular starting appearances and scored the only goal against his previous loan employers Shrewsbury Town in the opening game of the season. Having played regularly until November McAllister lost his place once more and deemed a fringe player, was allowed to leave as United looked to trim their squad.

It was not until October 1901 that he became Everton's first-choice custodian, following Muir's departure, helping Everton to reach the runners-up position in the First Division at the end of the 1901–02 season. He retained his place in the side until the arrival of Irish international Billy Scott in the summer of 1904. After a season spent in the reserves, Kitchen was transferred in the summer of 1905 to West Ham United of the Southern League, as replacement for Matt Kingsley who had been dropped following a sending-off in March.
After the match, Mackay criticised the club's performance in the first leg as "hopeless", though he believed the club had chances of winning the next leg. However, in the return leg, MacKay was unable to help the club overturn the deficit and they were eliminated from the Europa League. In a match against Celtic on 13 August 2014, MacKay received a second bookable offence after making a foul on Derk Boerrigter, when in fact Boerrigter had dived to win the penalty, as there was no contact from Mackay. As a result, the club appealed Mackay's sending off and won after Boerrigter was charged and missed two matches.

Afterwards, Givet said that he wanted to leave Blackburn in the summer.
Arsenal returned to Premier League action against a recently manager-less Crystal Palace and a solid 2–0 win (despite going to down to ten men following Arteta's sending off) sent Arsenal temporarily 5 points clear at the top of the table. One or two months before the ritual, both ceremonial groups send their delegates to decide on an appropriate date to hold the ritual, which is around the fifteenth day of the tenth month in the lunar calendar. Preparations are then begun and ceremonial songs, forbidden on other occasions, are practiced. The rituals, dances and songs performed in the Pas-ta’ai are complex, consisting of the five phases of raraol (welcoming the spirits), kisirinaolan (treating the spirits), kisitomal (entertaining the spirits), papatnawasak (chasing the spirits) and papaosa (sending off the spirits). Following the five phases is the “post-ritual ceremony,” which brings the ceremony to an end.

Birmingham were not yet assured of safety by the time they played Sunderland on 12 April, but Bryan Hughes and Christophe Dugarry scored to give Birmingham a 2–0 win. Dugarry went on to score four goals in Birmingham's next three games, including a stunning effort against Middlesbrough where he beat the offside trap before calmly taking the ball out of the air with his knee and volleying it into the net. The last game of the season saw the side entertain West Ham United, who were in real danger of relegation.
The 2003–04 season was an unexpected success. Batatoudis was no longer the major shareholder and under coach Anastasiadis, PAOK managed to finish 3rd in the league and to secure participation in the third qualifying round of 2004–05 UEFA Champions League, where they faced Maccabi Tel Aviv. The 1st leg at Toumba Stadium ended 1–2, but it was later awarded 0–3 against PAOK for fielding a suspended player. In a rematch with Newcastle, the Jets defeated Central Coast 1–0 in the Grand Final, which ended in controversy due to an uncalled handball against Newcastle in Central Coast Mariners penalty box during the closing seconds of the match. If called, the foul would have given Central Coast a penalty kick and a chance to equalise. As Mariners players disputed referee Mark Shield's decision, goalkeeper Danny Vuković struck Shield on the arm, resulting in an immediate sending off and later suspension. Vuković was suspended from both domestic and international competition for nine months, with an additional six-months' suspended ban; the latter period was reduced to three months on appeal.
Having been capped at the U-17 and U-19 levels, Huddlestone was a regular in the England under-21s. He played twice in the 2007 UEFA European Under-21 Championship before a red card for dissent ruled him out of the semi-final and final. In October 2008, he scored the opening goal from a free kick in the second leg of the 2009 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualification play-offs against Wales. In 1978, Gloucester RFC won the first ever John Player Cup, defeating Leicester Tigers in another final noted for violent play both on and off the pitch at Twickenham Stadium. Despite the two cup wins of the 1970s, and a shared trophy in 1982, Gloucester were soon to find themselves in the shadow of Bath, the rising force from down the A46.
The controversial sending-off of Mariners goalkeeper Danny Vukovic in the 16th minute turned the match in favour of Sydney. Ufuk Talay scored their 5th goal via a penalty in stoppage time. On Friday 28 December 2007, Sydney FC came from behind for the second time in two weeks to defeat Adelaide United 3–1 and keep its unbeaten away record intact in front of a record Adelaide crowd of 25,039. On June 2008, a club takeover was completed and ambitious plans for a return to Serie B were unveiled. However, impressive performances in the Lega Pro Prima Divisione 2008–09 were accompanied by financial troubles, which led to the club being declared insolvent by the local magistrate in April 2009 due to excessive financial debts. The club's president was later arrested and has to stand trial on charges related to the bankruptcy. The drive to Serie B came to nothing for the team in a most bitter way; badly losing the home return match of their playoff final against Padova, who played with 10 men after an early sending off.
In 1982, McGrath moved to Manchester United, then managed by Ron Atkinson. He missed out on a place in the FA Cup victory over Brighton & Hove Albion the following year, but soon ousted Gordon McQueen to become the regular partner to Kevin Moran in the centre of defence. He was named man of the match for the 1985 FA Cup Final, which United won 1–0 against Everton and which was largely remembered for the sending off of Kevin Moran – the first ever in the competition's final. In his early years at Manchester United, McGrath was frequently used as a midfielder, changing to defender while still at Old Trafford.

Tranmere got a goal back just before halftime and came out dominant in the second half with Adam Dugdale scoring to level the game. Donaldson added another for Brentford before Tranmere again equalised in the 90th minute with a strike from substitute Cole Stockton.
Three days later Brentford entertained Tranmere at Griffin Park. Blackburn took the lead after 13 minutes: Eric Cantona handled on the right touchline and, when Graeme Le Saux's cross entered the area, Peter Schmeichel punched the ball out straight to Paul Warhurst, who returned it with a deft chip off 30 yards into the top of the goal. As Blackburn appeared on the brink of an unbreakable hold, the tone of the match was irretrievably altered when Henning Berg brought down Lee Sharpe in the area. The penalty decision, later shown to be incorrect as Berg had played the ball, was compounded by Berg's sending off. Cantona scored the penalty into the left-hand corner.

However, in an unexpected turn of an event, he revealed he was yet to sign a contract with the club and he also said his agent had been talking with other clubs on his behalf.
He played all four of Denmark's matches at the 2002 World Cup, though Gravesen and his partner in the Danish midfield duo, Stig Tøfting, justified their pit bull reputations when they ganged up to play a prank on teammate Jesper Grønkjær at a World Cup training session. He missed the first group match at Euro 2004 as he was suspended due to a sending off in the last qualifying match before the tournament but he played the remaining three games before Denmark were eliminated. On 15 September 2006, Gravesen announced his decision to end his international career, deciding now to focus his efforts solely on Celtic.

They became the first London club to win back-to-back league titles since the 1930s, and only the fifth side to do so since the Second World War.
Camp impressed in the game and as a result Grant found himself on the bench at the start of the season despite his recent good form. The move led to press reports that Grant was surplus to requirements at Pride Park, however manager George Burley dismissed the story as "total speculation with no basis in fact". Around the same time, Grant also found himself ousted from the England under-21 squad by Camp. Grant would have to wait until 19 October to make his first appearance of the season for Derby, when he replaced Lee Camp in goal following Camp's sending-off against Wolves.
He was awarded the Legion of Merit for his outstanding service in this area. In 1944, Wood also had the distinction of sending off to war a 42-year-old pilot named Charles Lindbergh. All but disgraced by his pro-German comments and behavior before World War II, the legendary but tainted Lindbergh had previously been denied returning to the Army Air Corps when he had volunteered after Pearl Harbor. Now in his role as civilian test pilot for United Aircraft, Lindbergh convinced Wood that he could properly test the company's new Vought F4U Corsair fighter planes only by flying them in actual combat conditions.

Dixon made his debut in July 2005, in a Scottish Challenge Cup match, making his league debut a week later. His first goal came in January 2006, when he netted the second in a 3–0 win at Brechin City and he scored again in the final match of the season, playing in the majority of first team games. Shortly after his first goal, Dixon was rewarded with a contract extension until the summer of 2008, along with eight other youngsters. In the 2006–07 season, Dixon continued as a first team regular, receiving his first sending off in March 2007 in a season where he failed to score.
After returning, Obasi continued to appear in the first team and scored five times in five months. In a match against Paderborn on 9 March 2008, which saw Hoffenheim win 1–0, Obasi was sent-off in the 54th minute when he was involved in an incident with opposition midfielder Erwin Koen. After the match, Obasi claimed that Koen racially abused him, which led to his sending off, a claim Koen denied and even thought about taking legal action against Obasi. In the end, the DFB's control committee decided against taking action against Koen, citing lack of evidence and Obasi served a three match suspension.
Certain areas like Gunfoundry, and Kalasiguda celebrate Bonalu in the Sravanam month, unlike other parts of the city which celebrates in the month of Ashadam. Gunfoundry Muthyalamma Temple is the one temple which has an almost two century old tradition. The tradition consists of two days festivals, with the first day of the festival with Bonam given to deities from various devotees, known as the Thotela procession, followed by the Ghatam procession, and concluding with Ori (village) Bonam by the trustees on behalf the devotees. On the second day, events like Rangam, Kallu Ghatam, Sare Gampa procession, and Gavurangam (Potharaju) take place, concluding the event by sending off the Ghatam procession.
Gardner immediately established himself a place in the first team for Bolton. He came on as a substitute to make his debut against Hartlepool in the League Cup on 25 August 1998, and made his league debut as a substitute again against West Bromwich Albion on 8 September 1998. In this game, Bolton were reduced to 10 men after the sending off of Guðni Bergsson shortly after Gardner came on, but he scored a late winner to give his team a memorable 3–2 victory over West Brom. He made 22 appearances, half of them starts, in his first year while scoring three goals.
The final has been described as "the one that slipped away", as the expected venue, Newmarket Park, was made unavailable after a small landslide destroyed much of the playing area. McLennan Park in Papakura stepped in as a replacement. Mount Wellington would have gone into the match as clear favourites, but the sending off of play-maker Brian Turner in the previous match rendered him suspended from the final,l evening the two sides up considerably. p.78 In the first half goals were traded, with the Mount's John Leijh opening the scoring only for Keith Hobbs to level the score for North Shore.
In the 2009–10 season, Brama started the season well when he helped the side making a good start to the season, resulting them at the top of the table. His performance was praised by McClaren as a result. Brama started in every matches since the start of the season until he missed one game against Vitesse on 21 November 2009, due to suspension. After missing one game, he scored on his return on 28 November 2009, in a 3–1 win over Willem II. Brama then started every matches since returning until his sending off once again during a 0–0 draw against Utrecht on 17 January 2010.
In July 2015, Saracchi was moved to the Danubio first team. He was included in the matchday squad for the first time on 12 August for Danubio's Copa Sudamericana match against Universidad Católica. During that match, Saracchi was subbed on for Ignacio González in the 77th minute, but his competitive debut for the club was cut short when he was subbed off five minutes later following Alejandro Peña's second yellow card and subsequent sending off. The following weekend, Saracchi made his Primera División debut, making another substitute appearance, this time replacing Leandro Sosa in the 63rd minute of a 2-0 away victory over Juventud.
