It included 31 buildings. Of these, 22 were permanent masonry and 12 housed patients. Most were connected by enclosed walkways. Patient census averaged about 220 at any one time with peak period of occupancy of nearly 260.

Throughout the period of occupancy by the Petrie family the gardens at Murrumba Homestead were well- known throughout Southeast Queensland for their plants and bird-life, attracting many visitors (including Sir William Macgregor, Governor of Queensland from December 1909 to July 1914).

Other parts of the market have since been converted into other uses such as the fish market whose external walls are still intact but contained within are apartments and flats. However the former market hall after a period of occupancy has remained derelict since 2008.

Gilling Castle is on a hill overlooking the village. It began as a towerhouse built by Thomas Etton sometime in the fourteenth century. In 1492, it passed to the Fairfax family and remained in their hands until 1793. Most of the castle we see today dates from their period of occupancy.

Behind the main hall were the kitchens. Beyond the main building of Wycoller Hall was a courtyard with coach-house and stables. Gardens were laid out in Henry Owen Cunliffe's period of occupancy, as was a cock pit. During the last years of occupancy the house was divided in two and lived in by two different families.

The interior also has some Colonial Revival features, including a fireplace in the front parlor with flanking Doric pilasters. The house was built in 1900-01 by J.W. O'Brian, and its left side was rented in 1905 by Calvin Coolidge. The Coolidges occupied that unit until 1930. This period of occupancy coincides with Coolidge's political rise from city council to Governor of Massachusetts, then Vice President and President.

The sales notices indicated that the houses attracted respectable tenants, tradesmen rather than labourers, and they enjoyed considerable period of occupancy. Unlike the terraces next door, all the houses had backyards and the necessary outbuildings. The property changed hands four times in the period from 1885 until resumption in 1900 but there were no major breaks in tenancies. After the government resumed the properties in 1900, the six houses at the rear-facing Harrington Lane were demolished between 1911 and 1914.

A surviving early Tudor building sited in what remains of Costessey Park is thought by some to be the hall granted by Henry. In 1555, Queen Mary granted Costessey Manor to Sir Henry Jerningham, heralding a long period of occupancy by the Jernegans, Jerninghams and Stafford Jerninghams. Sir Henry commissioned the building of a new Tudor Hall on Costessey Park, beginning his residency there in 1565. In 1827, Sir George William Jerningham, 8th Baron Stafford, commissioned large-scale grand and elaborate expansions of Sir Henry's Hall, with many towers and mock-Tudor windows.

An archaeological site is located at the lake, the only known example of a submerged Aboriginal site. Examination by Charles Dortch and others of the Western Australian Museum, in consultation with maritime archaeologists and the Nyungar community, produced reports that provide insights for a number of other disciplines and interests. The excavations have found stone implements and samples of tree stumps on the floor of the lake, that show an extensive period of occupancy and use of the lake's resources by the first peoples of the region. Lake Jasper was named in memory of Jasper Taylor Molloy Bussell (18631864), son of Alfred and Ellen Bussell.
