The two locomotive pairs were numbered 9250A&B; and 9251A&B;, later renumbered 1350A&B; and 1351A&B.; They initially were assigned to Markham Yard south of Chicago, IL, but by the early 1950s had been reassigned to the yard at East St. Louis, IL. Both remained in this service until they were retired in 1966 and traded in to EMD in part exchange for new EMD GP40 locomotives.
On 1 September 2004, immediately before the transfer deadline, Andrews transferred to Premier League side Crystal Palace, who were managed by former Oldham manager Iain Dowie. He signed for a six-figure fee in the region of £100,000, with Gareth Williams joining Colchester in part-exchange. He made his Palace debut on 11 December 2004, coming on as a 53rd-minute substitute for Aki Riihilahti in a 0–0 draw with Blackburn Rovers. Andrews made nine appearances in his first season with Crystal Palace, failing to score a goal.
Moundsmere became part of the dower first of Anne of Cleves and then of Catherine Howard. On the death of Catherine Howard, Henry VIII granted it to Winchester College in part exchange for certain other manors. The college used a manor in Moundsmere as a site of retreat from epidemics. The current Moundsmere Manor was built in 1908-9 by Sir Reginald Blomfield for Wilfred Buckley, a highly successful businessman returning to England from America, on the site he identified following a lengthy search for the perfect position.
In August 1990, Heart of Midlothian spent a then club record £750,000 to take Ferguson to Tynecastle. He became a mainstay in the Hearts team over the next three seasons, including 1991–92 when they finished league runners-up. His good performances earned him a move to Sunderland, with manager Terry Butcher (his former captain at Rangers) signing him in a part-exchange deal which saw John Colquhoun return to Hearts. After two seasons on Wearside, Ferguson moved back to Scotland when Falkirk paid Sunderland £250,000 for his services in 1995.
23 July 1992 – David Rocastle ends nine years at Arsenal by joining Leeds United in a £2 million deal. 25 July 1992 – Everton are reported to be £3.6 million in debt. 27 July 1992 – The new Premier League rejects sponsorship deals offered by Bass Breweries and Ford Motor Company, meaning it will be without a sponsor in its first season. 28 July 1992 – Alan Shearer signs for newly promoted Blackburn Rovers for an English record fee of £3.5 million, with David Speedie moving in the opposite direction in part exchange.
Godwin was born in Blackburn and began his career with local club Blackburn Rovers. He scored six league goals in two seasons at Ewood Park and joined Manchester City in June 1948. He scored three goals in eight matches for City before joining Stoke City, whose manager Bob McGrory saw Godwin as the answer to Stoke's goalscoring problem in 1949–50. However, despite scoring on his debut, Godwin scored just once more in the next 20 league matches and by January he was transferred to Third Division Mansfield Town in part-exchange for Harry Oscroft.
He was notable for the modern application of marketing methods, including the part exchange of customers' existing house, careful estate layouts and timber- framed production."Building" April 1967 Growth after the flotation was disappointing and in 1969 the Company acquired Midland & General Developments, then controlled by one-time estate agent Eric Pountain. In that year there were further losses on local authority housing contracts and McLean profits fell below their flotation level. Following a boardroom coup, Eric Pountain replaced Geoffrey McLean as managing director and the business was rationalised.
Wilcox was born in Walsall, Worcestershire and joined Aston Villa, initially as an amateur, in March 1906 before signing as a professional in November 1907. He only played six games in the Football League for Aston Villa, before joining Birmingham in a part- exchange deal involving George Travers in November 1908. He was a winger who enjoyed beating opposing defenders, and was a creator of chances for others rather than a goalscorer. He played 48 games for Birmingham in all competitions before moving on to Southampton in May 1911.
As a player with a background in Denizlispor for 4 seasons, in Fenerbahçe S.K. for 2 seasons and in many other Anatolian squads including Ankaraspor, Bursaspor, Yusuf's transition to Beşiktaş J.K. stirred the football community. It was claimed that Trabzonspor made a proposal for Yusuf long before Beşiktaş did, and further that both Bursaspor and Yusuf himself accepted the formal offer that Trabzonspor made. However, that claim was not verified. Actually, Trabzonspor's offer included a part-exchange deal sending Adnan Güngör to Bursaspor; but the deal went off when Adnan refused to exchange teams.
He made 34 league appearances and scored one goal as Blackpool finished second- bottom and were relegated to Division Four. Coughlin left the seaside early the following season after a loan spell at Shrewsbury Town. Coughlin joined his hometown club, Swansea City, for the 1990–91 season, and went on to make 101 league appearances for the Welshmen, before leaving for Exeter City in 1993, in part-exchange for John Hodge. After a two-year spell with Exeter, Coughlin brought his career to a close with Torquay United in 1996.
Released by Dundee after eighteen months, MacLeod joined Dundee United in April 1973. He made his debut in a Scottish League Cup match against East Fife on 11 August 1973, going on to make 36 appearances over the next two seasons without establishing himself as a regular. His three league goals for the club all came in the same match, against Morton on the final day of the 1973–74 season. In June 1975, MacLeod was transferred to St Johnstone as part-exchange in United's purchase of Henry Hall.