The 2009 A-League Grand Final took place at Telstra Dome in Melbourne, Australia on 28 February 2009. It was the final match in the A-League 2008–09 season, and was played between premiers Melbourne Victory and runners-up Adelaide United. Melbourne Victory won the match 1–0 and became the winners of the 2008–09 Championship, thus becoming the first team to win the A-League domestic treble, after also claiming the 2008 Pre-Season Challenge Cup, and the 2008–09 Premiership. The match will always be marred by the 10th minute sending off of Cristiano which ultimately contributed to the loss.
On 1 November, after lengthy negotiations with Carlisle United the club agreed to extend the loan of striker Paddy Madden until January, the Irish forward having scored five goals in his five appearances in the first month of his loan deal. Gary Johnson also did not rule out a permanent deal for the Carlisle striker suggesting it was part of the discussions to extend his loan deal. On 3 November, Yeovil's FA Cup ended with a first round away defeat at Preston North End. The 3–0 lacklustre defeat was not helped by the sending off of Ed Upson, who coincidentally was sent off in the corresponding league fixture in September.
The match was most notable for the sending off of All Black lock Cyril Brownlie, who became the first player to ever be sent off in a Test match. In 1936 England defeated the All Blacks for the first time when England winger Prince Alexander Obolensky scored two tries during a 13-0 victory at Twickenham Stadium. The All Blacks have never lost more than two consecutive matches to England (once, on losses in November 2002 and then June 2003) and have dominated the rivalry between the teams. Of the 42 matches between them, New Zealand have won 33 and England 8, with one draw.
He then regained his first team place in late–January in absent of Liddle's international commitment. After suffering a knee injury in February, his return was short–lived when he briefly suffered a neck injury. Despite this, he had a handful of first team appearances until his sending off for second bookable offence, in a 1–1 draw against Cheltenham Town on 25 April 2009. At the 2008–09 season, Horwood made the total of 28 appearances. In the 2009–10 season, Horwood started out on the substitute bench at the start of the season, as Ian Harte was preferred in the left–back position.
Under Adams, Taylor was utilized in an attacking role, rather than his original role as left-back/left midfielder. He was transfer listed in late September, along with the entire Port Vale squad, after manager Micky Adams saw his team slip to a third consecutive defeat. On 28 December 2009 he scored his sixth of the season at Grimsby Town's Blundell Park, before getting his second bookable offence, earning him the first sending off of his professional career. To his surprise and delight, his good form earned him a contract extension in January 2010 that tied him to the "Vale" until the summer of 2012.
Arsenal began the season with a 2–0 home victory against promoted Birmingham City; goals from Thierry Henry and Sylvain Wiltord extended the club's winning run to fourteen matches – a new top-flight record. A late equaliser by Wiltord in their next match at West Ham United earned Arsenal a point, having trailed 2–0 in the first half. Three days later, a 5–2 win against West Bromwich Albion moved Arsenal to the top of the league table. Although they drew to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, having lost captain Vieira through a sending-off, a win against Manchester City meant Arsenal leapfrogged local rivals Tottenham Hotspur to first position.
The 62nd minute sending off of Keanu Baccus for kicking out at an opponent left them a man down and needing to attack. As they pushed players forward Adelaide kept breaking on the counter-attack, eventually scoring the winning goal in the 80th minute through Ryan Kitto. On the 19 April, after a disappointing season where the Wanderers failed to qualify for the 2017–18 A-League finals and players making problems with his management style known to reporters and the public, Gombau was fired. The Wanderers finished the season in 7th place on 33 points, two behind Brisbane, one ahead of Perth, having won 8 games, drew 9, lost 10, scoring 38 goals and conceding 47 against.
Meanwhile, on 13 September the club suffered a loss of 7–3 at Gay Meadow to Shrewsbury Town, despite a Bobby Gough hat-trick – the match also saw a sending off, an attempted pitch invasion, and a £35 fine for Gordon Lee for remarks he made to referee Ricky Nicholson. Tommy McLaren then returned from injury to lead Vale on a four match winning streak that included a 2–0 win over fallen-giants Aston Villa in front of a Burslem crowd of 11,224 fans. Four straight defeats soon came after this sequence however, as Vale's form was patchy. In December, Ron Wilson left the club as he emigrated to South Africa due to his son's ill health.
Alves was carried out in a stretcher "unable to walk", but after Pepe was shown red, Alves came running back into the field within seconds. After Pepe's sending off, coach José Mourinho was also sent off, receiving a fine and a five-match ban. This same match was also controversial in that Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets being captured on video saying what seemed like a supposed racial slur to Madrid left-back Marcelo. The second leg was not as controversial as the first, with perhaps the exception of an annulled goal to Gonzalo Higuaín after Cristiano Ronaldo had "fouled" Javier Mascherano as a result of a foul to Ronaldo by Gerard Piqué.
He continued to feature in the starting lineup as right-back, despite competition from Ricardo van Rhijn. This lasted until he was sent-off for handball in the second half of a 1–0 loss against Groningen on 1 October 2011. After returning to the first team from suspension, his return against arch-rivals Feyenoord on 23 October 2011 was overshadowed by his own supporters booing him when he was substituted following goalkeeper Kenneth Vermeer's sending-off. On 2 November 2011, in a UEFA Champions League match against Dinamo Zagreb, Van der Wiel won over the club's supporters when he scored and set up another in a 4–0 win, earning himself a Man of the Match award.
Although played in various positions during last few qualifying campaigns, he has made the defensive slot his own, mainly in central defence with Richard Dunne and at right-back on occasion or filling in for injured players. On 19 August 2003, O'Shea scored his first international goal as he headed in Ireland's first in a 2–1 home friendly victory over Australia. During the 2010 World Cup qualifying, O'Shea was ever present in the starting line-up for eight of the 10 games. On 1 April 2009, in the game against Italy, he was elbowed in the forehead by Giampaolo Pazzini, who earned the record for the fastest sending off in Italian football history.
Following his performances with newly promoted West Ham in the 1980–81 season, Stewart was called up by manager Jock Stein for Scotland making his debut on 15 May 1981 against Wales in Swansea. A sending-off following an incident with Mark Hateley in an under 21 game against England at Hampden Park in April 1982 cost him his place in that year's Scotland World Cup squad and he did not play international football under Stein but was recalled under new Scotland manager Andy Roxburgh, playing three more games. He made ten appearances in all, scoring one goal in a 2–0 win against Northern Ireland on 19 May 1981 at Hampden in the British Home Championship.
While questioning Totti's sending off by Moreno, Blatter refused to blame Italy's loss entirely on the referees, stating: "Italy's elimination is not only down to referees and linesmen who made human not premeditated errors ... Italy made mistakes both in defense and in attack." A three-way five point tie in the group stage of the 2004 European Championship left Italy as the "odd man out", as they failed to qualify for the quarter finals after finishing behind Denmark and Sweden on the basis of number of goals scored in matches among the tied teams. Italy's winning goal scored during stoppage time giving them a 2–1 victory over Bulgaria by Antonio Cassano proved futile, ending the team's tournament.
Nineteen years after Voldemort's downfall, Ron and Hermione have two children: Rose Granger-Weasley, whom they are sending off to her first year at Hogwarts, and a younger son named Hugo. Though the epilogue does not explicitly say Ron and Hermione are married, news articles and other sources treat it as a fact. Ron has also passed his Muggle driving test, despite Hermione's apparent belief that he could not do so without Confunding the examiner. (Ron secretly reveals to Harry he actually did Confund the examiner.) He and Harry work for the Ministry of Magic as Aurors, and along with Hermione they have helped to revamp the Ministry; it is far different from the one that existed previously.
The Bulldogs' 2007 NRL Premiership campaign began against the Newcastle Knights. While the Knights won 25–24 in a dramatic season opener at EnergyAustralia Stadium, the game will long be remembered for the sending off of Sonny Bill Williams for a swinging left arm which left Andrew Johns lying face down on the turf unconscious in the fourth minute. The Bulldogs capitalised on this, at one point leading 24–8 before a comeback by the Knights saw them lose by just one point. The Bulldogs then suffered a gigantic loss to Penrith a week later, before recording their first win of the season against new club the Gold Coast Titans in front of a home crowd of 14,675.
In what many consider to be the greatest provincial championship decider of them all, Cork narrowly lost on a 3–16 to 1–21 score line. The game was not without incident for Murphy, who was involved in an off-the-ball altercation which led to John Mullane's sending off. In spite of surrendering their provincial crown, Cork still reached the All-Ireland final via the back door. Kilkenny provided the opposition on a gloomy and overcast day, however, the game failed to live up to expectations. The sides were level for much of the game, and in the final twenty minutes Cork scored nine points without reply and secured a 0–17 to 0–9 victory.
LuaLua received a four-match suspension for the sending-off and missed several 2006 World Cup qualifying round matches during the summer of June 2004. He was selected for the World Cup qualifier against South Africa in September, but missed the match due to injury, and was dropped for the next qualifier against Ghana in October. He missed the 1–1 draw with Ghana in March 2005 after a dispute with the DR Congo football association but committed himself to the match against Uganda in June. He scored in a friendly against Guinea played in Paris in August, a match used as preparation for the World Cup qualifying matches the following month.
After December, good results in Europe and in the Taça de Portugal helped to boost the team's morale and performance. In January, Benfica signed Paulo Futre, the 1987 Ballon d'Or runner-up with Porto, for what the media described to be upwards of £2.4 million. Later that month, Benfica played with Porto at the Estádio das Antas for the sixth round of the Portuguese cup. Porto took the lead soon after Mozer's sending off on the 70th minute, but Benfica drew level through Aleksandr Mostovoi, with two minutes to play. The contend was decided in a replay match in Lisbon, which Benfica won 2–0 with goals from Isaías and Sergei Yuran.
For a second successive time, a Vale player was named the division's Player of the Month; Ashley Vincent took the award, but credited his teammates, saying "this award is as much for them as it is for me". Vale went three league games without a win on 6 November, as they lost a two-goal lead to draw 2–2 at home with Rochdale; the game turned on Sam Morsy's sending off on the 67 minute mark. Three days later, Adams boosted his midfield by signing former Shrewsbury player Sean McAllister to an eight-week deal. A day later and Vale travelled to Roots Hall and came away with a point following a goalless draw.
Novara then came into the game and were rewarded after 70 minutes, when Raffaele Rubino scored a typical header from close range to become the first player to score goals in the top 4 levels of Italian football at the same club. Novara then doubled Parma's pain 8 minutes later with a Marco Rigoni header. A late Giuseppe Gemiti sending-off and a 200th Parma appearance for Hernán Crespo were not enough to give Parma a way back into the game, as Novara won their first match in nine. Following a disappointing mid-week exit from the Coppa Italia, islanders Palermo visited the Tardini, having failed to score in each of their previous six away league games.
At about the same time as the lyric was composed the walls of Modena were augmented for defence against the Magyars, and prayers pleading deliverance from their raids are preserved in the same manuscript as the watchmen's song. The song falls into the tradition of liturgical vigils (known to have been kept at Modena during this time) and the secular vigiliae murorum (vigils of the walls). It was probably composed for use at Mass sending off the guards for duty. The poet invokes the blessing of Christ, the Virgin, and John, who had lately seen a chapel consecrated in their honour on 26 July 881, a date which helps place the poem in time.
Caparrós had been making many changes in his line-ups until that moment, and the team had even more troubles being creative with the absence of Valerón; many goals kept coming out of standard plays. Usually, good results are always the best medicine for a team facing difficulties. But again the team couldn't win at home: this time against Zaragoza (1-1), thanks to fine saves of Molina, with another sending-off of Coloccini. On 26 February 2006, the team was eight again in the Liga and had to travel to Pamplona to meet fourth-placed Osasuna. The team were 1-0 down when during the break Diego Tristán entered the match.
