As Grobet is making her photographs, she desires to understand reality better. According to Grobet, and as noted in her 2004 book Lourdes Grobet: On the Eye’s Edge, “she has used this photographic experience as an inductive process in order to understand or 'live' reality (or realities) rather than illustrate certain preconceived ideas.