Thirty players made at least one appearance in nationally organised first-team competition, and there were twelve different goalscorers. Forward Bob Hatton played in 51 of the 54 first-team matches over the season, and the leading goalscorer was Hatton with 20 goals, of which 14 came in league competition. In February 1974, by which time he had already scored 18 goals for Birmingham, centre-forward Bob Latchford signed for Everton in part- exchange for Howard Kendall, Archie Styles, and £80,000. The whole package was valued at a British record transfer fee of £350,000.
Walker did play in the 1987 Scottish League Cup Final against Aberdeen, which Rangers won after a penalty shoot-out. Walker joined Heart of Midlothian in a £125,000 deal in 1990. His time at Tynecastle developed into a see-saw battle with Henry Smith for the starting goalkeeping role, both men earning international recognition when in the Hearts first team but enduring significant spells on the sidelines. Smith eventually won the duel and, after a loan spell with Burnley, Walker moved to Partick Thistle in 1994 in a part- exchange deal for Craig Nelson.
The present ring of six bells was cast by John Taylor & Co. of Loughborough in 1883, the two original bells being taken in part exchange. Two brass plates in the church commemorate the names of local clergy and churchwardens at the time of the bells' dedication and benefactors who contributed to the cost, the balance of which was raised by public subscription. In 1992 the bells were restored and re-hung by White's of Appleton following two years of local fund-raising. In 1857 Aston, Cote and Shifford were made part of the ecclesiastical parish of Bampton Aston.
New faces included goalkeepers John "Budgie" Burridge and George Wood, Chris Simpkin and Dave Lennard, and finally Keith Dyson. Dyson came in a part- exchange deal that took Tony Green to Tyneside and boosted Blackpool's finances to the tune of £150,000. On the field, a sixth-placed finish was achieved, and there was a run to the quarter-finals of the League Cup, where Blackpool was beaten by eventual winners Tottenham Hotspur. In the summer of 1972, Blackpool attempted to defend their hold on the Anglo-Italian Cup, and they made it to the final once again.
Baldwin was born in Gateshead and played for Wrekenton Juniors before joining Arsenal. He turned professional in 1962, and made his league debut in the 3–0 defeat of Birmingham City in April 1965. In September 1966, he scored Arsenal's first ever goal in the League Cup competition, shortly before transferring to Chelsea in part-exchange for George Graham in 1966. Playing in an attacking role, he scored 17 goals in his first season, including one on his debut against Manchester City, and played in the 1967 FA Cup Final as Chelsea lost 2–1 to Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.
Allen joined Tottenham Hotspur in December 1959 as part exchange for Johnny Brooks. He scored twice in his debut game for Spurs against Newcastle, and five against Crewe Alexandra in the 1959–60 FA Cup tie a few weeks later that ended 13–2, which is the highest scoring FA Cup tie of the 20th century, and the club's record win. He was a key member of Tottenham's double winning side of 1960–61, forming a lethal goalscoring partnership with Bobby Smith. He scored 23 goals in the league that season, and 4 in the cups.
There was also a five-part exchange (probably preceding the Vita nuova) called the duol d'amore ("dolour of love"), in which Dante da Maiano wrote three pieces and Dante Alighieri responded to the first two.The name duol d'amore comes from F. Pelligrini and is not original. In a final two-part communication, Dante Alighieri wrote Savere e cortesia, ingegno ed arte to Dante da Maiano's Amor mi fa sì fedelmente amare. In all their correspondence, the elder Dante assumes an air of superiority towards his up-and-coming interlocutor, the future author of the Divine Comedy.
In the 1948 close season he signed for Millwall in a part exchange deal which saw Bob Kelly go to Bury. He made his debut against Port Vale on 21 August 1948, and subsequently played for Millwall for four seasons, finishing as the club's top goalscorer in three of them. One of the most outstanding games Constantine played for The Lions was on 23 October 1948 against Notts County at The Den where a crowd of 46,000 had gathered to watch the great Tommy Lawton. Millwall and Constantine played brilliantly and won the game 3 - 2 with Constantine netting a brace.
In November 1932, Berry joined Third Division South club Crystal Palace in a part-exchange deal which saw Idris Hopkins move to Brentford. In what remained of the 1932–33 season, Berry scored four goals in 17 appearances, but in an unlucky twist, he lost his place to new signing Arthur Crompton, whose signing had cost him his place at Brentford a year earlier. He closed out his Football League career with a short spell at Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic, before moving to France to join National club SC Fives in 1934, where he remained until his retirement as a player in 1937.