He was ordained on 5 June 1830 in Saint-Dié-des-Vosges and was sent as a vicar to the parish in Moyenmoutier where his brother Joseph-Victor was the curate. Two years later, he was transferred to Fraize, where he remained until he entered the seminary of the Paris Foreign Missions Society (MEP) on 10 September 1835. The course was a brief one, providing him with basic geographical knowledge about his approximate posting, but not the language, which he was supposed to learn during the six-month sea voyage. Following tradition, Miche only learned the exact location of his mission, Cochinchina, during the sending off ceremony in the MEP chapel of the Rue du Bac.
The current version of V Live has over 700 channels focusing on a variety of K-pop stars and actors. Many K-pop idols also participate in a “Hi touch” event, even those that are widely known and popular, such as MONSTA X. A “Hi Touch” is the opportunity for fans to personally meet the idols and essentially give them a high five, with the chance to say a quick word or two. The chance could be either before a concert or afterwards, sending off the idols to their next destination. With the current state of the pandemic affecting every part of the world, in-person concerts are impossible to attend or even create.
Judger Carter invited Louis Agassiz to observe the local strata, but Agassiz declined as the journey would have involved riding horseback to the site, a mode of transportation Agassiz abhorred. Carter's son-in-law, Dr. J. Van A. Carter, would go on to send a number of fossils to palaeontologist Joseph Leidy at the University of Pennsylvania in 1869. These fossils included the first Bridgerian fossil taxa, Omomys carteri; and the skull discovered by Robinson, which was described as Palaeosyops paludosus. Another researcher responsible for sending off specimens was Dr. Joseph K. Corson, a close friend of Leidy's who hosted him and his family on two three to Fort Bridger in 1872, 1873, and 1879.
The first semi-final featured the host nation, Italy, and the world champions, Argentina in Naples. 'Toto' Schillaci scored yet again to put Italy ahead in the 17th minute, but Claudio Caniggia equalised midway through the second half, breaking Walter Zenga's clean sheet streak throughout the tournament. There were no more goals in the 90 minutes or in extra time despite Maradona (who played for Naples in Serie A at the time) showing glimpses of magic, but there was a sending-off: Ricardo Giusti of Argentina was shown the red card in the 13th minute of extra time. Argentina went through on penalties, winning the shoot-out 4–3 after more heroics from Goycochea.
The final was particularly controversial due to the high number of yellow cards issued (fourteen, resulting in one sending-off). The most notable incident was Nigel de Jong's kick into the midriff of Alonso, punished only with a booking from referee Howard Webb, who subsequently admitted he should have shown a red card. Just before the game-winning goal was scored, the Dutch team had a free kick that hit the wall (apparently taking a deflection off Cesc Fàbregas) before going out. Despite the deflection, which should have given possession and a corner kick to the Dutch team, a goal kick was given to the Spanish, starting the play that led to the winning goal.
In poor conditions Down prevailed with a 4-point victory over their opponents, with Kalum picking up 2 yellow cards for a sending-off during the game. The next game was against Offaly in Tullamore, where Kalum turned in a 'Man of the Match' performance to overturn a large first-half deficit to come away with the victory and move to the next round of the qualifiers. Sligo were the next opponents and saw Down pick up their biggest championship win in a number of years with a huge 3-20 to 0-10 win. This gave the side serious momentum for Kerry who lay in wait in the All-Ireland Quarter Finals.
The controversial sending-off of Mariners goalkeeper Danny Vukovic in the 16th minute turned the match in favour of Sydney, who scored their 5th goal via an Ufuk Taly penalty with the final kick of the match in stoppage time. On Friday 28 December 2007, Sydney FC came from behind for the second time in two weeks to defeat a 10-man Adelaide United 3–1 and keep its unbeaten away record intact in front of a record crowd of 25,039 in Adelaide. This result forced Adelaide down to 5th on the ladder. With 3rd place Newcastle Jets unable to secure a victory over Wellington Phoenix in Round 18, Sydney leap-frogged the Jets into 3rd place, with only 3 points behind the tied leaders.
Sydney started the match well but with many poor decisions by referee Mark Shield including the sending off of Midfielder Robbie Middleby for a tackle, which did not even deserve a yellow. Queensland scored in the 14th minute through their Brazilian import Reinaldo and Sydney never looked like coming back after that. Referee Shield made another poor call when Sydney captain Tony Popović allegedly shoved Roar striker Tahj Minniecon in the penalty box, and Sasa Ognenovski converted the penalty past keeper Clint Bolton. Many Sydney fans were disgusted at the poor display shown by referee Mark Shield, as most games refereed under him have turned out to be fair challenges, and as a result the small Sydney group that had travelled across the border booed him off.
At Southampton, Fox began to established himself in the first team, playing in the left back position and helped the team gain promotion to the Premier League. In the 2012–13 season, Fox continued to be in the first team regular and scored his first goal for the club in a 6–1 defeat at Arsenal on 15 September 2012. However, Fox's own injury concern and his sending off against West Brom on 27 April 2013, which saw him served them a three–match ban, restricted him to twenty appearance in the 2012–13 season. Fox made his first appearance of the 2013–14 season, playing in the left–back position, in a 5–1 win over Barnsley in the second round of League Cup.
On 11 February 2007, Hall scored an own goal against Arsenal, to make the score 1–1, before Tomáš Rosický scored a winner. On 21 February 2007, Hall received a straight red card after a challenge on Johan Cavalli in a 1–1 draw against Watford. After the match, Wigan officially confirmed that they would appeal against Hall's sending off, but the next day, FA rejected Wigan's appeal, meaning Hall had to serve a three-match ban. After making a returning from suspension, Hall's career at Wigan went bad to worse after he conceded a penalty against Charlton Athletic following a foul on Marcus Bent, allowing Darren Bent to convert it and score, resulting in Charlton scoring the only goal of the match.

Davis played just once more for Walsall before he was recalled. With three first-team midfielders unavailable, McCarthy included him on the bench for Wolves' Premier League visit to Chelsea; he remained unused. After more appearances on the first-team bench, and a sending-off for a "reckless challenge" in a reserve-team local derby against West Bromwich Albion, Davis signed for League Two Shrewsbury Town on 31 January 2011 on loan for a month, later extended to the end of the campaign. He went straight into the starting eleven and "combined a crispness in the tackle with an impressive range of passing" in what the Shropshire Star called "a highly intelligent display" as Shrewsbury beat Burton Albion 3–0.

The following week Everton hosted West Brom, Everton found themselves down two goals inside with 30 minutes after Paul Scharner's strike and Chris Brunt's 30-yard free kick. Tim Cahill then scored his eighth goal of the season with a close range header from Leighton Baines' assist, it was the sixth time that Baines and Cahill had combined for a Cahill goal in the season. Mikel Arteta was then dismissed for violent conduct, before Somen Tchoyi put West Brom up 3 – 1 soon after Sylvain Distin scored an own goal to close the match out for the Baggies, the only sour note for West Brom was the late sending off of Youssuf Mulumbu after his second bookable offence in as many minutes.
Joaquin Valenzuela is said by various surviving gang members or their descendants, to have been one of the several unnamed gang members killed by the California Rangers during their attack on the gang at the Arroyo de Cantua, on July 25, 1853. He was later buried, with his head and both of his hands, by these gang members, and also according to them, the burial party included Joaquin Murrieta himself, who had been away in the mountains and had not been in the skirmish. According to the descendants of the family and former gang members the gang had been closing down their operation, gathering up and sending off the last of their droves of horses and leaving for Sonora when the Rangers struck.
In December 2009, Zemmamouche was selected by Rabah Saâdane to play in the 2010 African Cup of Nations hosted in Angola, and as backup to Faouzi Chaouchi, he came on as a replacement in the semi-final against Egypt following Chaouchi's sending-off, before playing the entire 90 minutes of the Third-place Playoff against Nigeria. Zemmamouche was the last player cut as Algeria coach Rabah Saâdane finalised his 23-man squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa. Zemmamouche was also selected in the Algerian national team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil as Algeria's second-choice goalkeeper. He contested just one qualifier ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, filling in for Rais M'Bolhi against Burkina Faso.
This marked the most goals Chelsea had scored against Arsenal, Chelsea's biggest margin of victory against Arsenal and the joint heaviest margin of defeat suffered by Wenger at Arsenal. Notable incidents in the match included Chelsea jumping out to a three-goal lead inside of 15 minutes, as well as the sending off of Kieran Gibbs by referee Andre Marriner for a handball committed by his teammate Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. On 5 October 2014, Chelsea beat Arsenal 2–0, which meant Arsenal manager Wenger had not won against José Mourinho in twelve attempts. This game also featured former Arsenal captain Cesc Fàbregas playing against his former club for Chelsea for the first time, recording an assist on Diego Costa's goal.
Murdoch returned to Falkirk and made his first start for them in a 1–0 away defeat against Partick Thistle in a Scottish Cup fourth round replay on 18 January 2011. He scored his first goal for the club in the home 2–0 victory against Cowdenbeath on 26 February 2011. In the 2011–12 season, Murdoch was shown the first red card of his career in a 1–1 draw away at Livingston on 10 September 2011 and after the match, the club decided not to appeal his sending off. Murdoch scored the winning penalty in a 5–4 shootout victory after a 2–2 draw in the quarter finals of the League Cup away at Dundee United on 25 October 2011.
Despite his satisfactory showing against the Spaniards, Savićević was benched again for the quarterfinal clash against reigning world champions Argentina four days later. Starting the match in 4–5–1 formation, Osim had Zoran Vulić back in the lineup as part of the four-man defensive unit, and youngster Prosinečki replacing injured Katanec in midfield while Vujović was now alone in attack from the very start. Riding behind midfield playmaker Stojković, Yugoslavia looked very good throughout the match even when reduced to ten men following the 31st minute expulsion of Refik Šabanadžović. Somewhat surprisingly, Osim did not make any substitutions after the sending off, deciding to wait until 15 minutes into the second half to put on Savićević instead of Sušić.
Paul the Apostle, by Rembrandt Harmensz van Rijn An apostle (), in its most literal sense, is an emissary, from Greek ἀπόστολος (apóstolos), literally "one who is sent off", from the verb ἀποστέλλειν (apostéllein), "to send off".Liddell & Scott's Greek-English Lexicon, Oxford, 1944 The purpose of such sending off is usually to convey a message, and thus "messenger" is a common alternative translation; other common translations include "ambassador" and "envoy". The term derives from the Greek of the New Testament and was used for Jesus's original Twelve Apostles (including Peter, James, and John), as well as a wider group of early Christian figures, including Paul, Barnabas, and Junia. Some other religions use the term for comparable figures in their history.
He has played at international level for South Africa and was South Africa's number one goalkeeper at the 2008 African Cup of Nations replacing the injured Rowen Fernandez. He did not make the final squad for the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup, but earned selection to the squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup at Fernandez's expense. He was not expected to see much playing time as back-up to Itumeleng Khune, but on 16 June 2010 he was called on as a 79th-minute substitute for Steven Pienaar following Khune's sending-off against Uruguay. Josephs was powerless to stop the resultant penalty from Diego Forlán as Bafana Bafana lost the match 3–0 with two goals from Forlan and a stoppage-time strike from Álvaro Pereira.
