Shows like Luke Cage, Elementary, 9-93-1, Lethal Weapon, and How to Get Away with Murder had the highest amounts of POC CJPs committing wrongdoing, while shows like Law & Order: SVU, The Blacklist, Blindspot, and Blue Bloods showed characters endorsing illegal practices most often.

But born out of frustration with how overwhelmingly white the punk scene can still feel today, a group known as the DIY Diaspora Punx collective joined forces to set up the UK's first music festival created by and for people of colour (AKA POC).

On the night of February 17, youths from different communities inside Malakal POC fought one another, using weapons that, as described to me by camp residents and U.N. officials, people in the camp had smuggled past security at official gates or through cuts in the fencing.

Instead she blamed her lapse in judgment on a late-night joint and apologized to "anyone POC" who may have been offended—ignoring the fact that "nigger" is not a historical slur leveled against an undefined "people of color" but one bound up in this country's painful history of anti-blackness.

Most larger companies want to find ways to use more modern tools, but they are often stuck for a variety of reasons including lack of internal resources to run a PoC, regulatory hurdles around using customer data for testing purposes and skepticism that the startup can deliver what it's promising.

With the first few weeks of classes now firmly underway, I spoke to six current and former PoC students about how their time in college has affected their personal identities; how they navigated "othering"; and asked for the advice they would give themselves if they could do it all again.

By the time it expanded, to Atlanta, Paris in 2015, then London in 2016, Afropunk had earned a reputation as a place for black and POC misfits and radicals and distressingly well-dressed people to come together and celebrate being part of a subculture that was hard to pin down or name.

After a contentious piece ("Why I'm Quitting UCB, and Its Problem with Diversity") made the rounds on social media, a former U.C.B. diversity coördinator, Keisha Zollar, responded on Facebook, expressing her wish that "POC, women, the LGBTQ+ community, people over 35, and persons with disabilities" be better represented at U.C.B. The organization made headlines last month, when a U.C.B. performer in New York was accused of sexual assault by multiple women, and banned from the school and the theatre.