Whitbread began his professional career as a trainee with Leyton Orient in 1989. He captained the team at the age of 21, and helped Leyton Orient to promotion to the Football League Second Division in 1992. He made a total of 155 league and cup appearances for Leyton Orient in four seasons, before joining Swindon Town in July 1993 for £500,000, and made 38 league and cup appearances for Swindon in the 1993–94 season. Following Swindon's relegation from the Premier League, Whitbread joined West Ham United in August 1994 in part-exchange for Joey Beauchamp.
In May 2004, Pugh was traded to derby rivals Leeds United in part-exchange for Alan Smith, becoming the first player signed by manager Kevin Blackwell. He scored his first goal in senior football on 10 August, as Leeds lost 2–1 at Gillingham in the Championship. He went on to score both of United's goals in a 2–2 draw at Crewe Alexandra on 18 September. He held down the left midfield position in a 4–4–2 formation for the first half of the 2004–05 season, before being switched to left-back after an injury to Stephen Crainey.
Minter obviously thought the 32-year-old Seed was reaching the end of his career with a young Taffy O'Callaghan ready to take his place, he promptly cut Seed's wages from £8 to £7 a week. Seeds reaction to this was to ask to be released by the club at the end of the 1926–27 season and after looking like taking the player- managers job at Aldershot he eventually signed for Sheffield Wednesday in a part exchange deal involving Darkie Lowdell and a cash adjustment paid by Spurs."The Jimmy Seed Story", Jimmy Seed, Gives biographical and career information.
In early February, he joined First Division club Sheffield United on loan, but before he could take the field, the move was made permanent. O'Connor was valued at an estimated £250,000 in a part- exchange deal that reunited Kendall with Don Hutchison. He made his debut the next day, as an 89th-minute substitute against Bradford City, and appeared just once more for the first team that season, again from the bench. He was part of the reserve team that won the 1998 Central League Cup, but his time at the club was disrupted by injury.
Several cases at law clarify this. In the case of Flynn v Mackin and Mahon an old car was supplied in part exchange for a new car, along with £250. This was held to be a barter, because no monetary value was affixed to the old car. However, in Aldridge v Johnson a similar transaction was held to be a sale, because a monetary value was assigned to the item being exchanged (23 bullocks, valued at £192), and cash then used to make up the difference to the price of the item being purchased (100 quarters of barley, valued at £215).
If the contract had been structured as "23 bullocks and £23 for 100 quarters of barley" then it could have qualified as barter. It is the affixture of the monetary value of £192 to the bullocks and £215 to the barley that made it a sale. Indeed, it is not necessary even for the contracting parties themselves to assign a monetary value to the goods for a part exchange deal to be held to be a sale. In Bull v Parker, the court itself assigned a value (£4) for new riding equipment, sold for some old riding equipment and £2.
Travers was born in Waterloo, London. He lived in Wolverhampton and began his football career with local teams Bilston United and Rowley United before joining Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1906. He made no league appearances for the club before moving on to Birmingham, where he spent eighteen months and played only twice for the first team. Transferred to Aston Villa in a part-exchange deal involving Jack Wilcox, he marked his debut in December 1908 with a hat-trick, but played only three more league games, leaving for Queens Park Rangers, then a Southern League club, at the end of the 1908–09 season.
This enabled BOAC to serve Australia with Constellations from 1949. A total of 25 Constellations passed through the BOAC fleet, including 12 749As obtained from Capital Airlines in the mid-1950s, with BOAC's older 049s in part exchange. BOAC was also permitted to spend dollars on six new Boeing 377 Stratocruisers for its key transatlantic routes from October 1949, offering a double-deck non-stop eastbound service from New York City to London Airport (later Heathrow). However, because of the prevailing westerly winds, the westbound flights needed re-fuelling at Shannon and Gander before reaching New York.
Huxford began his career as a junior with Chelsea, and made his Football League debut for the club in the 1958–59 season, before moving to Southampton in part-exchange for Charlie Livesey. He spent eight seasons with Southampton, during which he played 320 games in all competitions, scoring 4 goals. In 1967, he moved on to Exeter City for a season, playing a further 41 games and scoring once. He went on to play for clubs including Worcester City of the Southern League, after which he had a long career as coach or manager with numerous clubs in non-League football.
Sproates was born in 1944 in Hetton-le-Hole, which was then in County Durham. He began his football career with Sunderland, where he turned professional in 1961, but made no first-team appearances before he joined Swindon Town in 1963. After two seasons in which he played only five first-team games, Sproates moved to Darlington in part- exchange for Jimmy Lawton. He remained at the club until 1974, making 316 league appearances and helping the club reach runners-up spot in the Fourth Division and promotion to the Third Division in the 1965–66 season.
Striker Willie Falconer was signed from Sheffield United, right-back Lee Martin and goalkeeper Carl Muggleton came north from England, and in what is considered one of Macari's poorest moves, Andy Payton moved to Barnsley in a part-exchange deal for journeyman striker Wayne Biggins. A miserable 4–2 defeat by Rangers in the New Year fixture at Parkhead left Celtic languishing in the league. An early Scottish Cup exit in January 1994 at Motherwell sealed another dismal season for Celtic. Fergus McCann took over as owner of Celtic in March 1994 and duly sacked Macari three months later.