Reflecting the importance of controlling patronage in Egypt, Nahas Pasha had gone on a separate relief tour of Upper Egypt apart from the king and founded a relief organization, the Nahas Institute, in his own name instead of the king as was normal to treat the thousands sickened with malaria. Farouk told Lampson that "there could not be two kings in Egypt" and the "semi-royal" nature of Nahas's tour of Upper Egypt was an insult to him. Farouk attempted to soften the blow by announcing the new prime minister would be the well known Anglophile Prince Hassanein, but Lampson refused to accept him. Lampson attempted to have Farouk deposed again, sending off a telegram to Churchill advising that Britain take "direct control" of Egypt.
FCK won the Danish Superliga trophy in the season 2005-06. The championship was secured on May 7 after a 0–1 defeat at Fionia Park against Odense BK, but with simultaneously, AC Horsens winning 4–1 over Brøndby IF. They won on April 6 the Royal League again, after an exciting final against Lillestrøm S.K., where Razak Pimpong scored the decisive goal in the final seconds. FCK were knocked out of the UEFA Cup by Hamburger SV on September 29 after a very controversial refereeing performance by British Matthew Messias, giving eight yellow cards, two of those leading to a sending off, and a third direct red card, all in the last ten minutes, and giving HSV a 92nd-minute penalty kick.
In ice hockey, there are two kinds of sending-off penalties: “game misconduct penalty” and the more serious “match penalty” which is imposed for deliberately injuring another player as well as attempting to injure another player. Many other penalties automatically become match penalties if injuries actually occur: under NHL rules, butt-ending, goalies using blocking glove to the face of another player, head-butting, kicking, punching an unsuspecting player, spearing, and tape on hands during altercationReference Table 8 – Summary of Match Penalties, NHL, 2013, p. 132-133 must be called as a match penalty if injuries occur; under IIHF rules, kneeingRule 538 – Kneeing, IIHF, 2010, pp. 81 and checking to the head or neck areaRule 540 – Checking to the Head or Neck Area, IIHF, 2010, pp.
Nemanja Vidić reduced the deficit to one goal in the 73rd minute, but it was not enough to wrest the trophy from Zenit's grasp, as they became the first Russian team to win the competition. The sending-off of Paul Scholes for handball in the 90th minute resulted in him missing Manchester United's opening game in their defence of the Champions League, a home tie against Villarreal. This was Zenit's first appearance in the competition, while Manchester United had appeared twice before, in 1991 and 1999; their first appearance finished in a 1–0 win over Red Star Belgrade, while their most recent appearance was a 1–0 loss to Lazio, the last winners of the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup to compete in the UEFA Super Cup.
There even were rallies sending off the debating teams to matches, but the debates never attained the broad appeal that athletics enjoyed. One reason may be that debates do not have a clear winner, as is the case in sports, and that scoring is subjective. In addition, with late 19th-century concerns about the impact of modern life on the human body, athletics offered hope that neither the individual nor the society was coming apart.Roberta J. Park, "Muscle, Mind, and 'Agon:' Intercollegiate Debating and Athletics at Harvard and Yale, 1892–1909," Journal of Sport History 1987 14(3): 263–285 In 1909–10, football faced a crisis resulting from the failure of the previous reforms of 1905–06 to solve the problem of serious injuries.
Windass hit the crossbar before he was substituted in the final minute of the game as his new team won 2–1. Following the sending off of regular goalkeeper Greg Fleming in Oldham's game at Leicester City on 7 February, and with no substitute keeper, Windass went in goal and kept a clean sheet for 40 minutes, with the game ending in a 0–0 draw. His performance in goal led him to being named as Football League One's goalkeeper of the week. On 14 February, Windass scored his first goal for Oldham in a 2–1 victory over Northampton Town—his 200th career league goal, which he celebrated by revealing a T-shirt printed with "200", earning him a yellow card.
Lukaku continued to be in a regular in the first team at Oostende despite being absence on two occasions, including his sending off against Gent on 25 January 2015. In his first permanent season at the club, Lukaku went on to make thirty appearances in all competitions. In the 2015–16 season, Lukaku started the season well when he set up one of the goals, in a 3–1 win over Mechelen in the opening game of the season, followed up by scoring his first goal for the club, in a 2–1 win over Westerlo, which he was named Team of the Week. Lukaku continued to be in the first team until he was absence from late-2015, due to injuries.
Between January 1988 and October 1990 he did not miss a match; his run of 124 games only ended after a sending- off at Bradford City. In 1992–93 Stewart was named as the club's player of the season (despite conceding more than 100 goals), but a pre-match injury at Scarborough in September 1993 sidelined him for the remainder of the following season. Stewart was allowed to join Northampton Town in July 1994, but ended the season playing at Wembley Stadium for Chesterfield in the Football League Division Three playoff final against Bury (while on loan with the Saltergate club). He helped Chesterfield to a 2–0 victory and promotion, and returned to Chester in the summer of 1995.
On 21 September, versatile full–back Joe Edwards, who had a loan spell with the club last season, resigned from Bristol City on loan. Yeovil's dismal form continued with another home defeat this time a 1–0 reverse against Sheffield United, on 22 September. On 25 September, Rohan Ince returned to Chelsea following an unsuccessful loan spell, but signed 6 ft 6in defender Dan Burn from Fulham on a youth loan deal for an initial month . Despite taking a sixth minute lead through a Gavin Williams penalty against Preston North End more poor defending and the sending off of midfielder Ed Upson led to a second half turnaround and a 3–2 defeat, with debutante Dan Burn scoring at both ends.
The referee was also the centre of a controversial decision when he dismissed Tommy Coyle and Karl Fitzpatrick after Fitzpatrick struck Coyle after the hooker had delivered a loose high tackle which Widnes Head Coach Paul Cullen said wasn't a sending off offence. Fitzpatrick was then involved in a further incident when he threw his sports drink into a section of Widnes supporters before heading down the tunnel to the dressing room. As a result of the red card Fitzpatrick could miss the start of the Super League season through suspension. Salford put points on the board early on after Fitzpatrick went over the line after only two minutes of play and again a few moments later for his second.
On 25 October 2015, the match between Tabuan Muda and Indera SC was initially ruled as a 3-0 walkover to Tabuan Muda after a third sending- off of an Indera player. However, this was against tournament rules (based on the Laws of the Game) which ruled that a match cannot continue with seven players in a team, and the referee of that match was deemed to have made an error of judgment. The match was scheduled to be replayed on 22 November, but this time Tabuan Muda did not field enough players for the match and thus resulted in a 3-0 walkover to Indera SC. Tabuan Muda were retrospectively fined BND$500 for their no-show in a statement by NFABD on 9 April 2016.
In rugby union, the "99" call was a policy of simultaneous retaliation by the Lions during their 1974 tour to South Africa. The tour was marred by on-pitch violence, which the match officials did little to control and the relative absence of cameras compared to the modern game made citing and punishment after the fact unlikely. Lions' captain Willie John McBride therefore instigated a policy of "one in, all in" - that is, when one Lion retaliated, all other Lions were expected to join in the melee or hit the nearest Springbok. By doing so, the referee would be unable to identify any single instigator and so would be left with the choice of sending off all or none of the team.
In the 2015–16 season, Mackay continued to rehabilitate his hip following an operation and missed the first two matches to the season, as well as, missing out two Europa League matches before returning to the bench against Ross County on 11 August 2015. Mackay made his return in the first team as captain in the next match against Dundee on 15 August 2015. Following this, Mackay remained in the first team and as captain until his sending off for second bookable offence, in a 1–0 win over Inverness CT on 24 October 2015. His form led him signing a one-year contract extension on 23 November 2015 and then scored his first goal of the season, in a 3–2 win over Ross County on 5 December 2015.
A sending-off for a clumsy challenge failed to dampen County's wish to extend the loan again, but Birmingham recalled the player at the expiry of the second month so that new manager Alex McLeish could assess him as possible cover during Radhi Jaïdi's absence at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations. On 31 January 2008, Pearce joined Port Vale of League One on loan for an initial period of one month to gain experience at a higher level. This loan spell was disrupted by another red card, this time for two bookings, resulting in a two-game ban which left the player anxious to make amends. This loan was twice extended, up to the maximum permissible 93 days, though an ankle injury cut short his stay with the club.
Leaving the club, though only on a 28-day loan, was goalkeeper Sam Johnson, who went to Conference Premier side Alfreton Town. Not long after their FA Cup triumph at Vale Park, Milton Keynes Dons hosted the Vale and ran out 1–0 following a sending off to Chris Lines. Another two long- term prospects were then added in the form of Ghana youth international Enoch Andoh, who signed an 18-month contract, and former Manchester City striker Alex Nimely. The "Valiants" then ended the month with a 2–2 draw at Gillingham, Brown's 94th-minute equalizer securing a deserved point. After a two-week break Vale hosted Coventry City on 13 December, and went on to lose the game 2–0 after failing to pose much of an attacking threat.
He started the match against Hearts on 10 September, a 1–1 draw in which he played 65 minutes, received a standing ovation, and was the Scottish Express reporter's "calm and creative" man of the match. He made 14 appearances in the SPL, all starts, and scored once, with a curling shot from after three minutes of the 3–2 home defeat against Motherwell. He also experienced his first senior sending-off; after his "surging run" and cross set up a second-minute goal for Jonny Hayes against Dundee United, he was yellow-carded for a tackle on Gary Mackay-Steven that caused a collision in which Davis's teammate Chris Hogg suffered serious knee damage. Another foul on Mackay-Steven in the 83rd minute earned Davis a second yellow card.
United led twice but had to settle for a 2–2 draw, and a Paul McGrath own goal left them trailing at half-time in the replay before fine goals by Bryan Robson and Hughes saw them through. An uneventful final came to life 12 minutes from time when, with the score goalless, Kevin Moran was dismissed by referee Peter Willis for a 'professional foul' on Peter Reid – the first ever sending-off in an FA Cup final. United's ten men held on to force extra time, where they found extra reserves of energy and won the trophy thanks to Whiteside's brilliant curling effort in the 110th minute. United exited the Milk Cup at the third round stage as Everton came from behind to beat them 2–1 at Old Trafford.
The defeat was a first for Guardiola in a finals match and ended his unbeaten streak against Real Madrid since he became first team coach. On 27 April, Barcelona and Real Madrid met at the Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid for the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie. Although Barcelona enjoyed most of the possession throughout the first half of the game, it was not until the sending off of Real Madrid's Pepe that the game swung to Barcelona's favour, with Lionel Messi scoring twice in the closing minutes to give Barcelona a 2−0 first-leg victory. With these two goals, Lionel Messi now has 11 goals in 11 Champions League games and is threatening to set the all- time Champions League record of 14 goals.
" He appeared in the first match of the tournament, a 2–1 defeat to Guinea, but in the next match against the hosts Tunisia, he was sent off, reacting angrily and taking several minutes to leave the pitch. DR Congo went on to lose the match and were eliminated from the tournament. Following his sending off, LuaLua considered giving up international football and criticised the behaviour of the Tunisia players during the match and the organisation of the tournament. He later criticised the national football federation of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Congolese Association Football Federation, blaming them for the poor state of the national side, but said that he would continue to be available for international selection because "I can never turn my back on my country.
At the end of the season, Priso joined AEK on a free transfer, however Valletta agreed to receive a percentage of any future transfer fee. Priso moved to Bulgarian club CSKA Sofia on 19 January 2012, for an undisclosed fee believed to be around €320,000. On 25 March, he received a red card in the 3–0 away win over Lokomotiv Plovdiv in an A Group match after an altercation with Dakson. Priso was subsequently banned for seven matches, two for a red card and five due to engaging in confrontation with local police officers in the aftermath of the sending off. The second ban was later reduced from five to two matches on appeal but Priso left PFC CSKA Sofia by mutual agreement on 12 July 2013.
