The single reached number 2 in the UK Singles Charts on 27 April 1996 and was the first in a run of five consecutive releases to be top ten hits. It spent a total of 14 weeks in the chart, with 7 weeks in the UK Top 40, being the best performing single by the band, along with "Your Love Alone Is Not Enough". It has achieved Silver status in the UK (200,000 copies). With "A Design for Life" the band also began a run of 11 years where all their singles until 2007 charted within the Top 20 in the UK, with the single "Indian Summer" from their eighth studio album Send Away the Tigers breaking the run by peaking at number 22.

On 29 March, Easter Sunday, Huguenots returning from a church service outside the walls were set upon by boatmen from the nearby settlement of Paron. Crufts hosts range of other competitions, including agility, obedience and flyball. The Battle of Acerrae was fought during the Social War between Roman forces under Lucius Julius Caesar, not to be confused with the triumvir, and rebel forces under Gaius Papius Mutilus. To ward off the misfortunes believed to occur during a yakudoshi, individuals may engage in prayer to Shinto or Buddhist deities, attend rituals, purchase protective charms, make pilgrimages, exchange gifts, or hold special festivities, usually at the beginning or end of the year. An anthropologist reported in 1955 that to send away the danger associated with a yakudoshi, individuals sometimes abandoned a personal item such as a comb or a writing brush at a crossroads, and that in one region, men wore underwear in the lucky color of red during their forty-second year. A yakudoshi festival is held annually at Hachiman shrines on January 18 and 19. During the two-day period, people entering either a maeyaku or yakudoshi year attend the shrine to undergo a harae ritual called .

A free download of a song entitled "Underdogs" from the album was made available through the group's website on 19 March 2007. The first official single released from Send Away the Tigers was "Your Love Alone Is Not Enough", which features Cardigans vocalist Nina Persson and according to the band they always had a duet in mind, seeing that the lyrics have a question/reply style to it. According to singer Bradfield, the title was the last line of a suicide note left by the friend of someone close to the group. The second single, "Autumnsong", and a third, "Indian Summer", were released in August. ″Indian Summer″ peaked at number 22, making it the first Manics single not to chart in the Top 20 since 1994's "She Is Suffering".

An old mining tradition was for the horn of a tup (a male sheep, a ram) to be sent to the surface with every twentieth waggon of coal, as a way of counting the loads. A further tradition was that the last corve or corf (being a basket, tub, waggon or other container full) to be taken to the surface ion the last day of the year, also called "the tup" involved great ceremony. The young boys working underground would light candles and after the tup’s horn had been affixed to the top of the coalk, the load was "buss’d" or "drest" when the lads placed their candles into the coal. The whole lighted tup was then, on instruction from the onsetter of "send away" would be raised to the surface.

During his career Cunningham designed a number of churches in Gothic and Romanesque styles. It is slightly unclear at what point the decision was made to change the style of the Camden church from Classical to Gothic. Manic Street Preachers at the First Direct Arena, Leeds in May 2018 In February 2017 the band revealed a teaser trailer for a new documentary entitled Escape from History, charting the band's journey from The Holy Bible, through to the disappearance of lyricist and guitarist Richey Edwards, to the huge success of Everything Must Go. The documentary aired on Sky Arts on 15 April. The band also stated that they would release a new album later in that year. The band released a special edition of their album Send Away the Tigers on 12 May. 2017 marks the 10th anniversary of the record and the Manics said that "this is a very important album" in their career. The special edition featured a remastered album as well as B-sides and rarities spread over two discs, plus a DVD which features the band's 2007 Glastonbury performance, rehearsal footage, an album track-by- track, and promo videos. On 17 November 2017, the band announced that their thirteenth album, Resistance Is Futile, would be released on 13 April 2018.

David James Eringa (born 30 July 1971 in Brentwood, Essex) is an English record producer, sound and mix engineer. Eringa has worked and played on albums by artists including Manic Street Preachers, Idlewild, Wilko Johnson and Roger Daltrey, The Who, Gyroscope, BB Brunes, Calogero, Kylie Minogue, Tom Jones, 3 Colours Red, South and Nine Black Alps. His association with the Manic Street Preachers stretches through their entire career starting with tea making duties on their first single "Motown Junk", playing keyboards on "Generation Terrorists", producing & mixing "Gold Against The Soul", playing keyboards live with the band 1993–94, producing & mixing two tracks on "Everything Must Go" ("Australia" & "No Surface All Feeling"), producing & mixing half of "This Is My Truth, Tell Me Yours" (including No. 1 single "If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next"), producing & mixing the first No. 1 of the millennium ("Masses Against The Classes"), producing & mixing "Know Your Enemy", & producing "Send Away The Tigers". He also has a long association with Idlewild producing & mixing "100 Broken Windows", "The Remote Part" & "Make Another World", as well as contributing to "Warnings & Promises" and more recently "Post Electric Blues".

Li Qi was the fourth son of Li Xiong, Cheng Han's founding emperor, by his concubine Consort Ran, but was raised by Li Xiong's wife Empress Ren. When he was young, he was known for being intelligent and charismatic. When Li Xiong asked his sons to scout the population for talented people to serve as officials, Li Qi was the most successful for finding talents, so many Cheng Han officials were people who were discovered by Li Qi. Li Xiong had named his brother Li Dang (李蕩)'s son Li Ban as his crown prince and heir, but after Li Xiong's death in 334 and succession by Li Ban, Li Qi and his brother Li Yue (李越) were disgruntled, and they secretly plotted against Li Ban. Li Ban's younger brother Li Wu (李玝), who had heard rumors of the conspiracy, suggested to Li Ban that he immediately send Li Yue and Li Qi away from the capital, back to their defense posts, but Li Ban did not have the heart to send away Li Xiong's sons before their father was buried.