Financial troubles at Hearts dictated McPherson's next move, as he returned to the Edinburgh club in part exchange for Alan McLaren, Rangers also paying Hearts £1.25m. By now approaching the veteran stage, McPherson played an important role in nurturing Hearts' next generation of defenders such as Paul Ritchie and Gary Locke. He also helped the club to victory over Rangers in the 1998 Scottish Cup Final, their first silverware in 36 years, having lost the 1996 Scottish Cup Final to the same opponents. He is ranked as 20th on Hearts' all-time appearances list (375 matches) despite only having spent half of his career with the club.
Navas with Real Madrid in 2016 With the departure of Casillas from Real Madrid, Navas inherited his number 1 shirt for the 2015–16 La Liga season. Madrid agreed to transfer Navas to Manchester United in part- exchange for David de Gea on 31 August 2015, but the deal collapsed because the documents were not submitted to FIFA before the Spanish transfer deadline. Madrid thrashed Real Betis in their home opener by a score of 5–0 with a fine performance from Navas making several saves as well as stopping a penalty. He was a regular starter when the team won the 2015–16 UEFA Champions League.
Joe Anderson was transferred from Castleford to Leeds on Monday 10 January 1955 for £1700 (based on increases in average earnings, this would be approximately £96,810 in 2013), plus Alan Horsfall in part-exchange, he made his début for Leeds against Featherstone Rovers at Headingley Rugby Stadium, Leeds on Saturday 15 January 1955,Dalby, Ken (1955). At the end of that season, he joined Bradford City in part-exchange for Allan Hall, who was to score 42 league goals in his first season, which remains, , a club record. Pegg rarely played for Bradford City, and was one of five new forwards signed by Norwich City in the 1932 close season to add to the six already on the club's books. He rarely played for Norwich either, and ended his Football League career with a season of regular appearances for New Brighton, followed by a spell back in non-league football with Yarmouth Town. Pegg died in August 1991 aged about 89.
Pew carving at Croxton popularly thought to represent Nicholas de Crioll In May 1242 the King granted to de Criol and to his heirs the manor of Croxton (Croxton Kerrial, Leicestershire, named from this family) in part exchange for Kettleburgh (near Framlingham Castle), the formerly sequestrated manor. To this were added lands in the manor of Lechton, Sussex (probably Laughton), held by the king in bail from the Queen's uncle Peter II, Count of Savoy, to be held in interim by Bertram for the service of a pair of white gloves.Cal. Charter Rolls, 1226-1257, p. 274. Croxton manor had formerly been a possession of Hubert de Burgh's:H.
Revie was sold to First Division side Manchester City for £25,000 (including a part-exchange for Ernie Phillips, valued at £12,000) in October 1951. The Citizens struggled in the 1951–52 season, and then went on to finish just one place above the relegation zone in the 1952–53 campaign. Revie was often isolated from the rest of the team due to his lack of pace. The sale of Ivor Broadis then allowed Revie to drop deeper down the field, and allowed manager Les McDowall to put Revie in what eventually proved to be a pivotal role, introducing to English football the position of deep-lying centre forward.
The largest of these acquisitions were the Manchester firm of Arthur WardleGreensitt & Barratt offer document April 1972 and the Luton-based Janes.Barratt offer document January 1976 Central to Barratt’s expansion was its high-profile marketing, with national advertising, featuring Patrick Allen and a helicopter. Barratt provided starter homes for the first-time buyer and offered part-exchange to those trading up. In the year to June 1983, Barratt sold a record 16,500 houses making it by far the largest housebuilder in the country. In 1983 and 1984 Barratt was hit by two successive ITV World in Action programmes, the first criticising timber-framed housing and the latter, starter homes.
In the summer of 1993 he left Lincoln for Scunthorpe United, in a part-exchange deal with Dave Hill. Restored to the forward line at Scunthorpe, Carmichael scored a total of 24 goals, with 18 in the league, during a highly successful 1993–1994 season. He also established a club record when between 28 December 1993 and 19 February 1994 he scored in eight successive matches. However, he struggled to maintain such form the following season and joined Barnet on a month's loan in September 1994 before joining Preston North End in March 1995 for the remainder of the season, briefly playing alongside a young David Beckham.
There are two extreme views on how to render accounts for such deals, and most accounting practices fall somewhere in the spectrum in between. The one extreme has the profit on the deal taken straightaway that the new house is sold, on the presumption that the old house will sell for its exchange value. The other extreme has the profit on the deal not taken at all until the entire deal has completed, including the sale onwards of the old house received in exchange. The major accounting considerations are making provisions at year's end for part exchange stock that remains unsold, and for the predicted marketing costs of selling it.