The following game on 6 April saw Rooney score in a 1–0 away win against Chelsea in the Champions League quarter-final first leg. He followed this goal up with another strike in the semi-final first leg against German side Schalke 04 on 26 April, scoring the second of a 2–0 away win. This was the first time Rooney had returned to the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen since his sending off during the 2006 FIFA World Cup against Portugal. On 14 May 2011, Rooney scored a penalty for United to equalise in a 1–1 draw against Blackburn at Ewood Park in the penultimate game of the Premier League season – enough to secure a record 19th top division title for United, and giving Rooney his fourth Premier League title winner's medal.
On 9 September 2006, Rimini gained the national news after having gained a shocking 1–1 home draw against Juventus F.C., with Argentine attacking midfielder Adrián Ricchiuti scoring the equaliser, despite a sending off for Rimini midfielder Domenico Cristiano soon after the 1–0 Juventus lead. They even reached the top of Serie B by early 2007, but at the end of that season they were ranked 5th behind Juventus, Napoli, Genoa and Piacenza. Two years later, Rimini Calcio has been relegated to Lega Pro Prima Divisione after losing the play-out against the former Ancona. In the season 2010–11 it would have to play again in the Italian 3rd level championship, but in the spring of 2010 the former ownership left, and nobody took over in the society.
In 2006, Shamsul was selected by FIFA as one of the official referees for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, only the second time a Singaporean had taken part in a FIFA World Cup after George Suppiah in 1974, also held in Germany (then West Germany). Shamsul took charge of the group stage game between Trinidad and Tobago and Sweden, brandishing the first red card of the tournament to Trinidad and Tobago's Avery John. He also officiated the group stage game between Mexico and Angola, sending off Angola's André Macanga, becoming the first referee of the tournament who sends off two players. His appointment for the Mexico v Angola saw Shamsul turning into the first Singaporean to handle more than one match at a World Cup Finals.
Despite his sending off, a few days later, Vittek was injured after suffering pain on his knee, resulting in him being out of action throughout the rest of 2007 and was expected not to be available until January despite the operation being a success. After the injury time, his return was delayed due to the flu. The long forced break was also responsible for the fact that he was never used in the 2007–08 UEFA Cup. On 1 March 2008, Vittek began to make his first appearance for the club since his injury, coming on as a substitute in a 2–1 loss against Hannover 96 and 33 days later on 5 April, Vittek scored his first goal (and only goal) of the season in a 3–1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.
One of the "geese" who found himself willy-nilly in the Xiaoxiang was Zhang Yue, Duke of Yan (燕), sometimes known as the "Mighty Brush of Yan", for his literary talents. He was also on- and-off one of the top officials under three reigning monarchs. In and out of favor Zhang Yue was exiled as far as Qinzhou, on the Gulf of Tonkin. In a parallel couplet, in his poem "South of the mountains sending off an official", Zhang explicitly compares and contrasts himself to an autumn goose: but when spring comes he finds himself still stuck south of the mountain ranges which separate him from the capital and the main area of Chinese civilization at the time, while the other geese get to go back north (Murck, 76; and note 17, 313).
Steven Gerrard has spoken of his anguish over the slip in the pivotal Chelsea game, saying it was "even tougher than what people probably think it was". The other key moments cited as playing a part in Liverpool falling short of the title include Raheem Sterling incorrectly having a goal disallowed at Manchester City's Etihad Stadium despite being on-side by over a metre; Kolo Touré passing the ball to Victor Anichebe, allowing West Bromwich Albion to earn a draw on 2 February; and Jordan Henderson's 93rd minute sending-off (and three-match ban) in the home game versus Manchester City, which Liverpool's manager Brendan Rodgers thought was "a huge miss for us" because Liverpool "couldn't replace Jordan". The season was the first since 1995-96 season without Jamie Carragher.
He became the first player at the club to be contracted to play at the club's new Falmer Stadium when he signed a new contract on 12 December 2008. Elphick then scored his first league goal, in a 1–1 draw against Northampton Town on 24 February 2009. Despite being suspended in October and injury, which he played with an injured ankle since December, Elphick finished the 2008–09 season, making 44 appearance and scoring twice in all competitions. In the 2009–10 season, Elphick was in central–defence when the club conceded twelve goals in four matches and in a 4–2 loss against Stockport County on 22 August 2009, he was sent–off alongside Hawkins, in which newly Manager Russell Slade said Elphick's sending off was unlucky.
Higginbotham joined Southampton's Championship rivals Stoke City on 3 August 2006 for an initial £225,000 fee, and quickly cemented a regular place in Tony Pulis's starting line-up. He began 2006–07 at left-back, but soon established himself at centre-back after initially filling in for Clint Hill following Hill's sending off at Wolverhampton Wanderers on 23 September 2006. Pulis gave Stoke a reputation as a "Battersea Dogs Home" club, and Higginbotham proved to be a typical signing in this regard as he felt unwanted at Southampton and said that his career had been reinvigorated by the move to the Britannia Stadium. Stoke went seven games without conceding a goal, and during this run Higginbotham scored the only goal of the game against local rivals West Bromwich Albion after deposing Carl Hoefkens as the club's penalty taker.
Both they and Lancashire rivals Preston will play at this level next season for the first time in their histories. 18 May 1985: Manchester United win the FA Cup for the sixth time, beating Everton 1–0 thanks to a goal by Norman Whiteside in extra time. United played with only 10 men following the 77th minute dismissal of defender Kevin Moran for a foul on Peter Reid, the first ever sending-off in an FA Cup final. 20 May 1985: After sinking as low as 20th earlier in the season, Liverpool clinch the runners-up spot with a 3–0 win at West Ham in their penultimate League match. 23 May 1985: An 84th minute goal by Brian Kilcline gives Coventry a dramatic 1–0 win over Luton and edges them closer to First Division safety.
Astori then helped the club kept three clean sheets between 7 October 2012 and 28 October 2012. But he was suspended on two occasions, including his sending off for a second bookable offence, in a 3–1 los against Juventus on 21 December 2012. In the January transfer window, Astori was linked with a move to Premier League side Southampton, but the move fell through and he stayed at the club. Astori was once again sent–off for the second time for a second bookable offence, in a 1–1 draw against AC Milan on 10 February 2013. He then captained for Cagliari for the first time in his career against Napoli on 21 April 2013, as they lost 3–2. Despite being sidelined throughout the 2012–13 season, Astori continued to regain his first team place, playing in the centre–back position.
In recognition of his achievements with the under-20 side, senior manager José Pékerman gave Messi his first call-up for a friendly against Hungary on 17 August 2005. Aged 18, Messi made his senior debut for Argentina in the Ferenc Puskás Stadium when he came on in the 63rd minute, only to be sent off after two minutes for a perceived foul against Vilmos Vanczák, who had grabbed his shirt; Messi had struck the defender with his arm while trying to shake him off, which the referee interpreted as an intentional elbowing, a contentious decision. Messi was reportedly found weeping in the dressing room after his sending-off. He returned to the team on 3 September in their World Cup qualifier defeat to Paraguay, which he had declared his "re-debut" ahead of the match.
After being told he would not be retained by the "Saddlers", he was due to sign a contract at Port Vale in June 2011, but failed a medical due to a shoulder injury. Regardless of this he signed a six- month deal with the club the following month. He aimed to regain his fitness, win a first team place, and thereby earn a longer stay at Vale Park. He quickly managed to achieve the first two of these goals by October, as he started nine of Vale's first fourteen games of the season. He achieved the third target in December, signing a contract lasting until the end of the 2011–12 season, having already made eighteen appearances in league and cup. However his next contribution to Vale's campaign would be his 64th minute sending off at Southend United, following a second bookable offence.
On 25 August 2010, Cudicini saw his first official action for the club in nearly a year as a half-time replacement for the injured Gomes in the second leg of Tottenham's UEFA Champions League play-off round tie against Young Boys of Switzerland. Three days later, he started against Wigan Athletic in the Premier League at White Hart Lane but was criticised for conceding the Latics' winning goal scored by Hugo Rodallega. Despite putting in some consistently good performances for Spurs, he was again benched in favour of Gomes for the Champions League group stage match against Twente on 29 September. He was an eighth-minute replacement for Luka Modrić after Gomes' sending-off against Internazionale on 20 October, but was powerless to stop the defending Champions League winners from scoring three times in a 4–3 loss at the San Siro.
The "Battle of Old Trafford" was a Premier League match played on Sunday, 21 September 2003 between Manchester United and Arsenal. The name was later applied to the same fixture during the following season. The final result, a 0–0 draw, turned out to be significant for Arsenal as they went on to finish the league season without a single defeat, something that had only been achieved once before in English football, by Preston North End in 1888–89. The highlights of the match included the sending-off of Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira for a second bookable offence, for an incident that also brought about a booking for Manchester United centre-forward Ruud van Nistelrooy, and the decision by referee Steve Bennett to award Manchester United a penalty kick in the last minute of the match.
The game was highly controversial with members of the Italian team, most notably striker Francesco Totti and coach Giovanni Trapattoni, suggesting a conspiracy to eliminate Italy from the competition. Trapattoni even obliquely accused FIFA of ordering the official to ensure a Korean victory so that one of the two host nations would remain in the tournament. The most contentious decisions by the game referee Byron Moreno were an early penalty awarded to South Korea (saved by Buffon), a golden goal by Damiano Tommasi ruled offside, and the sending off of Totti after being presented with a second yellow card for an alleged dive in the penalty area. FIFA President Sepp Blatter stated that the linesmen had been a "disaster" and admitted that Italy suffered from bad offside calls during the group matches, but he denied conspiracy allegations.
In sports, an ejection (also known as dismissal, sending-off, or disqualification) is the removal of a participant from a contest due to a violation of the sport's rules. The exact violations that lead to an ejection vary depending upon the sport, but common causes for ejection include unsportsmanlike conduct, violent acts against another participant that are beyond the sport's generally accepted standards for such acts, abuse against officials, violations of the sport's rules that the contest official deems to be egregious, or the use of an illegal substance to better a player's game. Most sports have provisions that allow players to be ejected, and many allow for the ejection of coaches, managers, or other non-playing personnel. The decision to eject a participant usually lies with one or more officials present at the contest (e.g.
The Spanish Reconquista of this region was carry out by King James I of Aragon, it was no easy because of the important resistance put by the Muslim leader named Al Azraq whose troops even kill some king knights there. When the conquest was managed by the Christians this territories became part of the Rugat Baron properties given to Lord Bellvis till 1499, year in which were bought by the Duke of Gandia who keep a manor there, some parts of it still remain. Since then the town was named Castelló del Duc, the inhabitants were in the great majority moorish (moriscos), because of that in 1609 when King Felipe III sending off the moorish people from Spain, Castelló became underpopulated. Castelló remains in the Duke states till the nobility dominion abolition with the 1812 Cadiz Constitution.
Amid interest reported from Serie B teams, Palermo loaned the 19-year-old Micai to Lega Pro Prima Divisione (third-tier) club Como for 2012–13. Mangia, by then coach of the Italy's under-21 team, felt that this would be a critical season for the player, one in which he needed to add self- control to his technical abilities. He missed the first four matches of Como's season serving a suspension for the sending-off against Inter, and then replaced Filippo Perucchini in the starting eleven to make his senior debut on 7 October 2012 in a 2-2 draw at home to Lecce. He remained in the starting eleven for the first half of the season, and Perucchini regained the position for the second half, with Micai on the bench; he played 14 matches in league competition.

Trapattoni even obliquely accused FIFA of ordering the official to ensure a Korean victory so that one of the two host nations would remain in the tournament. On 29 January 1206, Pope Innocent III was so dissatisfied with the administration of the diocese of Ivrea, that he appointed the Bishop of Vercelli, the Abbot of Tileto, and the priest Albert of Mantua to demand the resignation of Bishop Giovanni because he was insufficient to the task (cum sit insufficiens et inutilis). The Pope ordered that, if he did not resign voluntarily, seeing that charges of simony and neglect (dilapidatione ac symonia) had been proven, they were to depose him.Gabotto, II, p. 216. When the new bishop, Pietro, who had been elected in accord with a mandate sent by the Pope to the Archbishop of Milan and the Chapter of Ivrea, arrived in Ivrea, his safety was so threatened that he fled and went into hiding, sending off a letter to Pope Innocent about his situation.
On 4 November, Yeovil's under-18 side defeated Newport County 1–0 in the first round of the FA Youth Cup. The following day Yeovil faced National League side Solihull Moors in the FA Cup first round. Despite taking a 2–0 lead with goals from Ryan Hedges and Otis Khan, after the sending off of midfielder Kevin Dawson, Solihull fought back to earn a replay. Yeovil then traveled to the Madejski Stadium for their final group stage game in the EFL Trophy to play Reading U23s, second half goals from substitutes Tom Eaves and François Zoko secured qualification to the second round of the competition. On 10 November, the club confirmed that striker Izale McLeod has agreed to the mutual termination of his contract on personal grounds having only made six appearances for the club since signing in August.
In the tournament, he scored an injury time goal against Ethiopia in their second group game, securing a 4–0 victory for his country. Burkina Faso advanced out of the group stage and into the quarter-finals of the competition where they faced Togo on 3 February, and Pitroipa scored the only goal of the game in the 105th minute to send the Stallions into the semi-finals. Pitroipa was controversially sent off in the semi-final game of the competition against Ghana, when he was booked for simulation in the 117th minute while it appeared that he had been fouled in the penalty box. The Stallions overcame his sending off and won 3–2 in the penalty shoot-out after the game had finished 1–1 after extra time, booking the country's first ever trip to the African Cup of Nations final.
Retaining his first-team place in 2009–10, he was transfer listed in late September 2009, along with the entire Port Vale squad, after manager Micky Adams saw his team slip to a third consecutive defeat. However, by the end of October 2009 he had played in the opening 18 matches of the season, picking up a goal on the way, and was confident of earning a new contract by the season's end. On 12 December 2009, he received the first sending off of his career, following a professional foul on Northampton Town's Adebayo Akinfenwa. This brought to an end his run of 29 consecutive starts, and kept him out of the team for the next six weeks, as manager Micky Adams switched his tactics during McCombe's absence, moving from a 3–5–2 to 4–4–2 formation.
Soldado represented Spain at all its youth levels, scoring a total of 26 goals. He was first called up to the first team in June 2007 for two UEFA Euro 2008 qualifiers, against Latvia and Liechtenstein, playing in both; he did not make it to the finals in Switzerland and Austria, however, as the nation emerged victorious. On 29 February 2012, after nearly five years of absence, Soldado returned to the national team: he came on as a substitute for Fernando Llorente at half-time of a friendly with Venezuela in Málaga, scoring twice after only seven minutes on the pitch; afterwards, he won a penalty and the sending off of Fernando Amorebieta, but missed the ensuing attempt, only to close the score at 5–0 in the 83rd minute. Manager Vicente del Bosque selected Soldado for the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup squad.
Olympique de Marseille returned to the UEFA Champions League for the first time in four years, and in spite of going out in the group stage, the side made headlines in the UEFA Cup, knocking Liverpool, Internazionale and Newcastle United out on the way to the final, where the sending off of goalkeeper Fabien Barthez and the converted penalty kick from Valencia's Vicente saw Valencia eventually edge the game. In the domestic campaign, Marseille endured a disappointing campaign, where manager Alain Perrin was replaced by José Anigo early on, following the inability to hang onto the top teams. The end result was seventh, missing out even on UEFA Cup qualification, in spite of having the French player of the season in Didier Drogba in the team. The Ivorian striker netted 19 league goals and was instrumental to OM's fortunes in Europe, and following the season he was sold to Chelsea.
By the end of the siege, Townshend's men were living on five ounces of bread/per day and a slice of mule meat. Townshend grew increasingly desperate as the siege went on, at one time sending off a message claiming that if Kut fell, it would be a worse defeat than Yorktown, maintaining that the entire Islamic world would rally for the Ottomans if he had to surrender and this would be the beginning of the end of the British Empire.Galbraith, John "No Man's Child: The Campaign in Mesopotamia, 1914–1916" pages 358–385 from The International History Review, Volume 6, Issue # 3, August 984 page 358 In March 1916, the Ottomans began particular heavy bombardments of Kut, and they were seen unloading mysterious canisters from a barge, which everyone assumed was poison gas from Germany.Knight, Paul The British Army in Mesopotamia, 1914–1918, Jefferson: McFarland, 2013 page 73.
"The Original Rivalry" – Adelaide United v Melbourne Victory The rivalry stems from the traditional cross-border rivalry between sporting teams from South Australia and Victoria but was strengthened by multiple incidents in the 2006–07 season, such as the confrontation between Melbourne Victory captain Kevin Muscat and then Adelaide United coach John Kosmina. The two clubs contested the 2007 and 2009 A-League Grand Finals, with Melbourne winning the 2009 Grand Final 1–0 very controversially against a 10-man Adelaide United. The match will always be marred by the 10th minute sending off of Adelaide United striker Cristiano, which ultimately contributed to the loss. The two clubs were also involved in the first and only occasion in the A-League during the 2008–09 A-League season, where they both finished on the top of the ladder equal on both points and goal difference.
In her 1832 book Domestic Manners of Americans, English writer Frances Trollope, mother of novelist Anthony Trollope, described the city on Moving Day: > On the 1st of May the city of New York has the appearance of sending off a > population flying from the plague, or of a town which had surrendered on > condition of carrying away all their goods and chattels. Rich furniture and > ragged furniture, carts, wagons, and drays, ropes, canvas, and straw, > packers, porters, and draymen, white, yellow, and black, occupy the streets > from east to west, from north to south, on this day. Every one I spoke to on > the subject complained of this custom as most annoying, but all assured me > it was unavoidable, if you inhabit a rented house. More than one of my New > York friends have built or bought houses solely to avoid this annual > inconvenience.
On 4 February 2019, Askey signed a contract with League Two club Port Vale to run until the end of the 2018–19 season; he named Dave Kevan as his assistant. He said joining the club "feels like coming home". The "Valiants" boasted the tenth-largest playing budget in League Two but were underperforming in 18th-place. There was no 'new manager bounce' as Vale fell to four defeats in his first four games, though his coaching methods eventually paid off with an impressive 2–1 win over promotion-chasing Mansfield Town on 9 March. He was named EFL manager of the week after he made two attacking substitutions and reorganized the team's 4–4–3 system to a 4–4–1 formation following a sending off for Leon Legge at Northampton Town on 30 March, inspiring his team to come from 1–0 behind to win 2–1.
However, when keeper Scott Bevan managed to save the resulting penalty from Tubbs, the Gulls spirits were raised again until another penalty was awarded to Crawley just minutes later. Astonishingly, Bevan pulled off his second penalty save of the match, this time from Craig McAllister, to give Torquay another lifeline. Unfortunately, they were unable to capitalise on Bevan's heroics and, despite the sending off of Dean Howell for Crawley in the 83rd minute, the score remained 1-0 until the final whistle. In a match which saw seven bookings in addition to the two dismissals, many Torquay supporters were angered by the tactics employed by Crawley manager Steve Evans (two of Crawley's yellow cards were for time wasting) and their misery was compounded the following day when Evans’ men were rewarded with a trip to Old Trafford to play Manchester United in the Fifth Round draw.
Since signing for Hull City, Myhill's progress won over the Hull fans as he quickly became their first-choice 'keeper and played a key part in two back-to-back promotion seasons, which took Hull up from the old Third Division to the Championship, missing only one league match in the 2004–05 season. In the 2005–06 season, Myhill was again in fine form and again missed only one league game, through suspension after a controversial sending off for handling the ball outside his area in a game against Queens Park Rangers. In one memorable match at Stoke City he saved two penalties, prompting chants of "Myhill for England" from the travelling fans. At the end of the season he was named as the club's Player of the Year, and was the highest-ranked goalkeeper in FourFourTwo magazine's list of the top 50 Football League players.
Barzagli was a member of the Italian under-21 side that conquered the 2004 UEFA European Under-21 Championship under the guidance of manager Claudio Gentile, and he also appeared at the Summer Olympics in Athens that year, winning a bronze medal. He won his first senior international cap for Italy on 17 November 2004, in 1–0 friendly home win against Finland under Italian coach Marcello Lippi. He was called up for the 2006 FIFA World Cup and, while not expecting to play at all, was deployed as a substitute in a 1–0 victory against Australia in the second round, following Marco Materazzi's sending-off. He subsequently appeared again, starting in his side's 3–0 victory over Ukraine in the quarter-finals following Materazzi's suspension and Alessandro Nesta's injury; he appeared for the full 90 minutes in this fixture, and kept clean sheets in both matches.
After close-season signings and an overseas training camp, Rovers made a better than expected start to their first Super League campaign, winning their first two games – Wakefield Trinity at home and Huddersfield away. After suffering a reversal to Harlequins RL, they then had an away win (26–16) at Wigan, followed by a hard- fought victory at home to in-form Leeds, to go joint top of the early season table. However, inconsistent form, injuries and the effects of the first Super League sending-off (after 96 games) saw Rovers slip to near the bottom, despite a historic double away win over Wigan, and beating local rivals Hull at the Millennium Magic weekend. Improved late season results, including the safety-clinching win in the derby against Hull by the shock margin of 6–42 (played at the KC Stadium), ensured Super League status for another campaign.
Nallbani is known in Albania as being a bubbly and extravagant person who likes to make jokes with the Albanian media. During the 2008–2009 season in a heated derby match against his former team, Partizani Tirana Nallbani was booked for handling the ball outside of his area, which angered the Partizani players and fans as they thought that the keeper deserved a sending off for the offence. After the match ended, Nallbani tried to explain in the changing rooms that he did not handle the ball outside his area saying > "I swear on my daughter, I didn't touch the ball with my hand." Nallbani is the father of two children, both of them boys.“Qafsha gocën s’e preka topin me dorë”(in Albanian) The referee Elvis Peza had also not booked Nallbani for a foul in the 55th minute on Partizani's Brazilian striker Paulo Marcel Pereira Merabet.
From 25 April to 4 June, Tomkins scored thirteen tries in seven games for Wigan, including braces against Crusaders and Harlequins in the league and Barrow in the cup, as well as a hat-trick against Hull Kingston Rovers. He scored his second hat-trick of the season against Huddersfield, taking his career total to six. In Wigan's fifth round cup win over Bradford, Gareth Raynor's high tackle left Tomkins unconscious as he was scoring a try, an incident which ended both Raynor's and Tomkins' involvement in the match due to a sending-off, and a head injury respectively. Despite missing part of Wigan's away match to Hull because of a shoulder injury, Tomkins returned from the bench and scored two tries in a 16–30 victory; after the match, Sky Sports reported that he had become a "strong favourite" for the season's Man of Steel award.