He was unable to make himself a regular part of Everton's first team, making only 23 league appearances in seven years at the club. In February 1974, together with Howard Kendall, he moved from Everton to Birmingham City in part-exchange for Bob Latchford, the whole deal valuing Latchford at £350,000 which was at the time a British transfer record. At Birmingham, facing competition from Garry Pendrey and others, he failed to establish himself as first choice at left back. In 1978, he moved to Peterborough United where he spent one season, followed by one season at Portsmouth, after which he joined the coaching staff at the club.
They lost 2-1 in controversial circumstances, as Palace were denied a first half goal despite the ball clearly crossing the line. Francis resigned on 18 April after another difficult season, and was replaced by long-serving coach Steve Kember. The end of Francis' tenure, however, saw the beginning of a remarkable, two-year-long transfer saga. Clinton Morrison, a youth team product who had been one of the team's most reliable goalscorers, headed to Birmingham for a £4 million fee in a part-exchange deal which saw Andrew Johnson come to Selhurst Park for £750,000, having been deemed surplus to requirements by Blues boss Steve Bruce.
Barry publicly criticised his manager, Martin O'Neill, accusing him of making no attempt to keep him at the club, and further stating a desire to join Liverpool in order to compete in the Champions League.Gareth Barry: I want to join Liverpool, my mind is made up Telegraph, 29 June 2008 O'Neill denied this claim and Barry was officially disciplined for giving an unauthorised interview. A further bid from Liverpool of around £15 million was rejected as it was still short of Villa's £18 million asking price. Steve Finnan had then been offered in part-exchange in the deal, but the fee Villa wanted in this case was understood by BBC Sport to be £17 million with Finnan included.
Børge Hernes (born 11 December 1976) is a retired Norwegian football defender. He played youth football for Astor FK and SK Nationalkameratene before coming through the junior ranks of Rosenborg BK. He made his debut for the senior team in 1997, played in the Champions League and was touted as the next Vegard Heggem. However, when Nils Arne Eggen re-assumed the managerial position at Rosenborg in 1999, Hernes fell out of favour and was loaned to Vålerenga as a part-exchange with John Carew. Ahead of the 2001 season he joined another Oslo club, Skeid, but amid a financial meltdown in Skeid and his own injury problems, he retired in 2002.
In August 1997, Blinker moved to Celtic in part exchange for Paolo di Canio as part of the club general manager Jock Brown's infamous 'trade' deal with Sheffield Wednesday. He re-joined former Feyenoord coach Wim Jansen, who had been appointed the previous month, going on to win the Scottish Premier Division and the Scottish League Cup in his first season and scoring 12 goals in 70 competitive games. Blinker returned to the Netherlands in the summer of 2000, signing for RBC Roosendaal. After suffering top flight relegation as last, he joined Sparta Rotterdam, meeting the same fate; he played for amateurs Deltasport Vlaardingen for a few more years, before retiring at the age of 37.
Within a year, Tindall had established himself in the Chelsea first team and, though the side's form was often erratic, he struck up a prolific strike partnership with the emerging Jimmy Greaves. In the 1960–61 season, they scored 59 goals between them (16 for Tindall, 43 for Greaves), a club record which still stands. By the end of 1961, both Greaves and manager Ted Drake had left Chelsea and Tommy Docherty was appointed in Drake's place; Tindall became surplus to requirements as Docherty concentrated on re-building the Chelsea side around the new generation of youngsters. He was sold to West Ham United in November 1961 in part exchange for Andy Malcolm.
In November 1997, Lormor joined Preston North End in part-exchange for David Reeves. Lormor scored the opening goal and added an assist for a second as Preston won 3–1 at Luton Town, but only two more goals came from his next 16 appearances, and he was allowed to join Notts County on loan in February 1998. After failing to score in seven games for County, Lormor left Preston for Mansfield Town in the 1998 close season for a fee of £15,000. A fee had been agreed the previous summer for him to join Mansfield from Chesterfield, but manager John Duncan had been reluctant to allow him to leave without a replacement.
Ironically, a similar clause was to be included in the treaties Charles II himself concluded with the Republic in 1662, 1667 and 1674, after his Restoration, but then aimed at the regicides. The island Run in the East Indies, which had been claimed by the E.I.C. since at least 1623, but had always been denied to them by its rival, the militarily-stronger V.O.C., was formally ceded to the E.I.C. This cession, however, did not take practical effect till March 1665. The island was taken back by the V.O.C.in November 1666 during the Second Anglo-Dutch War and formally ceded to the V.O.C. by the Treaty of Breda in 1667 in part-exchange for New Netherland.
Until they bought Gamestation, Game were considered to be Gamestation's primary competitor. Gamestation's main method of attracting customers was to put on more special offers than its competitor as well as focusing on pre- owned games and large discounts on older titles. The chain mainly focused on the sixth and seventh generation of consoles: PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS and PlayStation Portable, as well as the PC and previous generations of consoles (such as PlayStation 2, Xbox, Nintendo GameCube, and Game Boy Advance). They also sold, and accepted as part exchange, games and consoles from older generations, such as the Sega Master System, Mega Drive, Sega Saturn, Dreamcast, NES, Super NES, Nintendo 64 and PlayStation.