He since became a regular in the first team at Dundee. The following season, O'Donnell started his season by scoring a winning goal in extra time, and also set up a goal for Steven Milne in a 2–1 win over Arbroath in the first round of Scottish Challenge Cup. On 10 September 2011, O'Donnell received a red card after a second bookable offence in a 1–0 win over Raith Rovers; three-month later on 17 December 2011, he received a red card after a serious tackle on Iain Vigurs in a 1–1 draw against Ross County. After the match, the club would appeal O'Donnell's sending off The appeal was rejected – making O'Donnell miss three matches as punishment. O'Donnell made his return in a 3–0 win over Livingston on 14 January 2012 and set up the third goal in a match for Nicky Riley.
Regarding his sending-off, Mbappé told reporters after the match, "If I had the chance to do it over again, I would do the same thing. I will apologise to the supporters and everybody, but I cannot tolerate this sort of thing." On 8 October, Mbappé scored four goals in just 13 minutes in a 5–0 home victory over Lyon and became the youngest player (19 years and 9 months) to score four goals in one game in Ligue 1 over the last 45 seasons. On 3 December, Mbappé was the inaugural winner of the Kopa Trophy, which is awarded by France Football to the best player in the world under the age of 21. On 19 January 2019, Mbappé was one of two players (the other being Cavani) to score a hat-trick in a 9–0 win over Guingamp, breaking a record PSG set the previous season.
Though HSV failed to qualify for the second round, they did manage a historic 3–1 win over Juve in the return fixture at the Stadio delle Alpi. In July 2003, HSV won its first trophy in 16 years with a 4–2 defeat of Borussia Dortmund in the DFB-Ligapokal final. In August 2004, HSV was upset in the early rounds of the DFB-Pokal by regional league side SC Paderborn. The match became one of the most infamous in recent football history when it was discovered that referee, Robert Hoyzer, had accepted money from a Croatian gambling syndicate to fix the match, which he did, awarding two penalties to Paderborn and sending off HSV player Émile Mpenza. The resulting scandal became the biggest in German football in over 30 years, and was an embarrassment to the country as it prepared to host the 2006 World Cup.
Birmingham began October with their eighth draw in eleven league matches, away to Brentford, despite Kieftenbeld's second-half red card for an off-the-ball incident involving opponent Neal Maupay. Garry Monk was also sent to the stands for his verbal reaction to the dismissal: he said afterwards that he was expecting Maupay to be booked for feigning injury. Kieftenbeld's sending off was rescinded on appeal, so he was available for the next match, against Rotherham United, in which Jutkiewicz scored his first Birmingham hat-trick. Jutkiewicz continued with goals against Reading and Sheffield Wednesday and an assist for Adams' winning goal at Stoke City in a run of four wins that earned him the Championship Player of the Month award for October and earned Monk a nomination as Championship Manager of the Month as the team rose to ninth place in the table.
Following his release from Doncaster, Greer soon agreed a two-year contract with Swindon Town on a free transfer in July 2009, having impressed after his loan at the club. After officially joining the club, Greer was announced as the club's captain for the 2009–10 season. On 17 May 2010, Greer was shown a straight red card for a high tackle in the play-off 2nd leg versus Charlton Athletic, that Swindon went on to win on penalties. Greer's sending off meant that he was suspended from the play-off final versus Millwall on 29 May 2010. On 10 July 2010, after weeks of speculation and numerous verbal and written approaches for Greer, it was suggested that he would travel down to Brighton & Hove Albion on the following Monday for a medical to agree a move to the Seagulls for a reported fee of £250,000 on a three-year deal.
Spurs rallied late on and struck another equaliser from a Vedran Ćorluka header to earn a point. Following the draw at Bolton, Tottenham travelled to Fratton Park to play Harry Redknapp's former club, Portsmouth. Portsmouth had started the season very poorly and experiencing off-field trouble involving various owners of the club, Tottenham took the lead early in the game on the 29th minute mark with Ledley King powering in a header from a Niko Kranjčar Corner, Spurs doubled their lead on half time with Jermain Defoe sliding the ball home from a Jermaine Jenas through-ball. Portsmouth began to battle in the second half and scored a goal through ex-Tottenham player Kevin- Prince Boateng and following Jermain Defoe's red card for a stamp on Aaron Mokoena, a tense finished ensued, however after the injury time sending off of Michael Brown, Tottenham secured the three points.
Along with news that Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott were to return from injury soon, Arsenal fans were given more to cheer about as a spirited performance following Metersacker's sending off against West Brom lifted the Gunners temporarily up to fourth in the table. Two goals from Tomáš Rosický put Arsenal in a commanding position but a penalty scored by James Morrison on 71 minutes made for a nervy end as Arsenal eventually ran out 2–1 winners at The Hawthorns. Arsenal then started a period of three games in a week against Norwich, as a spirited comeback in the last seven minutes of the match ensured Arsenal went third in the Premier League table. Michael Turner opened the scoring for Norwich from a set piece but a trio of goals (including a controversial penalty) was scored by Arteta, Giroud and Podolski, as the Gunners ran out 3–1 winners.
However, he was quickly dropped by new manager Steve Parkin and persuaded to leave in the summer of 2004. He dropped into non-League football, signing for Conference National side Burton Albion, making 20 appearances in the 2004–05 season, before moving to league rivals Leigh RMI in March 2005, but he could not prevent Leigh's relegation at the end of the season. Simpkins then moved closer to his native Sheffield by linking up with Worksop Town ahead of the 2005–06 season, and spent just over a year with the Tigers, establishing himself as a first-team regular; however, due to his poor disciplinary record, he was released early in the 2006–07 season after a sending-off against Vauxhall Motors. Simpkins then signed for Buxton, but left the club after a change of heart very soon afterwards and instead joined Grantham Town.
He scored his first goal for them against Stoke City on 27 September, adding a second with a stunning left-foot attempt against West Bromwich Albion, scoring from 25 yards in a 3–0 away win. On 1 February 2009, Bosingwa was involved in an incident on the field where he stamped Liverpool player Yossi Benayoun directly in the back, without making any attempt to play the ball. Although referee Mike Riley did not see it, assistant Mo Matadar would later claim to have seen the incident, signalling a foul at the time but subsequently awarding Chelsea a throw-in; in the days following the match, the Football Association claimed that FIFA regulations prevented them from imposing disciplinary sanctions, as no booking or sending off was issued. Bosingwa was banned for three European matches as a result of comments he made about the refereeing of the Champions League semi- finals second leg clash against FC Barcelona (6 May 2009, 1–1 draw in England) on Portuguese television.
Srníček joined newly promoted Premier League side Portsmouth on 1 September 2003 on a free transfer, citing former Newcastle goalkeeper Hislop and Czech teammate Patrik Berger as key influences in his decision. He made his debut for the club in a fourth round League Cup match against South Coast Derby rivals Southampton on 3 December, a 2–0 loss, and made his league debut for the club in a 0–0 draw with Middlesbrough three days later. Having fallen behind Hislop and Harald Wapenaar in the selection, Srníček joined West Ham United in the First Division on a one-month loan deal on 19 February 2004. After making his debut against rivals Millwall as a substitute for Matthew Etherington on 21 March 2004 in a 4–1 defeat, known as the "Mothers' Day Massacre", at The Den, following the sending-off of first- choice goalkeeper, Stephen Bywater, Srníček moved to West Ham on a free transfer, signing a contract until the end of the season.
The two brooms are used only to defend the goals, which rise , , and above the pitch at each end of an elongated octagonal playing field approximately long. 'Corrigan Quidditch', as does the Middlebury version, has its own official rule book but features whimsical offenses including a 'Queensbury' (moving both feet whilst holding the quaffle) and an 'Impermissible' (which allows the offended chaser to run with the quaffle (without incurring a Queensbury offense) and make a 'try' at the goals, defended only by the opposing keeper). Play includes non-participating teams who stand around the pitch and take control of both 'bludgering' players as well as 'sending off' the snitch at irregular intervals during play to allow the seekers (who are kept secret during play) to attempt a game-winning catch. 'Corrigan Quidditch' was the form of play originally covered in the world press during that significant summer when the seventh Harry Potter book (and fifth Harry Potter movie) was released.
However, a headed goal from Stephen Foster and a spectacular individual effort from Jamal Campbell-Ryce, as well as further strikes from substitute Jon Macken and Iain Hume, ended the goal drought and made this their second win of the season; also equaling their best ever result under manager Simon Davey. ;Matchday Eleven – Crystal Palace 3–0 Barnsley Another poor away performance from the Reds saw Crystal Palace ease to victory in this encounter with a first-half penalty from Ben Watson, who scored another in the second half before Shefki Kuqi made it three. ;Matchday Twelve – Barnsley 2–1 Sheffield Wednesday A second home derby win of the season gave the fans something to smile about here, with Iain Hume putting his side in front after just four minutes. The Reds cause was helped with the sending off of Tony McMahon thirty minutes later, and a second-half penalty which Jamal Campbell-Ryce slotted home rendering Leon Clarke's subsequent penalty a mere consolation.
England beat Argentina 1–0 in the last eight, with Geoff Hurst scoring with a header; the match was sullied by the first-half sending off of Argentinian midfielder Antonio Rattín, who refused to leave the pitch after being dismissed for dissent. In contrast to the previous games, the semi-final against Portugal proved to be a fair contest between two sides of talented players eager to attack from the start of the match. Yet there was panic in the buildup to the game as trainer Harold Shepherdson forgot to buy chewing gum, which Banks used to make his hands stickier and better able to handle the ball, and so Shepherdson had to run to a nearby newsagents to purchase gum as the teams were in the tunnel. Bobby Charlton scored two goals, but Portugal made a strong finish and won a penalty on 82 minutes after Jack Charlton handled the ball in the penalty area.
In the third-place match against Chile on 6 July, Messi set-up Agüero's opening goal from a free kick in an eventual 2–1 win, to help Argentina capture the bronze medal; however, he was sent off along with Gary Medel in the 37th minute of play, after being involved in an altercation with the Chilean. Following the match, Messi refused to collect his medal, and implied in a post-match interview that his comments following the semi-final led to his sending off. Messi later issued an apology for his comments, but was fined $1,500 and was handed a one-match ban by CONMEBOL, which ruled him out of Argentina's next World Cup qualifier. On 2 August, Messi was banned for three months from international football and was fined $50,000 by CONMEBOL for his comments against the referee's decisions; this ban meant he would miss Argentina's friendly matches against Chile, Mexico and Germany in September and October.
Wang Hongyou would start is professional career with Zhejiang Greentown in the 2005 league season when he was promoted to their senior team. In the following season he would gain significantly more playing time and was part of the squad that won promotion to the top tier. He would go on to become a vital member of the team and help establish the club in the league until on 5 September 2009 in a league game against Shenzhen FC he was red carded in a 2-1 defeat for violent conduct towards the referee. While he would argue that all he did was pass the ball towards the referee and not throw it at him his behaviour after the sending off where he threw his boots at the referee saw him receive a four match ban and a fine of 20,000 Yuan by the Chinese Football Association. On 17 January 2010 while out with his girlfriend in a taxi he got into an altercation with the driver.
Born in Valence, Drôme, Laville spent the first 10 years of his career with Olympique Lyonnais, and helped them win the Ligue 1 title in 2002 and 2003 as well as the Trophée des Champions in 2002. Laville signed with Premier League club Bolton Wanderers in 2003 and instantly slotted into the first team, forming a successful defensive partnership with Guðni Bergsson, despite a sending off in a memorable game against Arsenal. He later signed permanently for Bolton, but a serious leg injury suffered several games into the 2003–04 season, against Middlesbrough, put him out of action for over a year and effectively ended his top-level playing career as he struggled to regain fitness. After leaving Bolton at the end of the 2004–05 season, Laville eventually returned to fitness and briefly played for Coventry City before returning to France, reuniting with former Bolton teammate, Pierre-Yves André at SC Bastia.
He also won his third Welsh Premier League title as TNS finished 18 points ahead of runners-up Bala Town. Two of his goals came in the final of the Welsh League Cup on 25 January, as the Saints triumphed 3–0 over Bala Town. On 2 May, he appeared as a 71st-minute substitute for Adrian Cieslewicz in the final of the Welsh Cup at Latham Park, which ended in a 2–0 victory over Newtown to secure TNS the domestic treble. On 1 July 2015, he scored his first goal in European competition, as the Saints recorded a 2–1 win at Faroe Islanders B36 Tórshavn in the opening round of qualification. He received the first sending off of his career on 23 October, during stoppage time in a 4–0 win at Aberystwyth Town. He scored 18 goals from 39 appearances in the 2015–16 campaign, helping TNS to a fifth consecutive league title.

For that, he served a three–match suspension; up until his sending off, he was an ever–present player at the club since the start of the season. After returning to the first team from the suspension, Hollands then scored on the last game of the season, in a 3–2 win over Hartlepool United. At the end of the 2011–12, in which saw Charlton Athletic were promoted to the Championship, Hollands made forty–six appearances and scoring eight times in all competitions. In the 2012–13 season, Hollands continued to be a first team regular at the start of the season and provided an assist for Yann Kermorgant to score the second goal in the game, in a 2–1 win over Leicester City on 21 August 2012. Hollands did so again when he set up a goal for Johnnie Jackson to score an equaliser, in a 1–1 draw against Blackburn Rovers on 29 September 2012.
Paráreceived two yellow cards in the match and was sent off. LDU's 4–0 victory over San José qualified them and eliminated Peñarol. Mata began the new season in fine form. He scored the only goal in Manchester United's second game of the Premier League season, a 1–1 draw against Sunderland at Stadium of Light, following it up with a goal against Queens Park Rangers in a 4–0 thumping, which was also Louis van Gaal's first competitive win in charge of United. He was later dropped to the bench for the following two matches, making cameo appearances against Leicester and West Ham, with van Gaal preferring an attacking trinity of Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and new signing Radamel Falcao in both games. Following Rooney's sending off and suspension due to a foul on Stewart Downing in the match against West Ham, Mata was reinstated to the starting lineup, and he started the next match against Everton, a 2–1 win at Old Trafford in which he provided the assist for Ángel Di María's goal.
King's Lynn however went into administration in Autumn 2009. Lloyd was offered rehabilitation at Ilkeston Town (BSN) under Kevin Wilson but did not regain fitness before Ilkeston went into administration in September 2010. In the Cypriot cup quarter-finals, APOEL were drawn to face Cypriot First Division side AEL Limassol. On 5 April 2017, APOEL's coach Thomas Christiansen decided to rest several regular starters as his side held to a goalless draw by AEL Limassol in the first leg of their Cyprus Cup quarter-final meeting. On 19 April 2017, APOEL advanced to the semi-finals of the Cypriot Cup on the away goals rule following a 1–1 draw in Limassol against AEL, despite of playing the whole of the second half with ten men due to Vander's sending off late in the first half. APOEL overcame this disadvantage to score the valuable away goal seven minutes into the second half with David Barral who took the advantage after a sloppy play by AEL defenders, while AEL managed just to pull a goal back nine minutes before the end with a close range header by Mikel Arruabarrena.
The wingspan is about 24 mm. The forewings are bright yellow, streaked throughout longitudinally and obliquely with bright rosy red, narrowly margined around the apex and termen with yellowish brown, which is continued along the costa to the middle, then expanding and diverging obliquely to the dorsum at one- fourth, along which it is produced to the base. In crossing the cell this band is somewhat dilated into the form of a quadrate patch, resting on the middle of the fold and sending off a short branch from its inner and upper angle to the costa at one-third, where it is somewhat dilated, but does not reach the base. A small kidney-shaped ocellate patch of yellowish brown lies at the end of the cell, emitting a short branch to the tornus, and a small tooth-shaped projection is emitted from the dark costal shade at the commencement of the costal cilia.
The most contentious decisions were an early penalty awarded to South Korea (saved by Gianluigi Buffon), a golden goal by Damiano Tommasi ruled offside, and the sending off of Totti, who received a second yellow card for an alleged dive in the penalty area, all ruled by the referee Byron Moreno. Following the team's exit, Italy were criticised in the Italian and International press for their poor performance and ultra-defensive playing style under Trapattoni, who also came under fire in the Italian media for his tactics, which included initially refusing to play two of the team's star playmakers – Alessandro Del Piero and Francesco Totti – alongside one another during the tournament, and substituting a forward – Del Piero – for a holding midfielder – Gennaro Gattuso – in the second half of Italy's round of 16 match, in order to attempt to defend their 1–0 lead against South Korea. Italy went on to secure qualification for UEFA Euro 2004 easily, but once again failed to impress at the tournament itself. They were drawn in Group C with Denmark, Sweden and Bulgaria.
That win, Carlow's first in the Leinster Championship since 2011, set up a marquee match-up with All Ireland Champions Dublin in Portlaoise. Carlow set out to frustrate their more illustrious opponents, and many observers were shocked to see Carlow still within a score at the break; Dublin leading 0-8 to 0-5. There was still just four points between the teams with 22 minutes remaining when Murphy received his second yellow card after a tussle with Jonny Cooper, and Carlow could only manage one more score, eventually losing 0-19 to 0-7 with Murphy contributing one fine first half point (the first score of the game). Though his sending off did not result in a suspension, Carlow (successfully) applied to have one of Murphy's yellow cards rescinded, perhaps in anticipation of further cautions in future games resulting in a suspension. This assumption was well founded, as Murphy found himself receiving two more yellow cards (within 60 seconds of each other) in Carlow's 1st round qualifying game against London in Ruislip.
However, in late March, Compper found himself in an incident with teammate Sejad Salihović at training; the two later resolved their differences. Ahead of the 2011–12 season, Compper was linked with a move away from TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, with La Liga side Sevilla among interested. Despite this, he stayed at the club and started the season, continuing to play in the centre–back position under the new management of Holger Stanislawski. In a 0–0 draw against Bayern Munich on 1 October 2011, Compper's performance was praised by Stanislawski and he was named Man of the Match. He started in every match since the opening game of the season until his sending off in the final minutes of the game after fouling Tomáš Pekhart, in a 2–0 win over Nürnberg on 10 December 2011. At the end of his loan spell with Luton Town manager Gary Brabin decided not to pursue a transfer, explaining his thinking behind the decision he said "Jamie was a fantastic character but hadn't nailed down a place in the squad that was his own, so it makes sense not to pursue it." In April 2012, he was fined £250 by The Football Association for bringing the game into disrepute with comments he made on Twitter, such as one post on 9 April that Luton Town supporters were "40 year old virgins who live wit there [sic] mums". He quit Hayes the following month as he was unhappy with the level of a fine issued to him for a red-card he received in the match at Lincoln City that saw Hayes relegated into the Conference South; he said "I don't think a sending off warrants a week's wages" and that Tony [O'Driscoll, director of football] and Nas Bashir are telling me it's the chairman's decision to fine me.

"Shipbuilding" is a song with lyrics by Elvis Costello and music by Clive Langer. Written during the Falklands War of 1982, Costello's lyrics highlight the irony of the war bringing back prosperity to the traditional shipbuilding areas of Clydeside (Yarrow Shipbuilders), Merseyside (Cammell Laird), North East England (Swan Hunter) and Belfast (Harland and Wolff) to build new ships to replace those being sunk in the war, whilst also sending off the sons of these areas to fight and, potentially, lose their lives in those same ships. According to Robert Sandall, the best version of the song is the one recorded and released as a single by English singer-songwriter Robert Wyatt in August 1982 a few months after the Falklands War, although it was not a hit until it was re-released eight months later on the first anniversary of the conflict. In September 2013, Elvis Costello and the Roots released an answer song written in the perspective of the other side of the conflict, called "Cinco Minutos con Vos" ("Five Minutes with You").
Shortly after, Tasci signed a contract that ran until 2010 with the club. Throughout the 2006–07 season, Tasci received a handful of first team appearances, playing in either the right–back and centre–back positions for the side. However, he was soon plagued with suspension following his sendingoff, in a 4–1 loss against 1. FC Nürnberg on 27 January 2007 and injuries. However, in the final of the DFB-Pokal, he came on for Sami Khedira in extra time when Stuttgart lost 3–2 to Nürnberg. Reflecting about Tasci's season, Manager Armin Veh said of his involvement with the club: "He is a big surprise and with his 20 years plays well beyond his years." At the end of the 2006–07 season, Tasci had made thirty–one appearances and scoring two times in all competitions.
Smith's return was marked by a goal for York with a header from Michael Rankine's left-footed cross in a 3–0 home win over Rotherham in the replay on 17 November 2010. He signed for the club permanently on 5 January 2011 on a one-and-a-half-year contract that would expire in the summer of 2012. His first appearance after joining permanently came three days later in a 2–0 defeat away to Premier League team Bolton Wanderers in the FA Cup third round, which was the first time Smith had faced top-flight opposition in his career. After goalkeeper Michael Ingham's 15th-minute sending off away to Luton Town on 18 January 2011, Smith played in goal until half-time when being replaced by Greg Young, conceding four goals in a 5–0 defeat. He received a two-match suspension after picking up his 10th booking of the season in a 2–1 home win over Mansfield on 15 March 2011, meaning he missed York's matches against Cambridge and Histon.
After his return to Southampton, he seemed to have re-established himself in the team being virtually ever-present from mid-December onwards, including appearing in 5 FA cup matches before Saints were eliminated by the team they had beaten in the previous season's final, Manchester United, who went on to win the 1977 FA Cup. He was sent off in the replay on 8 March against United after a series of bad-tempered exchanges with Jimmy Greenhoff, scorer of United's 2 goals. On 16 March 1977, Saints were playing Anderlecht in the European Cup-winners' Cup when Jim made a mistake in defence allowing Van der Elst to get past him to score the winning goal. This error, coupled with the sending-off, led to a falling-out with manager Lawrie McMenemy, who was intent on a wholesale re-building of the team in order to gain promotion back to Division 1, and Jim made his final appearance for Saints away to Nottingham Forest on 22 March 1977.
Donaldson playing for York City in 2007 On 18 December 2006, he rejected the offer of a new contract at York, meaning he would be out of contact at the end of the season. Scunthorpe United and Peterborough United Director of Football Barry Fry both watched him in December 2006. Fry tabled a £100,000 bid for Donaldson, but this failed to meet York's valuation and they halted their bid at this amount. He was reportedly given a £500,000 transfer valuation by York in January 2007. A cash-plus-player offer from League Two club Accrington Stanley for Donaldson was rejected in January 2007, which according to York was £25,000 and was termed as an "embarrassment" by York manager McEwan, and Accrington then upped their bid to a six-figure fee, but were told that Donaldson was not for sale. Donaldson was suspended for three matches following his 51st-minute sending off for using his elbow in York's 2–1 defeat away to Kidderminster Harriers on 20 January 2007.
In his prime Eto'o was extremely quick and possessed excellent dribbling ability with close ball control Eto'o is a fast, strong, and energetic forward, who is known for his stamina, work-rate, ability in the air, and his accurate finishing ability both with his head and feet. During the return leg of the Champions League semi-final match against Barcelona, Eto'o demonstrated his workrate and versatility by playing as an attacking full-back following Thiago Motta's controversial sending-off.