Celtic's form didn't improve and a miserable 4–2 defeat by Rangers in the New Year fixture at Parkhead left them languishing in the league. Macari made several moves in the transfer market – none of them particularly successful. Gerry Creaney, one of the few consistent goalscorers at Celtic at that time, was played out of position on the right-wing for several weeks before being sold to Portsmouth for £600,000.
Begović playing for Chelsea in 2015 On 13 July 2015, Chelsea signed Begović on a four-year deal for a fee of £8 million. As part of the deal Chelsea also offered midfielder Marco van Ginkel in part exchange to Stoke on loan for one season. He made his debut nine days later on Chelsea's pre-season tour, coming on at half time for Thibaut Courtois with Chelsea 1–0 up against the New York Red Bulls, but the match ended in a 4-2 defeat. His first competitive fixture was the 2015 FA Community Shield on 2 August at Wembley Stadium, in which he was unused in a 1–0 loss to rivals Arsenal.
Born in Paternò, Coco spent the majority of his club career with the Milan clubs; first with A.C. Milan between 1993 and 2002 and later with Inter between 2002 and 2007; he spent the 2001–02 season on loan at FC Barcelona, with generally solid performances (he also had loan spells with Vicenza Calcio and Torino F.C.). He was part of the Milan teams that won the Serie A in 1995–96 and 1998–99. In 2002, Milan traded Coco to Inter in a part exchange deal for Clarence Seedorf, worth €28 million. Despite reaching the 2002–03 Champions League semi-finals and winning the 2004–05 Coppa Italia, Coco's spell at Inter was blighted by injuries.
Yet five years later, the Birmingham Mail sports editor, Dennis Shaw, wrote what a colleague described as a "a dossier of despair on the wasted seventies at St Andrew's. It was a chronicle of lack of achievement, sales of star players and unsuccessful replacements, growing disenchantment among the fans." Seven wins and a draw in the last eight matches took Birmingham to a mid-table finish in 1972–73, but by February 1974, the team lay 20th, the club needed to raise money, and Latchford was sold to Everton in a part-exchange deal: £80,000 cash plus players Howard Kendall and Archie Styles, valued at a British record fee of £350,000. Without a goalscorer of that quality, the team struggled, Matthews (1995).
De Gea playing for Manchester United in 2016 On 7 August 2015, Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal confirmed that De Gea would not be considered for selection for United's Premier League opener against Tottenham the following day, due to the uncertainty surrounding his future. On 13 August, Van Gaal revealed that De Gea had requested to goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek that he be left out of the team. De Gea claimed he never expressed a desire not to play, but trained with the reserves soon after. On 31 August, after a summer of speculation, an agreement for a transfer was reached between Manchester United and Real Madrid worth £29 million, including the part-exchange of fellow goalkeeper Keylor Navas.
In the summer of 2008, and without having made a first-team appearance for the Canaries, Gilks signed for fellow Championship club Blackpool as makeweight in a part- exchange deal which saw Wes Hoolahan go in the opposite direction. He made his debut on 12 August 2008 in a 2–0 League Cup defeat by Macclesfield Town. After failing to break into the first team, and considering quitting the game due to lack of opportunities and a self-perceived lack of ability during a training session, he signed for League Two club Shrewsbury Town on a month's loan on 21 November to cover an injury crisis at the club. He made his debut the following day in a goalless draw with Lincoln City at Sincil Bank.
On 7 August 2019, Danilo signed for Serie A champions Juventus on a five-year contract following a €37 million transfer fee paid by Juventus. The transaction involved a part-exchange that saw João Cancelo move to Manchester City. Danilo made his Juventus debut on 31 August in a match against Napoli, in which he scored the opening goal of an eventual 4–3 home victory, which was also the fastest goal scored by a foreign player in Serie A. In the 2020 Coppa Italia Final against Napoli on 17 June, following a 0–0 draw after regulation time, Danilo missed Juventus' second spot kick in the resulting shoot-out, hitting the ball over the crossbar. Napoli ultimately won the match 4–2 on penalties.
Kitson began his career as a trainee at Leicester City in 1988. In one season at Leicester, Kitson and Ian Baraclough, his striking partner, scored 60 or so goals between them for the youth and reserve sides. Baraclough was sold to Grimsby Town, while Kitson scored 11 goals in 63 appearances for the Leicester first-team, and joined Derby County for a club record of £1.3 million transfer fee in March 1992, made up of £800,000 with Phil Gee and Ian Ormondroyd moving to Leicester in part exchange. Derby manager Arthur Cox described him as having "...all the qualities to develop into an outstanding player." and Kitson went on to score 49 goals in 132 appearances in two-and-a half years at Derby.
Fred Halliday was appointed Brentford manager on 24 June and began assembling an almost entirely new squad, which eventually reduced the wage bill by 20%, to £2,565 across the entire season (equivalent to £ in ). Brentford endured a forgettable Southern League First Division season, matching the 33 points won during the previous season, but instead finishing five places lower at the bottom of the table. The return of Jimmy Jay in October helped solidify the back lines, which up to that point were leaking goals. Forward Alex McCulloch, signed during the 1908 off-season, caught the eye of manager Halliday's former club Bradford Park Avenue and departed for a £350 fee in November, with Geordie Reid arriving at Griffin Park in part-exchange.
The summer Transfer deadline day on 1 September saw Derby make just one move in the market, as Jordan Stewart moved to Sheffield United in part exchange for Lee Hendrie. There was also interest in other Derby players, with Ipswich Town making a bid for Paul Connolly which was rejected and Rob Hulse the subject of a £4m+ bid from Middlesbrough. Hulse rejected the opportunity to move, citing his fondness for club as the reason. It was later revealed that, had the deal gone through, Derby had set up a loan move for Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Sam Vokes as a replacement. An additional striker was eventually brought into the club with the loan signing of Everton youngster James Vaughan until January 2010 on 18 September.
Matters were made worse when McAloon and Durrant were quickly sold to Celtic and Queens Park Rangers respectively. A supporter, writing to The Brentford & Chiswick Times, commented "it would seem that Brentford were unaware when they allowed them to go that Thomas, Durrant and McAloon had scored very nearly all the side’s goals in the previous season". Manager Curtis received half back George Paterson from Celtic in part exchange for McAloon and also strengthened the team with full back Malky Macdonald and forward Archie Macaulay. By December, Brentford had dropped into the relegation places and a run of 11 losses in 15 matches culminated in the heaviest defeat of the season – 6–1 away to Sheffield United on Christmas Day.
Without a transfer budget to speak of, Brentford player-manager Tommy Lawton could not rely entirely on filling his squad with the products of Alf Bew's youth team, which had reached the semi-finals of the inaugural FA Youth Cup during the previous season. Lawton again relied on Wally Bragg and Ken Coote to hold two of the half back berths alongside Tony Harper. He signed ageing forwards Frank Broome and Ian McPherson from his previous club Notts County as replacements for Les Smith and the injured Jimmy D'Arcy. Six defeats and just one win from the opening 9 Second Division matches saw Tommy Lawton quit the club in favour of a £10,000 move to Arsenal, a transfer which saw James Robertson arrive at Griffin Park in part-exchange.
Cresswell had been contracted to West Brom during the season due to the transfer system in place at the time and officially joined Chester in time for their first season in The Football League in partexchange for the prolific Arthur Gale. Cresswell helped create Chester's first goal in Division Three North against Wigan Borough and played regularly in the number 10 shirt before being transferred to Second Division side Notts County midway through 1933–34 for £2,500. But he returned to Sealand Road at the start of the following season after struggling to settle at his new club. The 1935–36 season saw Chester finish runners–up in Division Three North, with Cresswell scoring twice in a club record 12–0 win over York City on 1 February 1936.

On 8 May 2005, Jones scored the winning goal in the 2–1 league win against Coventry City, the goal gave The Alex their first win in 19 games and saved the club from relegation on the final day of the season. At the beginning of the 2005–06 season, Jones indicated to Crewe manager Dario Gradi that he wanted to leave at the end of the season when his contract expired. In October, Preston North End manager Billy Davies declared his interest in bringing Jones to Deepdale, however Crewe were not interested in the player part-exchange offer that was being tabled.
His opportunities at Nottingham Forest were limited and after only four League appearances in three years, he was subsequently allowed to move to Preston North End in 1979. In five seasons at Deepdale he made 208 League appearances, scoring 70 goals, and it was this firepower that encouraged Luton manager David Pleat to invest £95,000 to bring him to Kenilworth Road in the summer of 1984. Although scoring within three minutes of the start of his debut against Stoke City on the opening day of 1984–85, he struggled and was used in the part-exchange deal that brought David Preece to Kenilworth Road from Walsall in December 1984. Elliott rediscovered his scoring boots at Fellows Park and after two successful years there he joined Bolton Wanderers for £25,000.
He moved to England in 1963 to sign for Fourth Division club Darlington, for whom he scored a goal every two games. In February 1966, Allison joined Lincoln City in part-exchange for Barry Hutchinson, in a deal estimated by the Guardian at about £5,000, as Darlington reinforced an already strong squad to ensure their first promotion for more than 40 years. Allison scored seven goals in his twelve appearances in what remained of the 1965–66 season, but was less productive the following year, and left Lincoln to play in the American Soccer League for the Rochester Lancers in 1967. He remained with the Lancers until 1970, when he joined the Syracuse Scorpions as part of the deal in which top scorer Jim Lefkos moved to Rochester.
The emergence of John Aldridge meant Whatmore was surplus to requirements after a season and, after a second loan spell at Bolton, he joined Burnley in a part-exchange deal with Billy Hamilton before moving on to Mansfield Town a few months later. At Mansfield he helped them win the 1986–87 Associate Members' Cup, playing in the final. When he was released after two- and-a-half years he spent his fourth and final spell at Burnden Park, an anonymous fan coming up with his wages, but he did not make the team and re- signed for Mansfield Town on a non-contract basis as reserve team coach and occasional player. In 1988, he moved into non-league football with Worksop Town, and later coached in South Africa.
Before the 1996–97 season began, Cole had to deal with being offered to Blackburn Rovers as part-exchange in a £12 million deal that would have brought Alan Shearer to Old Trafford, but the offer was rejected and Shearer joined Newcastle instead. Despite Alex Ferguson's clear indication to Cole that he was looking for another striker, after the Shearer deal fell through, Cole fought to stay at the club and was handed the number 9 shirt, having previously worn 17. The arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjær – and being the victim of two broken legs suffered after a tackle by Neil Ruddock in a reserve match against Liverpool,Neil Ruddock Interview talkSPORT, 16 June 2010 restricted Cole's first-team chances further. However, he managed to recover by December that year and still played in 20 Premier League matches (ten as a substitute) for the season.
A native of Glasgow, McPherson first joined Rangers as a youth player and made his debut in a 3–1 victory over Arbroath on 26 August 1939, although World War II intervened during the early part of his career, and all competitive football was suspended. After 15 goals in 16 wartime appearances, McPherson left Rangers to serve in the RAF and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in 1944 and 1945. After returning from duty, he joined Notts County in 1945, playing in regional wartime leagues. After a single season with the Magpies, McPherson was signed by Arsenal in August 1946 (in part-exchange for Reg Cumner), in time for the resumption of competitive League football that autumn. He made his Arsenal debut against Wolves in the club's first post-war First Division match, on 31 August 1946; Arsenal lost 6–1, their biggest League defeat in nearly twenty years.
Brentford's then-longest serving player Bill Berry was transferred to Crystal Palace in part-exchange for Idris Hopkins in November 1932. Brentford manager Harry Curtis made a number of signings in the 1932 off-season, but none would prove more crucial to the club's future success than the acquisition of forwards Jack Holliday, Billy Scott and half back Herbert Watson from First Division Middlesbrough for a combined £1,500 fee in May 1932, with the majority of the money having been raised by the sale of record goalscorer Billy Lane to Watford earlier that month. The club entered the season with one of its youngest-ever squads. Brentford had a dream start to the Third Division South season, going undefeated and winning 12 of the opening 14 matches, setting a new club record of 16 consecutive undefeated Football League matches, a run which began with wins in the final two matches of the 1931–32 season.
Hill played for hometown club Carrick Rangers before joining Linfield. He won three successive Irish League titles at Windsor Park, in 1953–54, 1954–55, and 1955–56. He joined Newcastle United in part-exchange for Jackie Milburn in 1957. The "Magpies" struggled in the lower half of the First Division table in the 1957–58 season, and finished just one point above the relegation zone. They then improved to finish 11th in 1958–59, but Hill never settled in at St James' Park, scoring two goals in just 11 league games. He moved on to Norwich City, and helped Archie Macaulay's "Canaries" to win promotion out of the Third Division in second place in 1959–60; Hill and Terry Allcock were the club's top-scorers with 16 goals. Norwich finished fourth in the Second Division in 1960–61, nine points short of a second successive promotion. New manager Willie Reid led the club to 17th in 1961–62, though Norwich found greater success in the League Cup.
Then after Mustafa Denizli's persistence for an efficient playmaker, Yusuf was transferred to Beşiktaş J.K., for a part-exchange deal including Tuna Üzümcü plus 400k euro. Following the accusations directed by Fenerbahçe and Trabzonspor supporters, which were mainly centered on "betrayal", Yusuf felt the need to make it public that he had always been a Beşiktaş J.K. fan, displaying a childhood photograph where he could be seen in a striped black&white; jersey. He further stated that he was deeply affected by the legendary era between early 80s-mid 90s under the helm of Gordon Milne, which includes successive title achievements.Turned out Yusuf has been a Beşiktaş fan from birth The transfer was severely criticized in Beşiktaş J.K. community as well, due to exchanging 2 promising youngsters for an aging player. Joining Everton in the closing months of the 1986–87 season, Clarke quickly established himself as a key member of Everton's championship-winning side scoring five goals in ten games, notably the winning goal away at Arsenal not long after he joined, and earning himself a championship medal. He then began the following season with the only goal in a 1–0 Charity Shield win over FA Cup winners Coventry City at Wembley, and later scored the only goal in the Merseyside derby that not only beat arch- rivals Liverpool, but also prevented them setting a new record of 30 games unbeaten from the start of a season. However, with Graeme Sharp and Adrian Heath being Everton's main striking partnership, Clarke's appearances for Everton in the 1987–88 and 1988–89 seasons were largely limited to coming on from the substitute's bench or covering for Sharp or Heath when they were injured. He helped Everton reach the FA Cup final but did not play in the final (which Everton lost to Liverpool), following which Everton brought in Mike Newell from Leicester City in part exchange for Clarke and £500,000.
