They include, among others, his most popular humorous and satirical stories: Roga, Not About What, Pricker for Fire, One Good Turn Deserves Another, The Musician, Walk After Death, An Ominous Number. His best stories, however, are: Glava secera (Sugarloaf); Redak zver (A Rare Animal); and Prva brazda (The First Furrow). Based on peasant life and often built upon popular legend, his stories accurately depict the life of the down-trodden and poor in the Balkans, exposing the usurers, and the insincere love of the ruling class for the common folk.
Northern Routemasters were well liked by their crews: the high axle ratio meant a good turn of speed on long-distance routes such as Newcastle to Darlington, and power steering was well appreciated on busy urban services in Gateshead and Sunderland. Their service in the north also produced the odd sight of a Routemaster with a rollsign "X1 Scandinavia", connecting with the DFDS ferry from North Shields to Scandinavia. However, throughout the 1970s it became increasingly uneconomic to have conductors on inter-urban services. Despite driver and customer satisfaction, Northern had little option but to replace them.
As a result, in May 1971, the Air Force Prototype Study Group was established, with Boyd a key member, and two of its six proposals would be funded, one being the Lightweight Fighter (LWF). The Request for Proposals issued on 6 January 1972 called for a class air-to-air day fighter with a good turn rate, acceleration, and range, and optimized for combat at speeds of Mach 0.6–1.6 and altitudes of . This was the region where USAF studies predicted most future air combat would occur. The anticipated average flyaway cost of a production version was $3 million.
Over the previous season, sign ups never exceeded 750, At the time 1000 sign ups were the standard measure of a good turn out in for an average national during the season. It was said that partly responsible for the low turnout for the Grands was the fact that it was scheduled two weeks before Christmas when family and individual budgets were stretched and/or saving up for the upcoming Jag World Championships. Whatever the reasons, for the Grand Nationals, the premier event of the year for any sanctioning body, to have so low an attendance figure was almost disastrous.
Fort Apache, The Bronx is a 1981 American crime drama film directed by Daniel Petrie. The film is about a hard-drinking, lonely veteran cop, Murphy (Paul Newman), and his young partner Corelli (Ken Wahl), who work in a crime-ridden precinct in The Bronx. Although Murphy's life takes a good turn when he falls in love with Isabella (Rachel Ticotin), a young nurse, the arrival of a new, law-and-order-minded police captain commanding the precinct, Connoly (Ed Asner) threatens to tip the neighborhood's delicate balance into anarchy. Danny Aiello, Kathleen Beller, and Pam Grier play supporting roles.
BACE made its debut in 1993 at the season opening race at Daytona International Speedway. Jack Sprague was the driver, and he finished 44th after the engine expired. After that less-than-stellar debut, Sprague and BACE made a good turn around, and they soon became a consistent top-20 contender, and had three top-10 finishes. After the fall race at Dover International Speedway, BACE and Sprague parted ways, and Winston Cup star Ernie Irvan occupied the car for one race, but another driver took the reins as well, a young short-track driver named Johnny Benson.

1930 A second order was placed with Henschel & Son for eighteen locomotives which were delivered in 1928. These were followed by a third order, placed with Maffei in 1928, for a final batch of ten locomotives which were delivered in that same year. They were superheated, had bar frames and used Walschaerts valve gear. Its good turn of speed and reasonably high tractive effort made the Class GF Double Pacific a good utility locomotive and, with 65 units, the class was the most numerous Garratt type in SAR service until the arrival of the Class GMA and Class GMAM in 1954.
Theile made a good turn, lengthening his lead to half a body length, before holding off a late surge to claim consecutive gold medals, defeating McKinney by just 0.2 s, setting a new Olympic record in the event. For the first time, the 4×100-metre medley relay was contested at the Olympics, and combining with Terry Gathercole, Neville Hayes and Geoff Shipton, the Australians finished well behind the Americans to win the silver medal. After the games, FINA announced that the 100-metre would be dropped in favour of the 200-metre backstroke. Theile, a sprinter, immediately announced his retirement thereafter.
The Narragansett Council, Boy Scouts of America is part of a worldwide Scouting movement with over 15 million members in one hundred countries. Boy Scouting began in England in 1907 when the British military hero, Lord Robert Baden-Powell, organized the first Boy Scout camp. In 1908, he published Scouting for Boys and formed what would become the British Boy Scout Association. As a result of a “good turn” performed by an English Scout in London for Chicago publisher William D. Boyce, Scouting came to America. The Boy Scouts of America was incorporated in 1910 and chartered by Congress on June 15, 1916.
Originally from California Gully, Norris came to Melbourne and played for Northcote in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) before receiving a transfer to Collingwood in July 1910. Playing mostly as a follower, Norris made up for his 178 cm with a good turn of speed as indicated by his victory in three footraces earlier that year. A gripman on the tramways Norris competed at the employees picnic coming first in the Denham Plate (all-comers), gripmen and 440 yards events. He continued to place in similar events for much of his career despite the fact he debuted in the VFL aged 28.
The method adopted is to educate him from within rather than to instruct him from without. He is educated mentally, morally and physically, or as the “Chief Old Wolf”, so aptly puts it, “to enthuse in the right direction.” Two of the greatest inspirations of Baden Powell were the law and promise for the Cubs and the Grand Howl. On his investiture, a Cub makes a simple promise – he promises to do his best to do his duty to God and the Country, to keep the law of the Wolf Cub Pack and to do a good turn every day.
Mehmedi began his senior career with FC Zürich at the age of 17. Within two years he was included in the first-team squad and by 2010 he was a first-team regular. He made his senior side debut on 20 July 2008 and scored two goals in eleven appearances, in addition to winning the Swiss Super League in his debut season with the club. Being a first team regular in 2010, Mehmedi established himself as a physical striker, excellent in the box as well as having a good turn of pace, he was also technically great.
Peasgood is also a TV presenter, and won the Royal Television Society's TV Personality of the Year Award in 2004, for her series Great Little Breaks. Other credits include Bootsale Challenge, Loose Women, This Morning, Wish You Were Here...?, The Alan Titchmarsh Show, Turf Wars on UKTV Style,A Buyer's Guide to Spain on Real Estate TV which she wrote, directed and presented with her husband actor Patrick Pearson, and Crafty Beggars for TLC which she co-produced and co-presented with business partner Wendy Turner Webster (sister of TV personality Anthea Turner) being the first venture for their company Good Turn Productions.
One Good Turn: A Natural History of the Screwdriver and the Screw is a book published in 2000 by Canadian architect, professor and writer Witold Rybczynski. The idea for the book came in 1999 when an editor at The New York Times Magazine asked Rybczynski to write a short essay on the best and most useful common tool of the previous 1000 years. Rybczynski took the assignment, but as he researched the history of the items in his workshop – hammers and saws, levels and planes – he found that most dated well back into antiquity. At the point of giving up, he asked his wife for ideas.
Even walking behind the barriers, he was nice and relaxed. He stood nicely in the barriers and flew out. The other one just wanted to take up the lead and I was happy to take the sit. He relaxed beautifully there, but when I asked him for an effort he had a really good turn of foot and I was able to ease him down on the line.” Four weeks later, Farnan ran in the Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Classic over 1,100 metres. Ridden by Tim Clark he started second favourite at odds of $2.90 behind Every Rose, who had been successful in the Gimcrack Stakes at his previous start.
Silver Buffalo award and citation presented to the Unknown Scout In 1926, the second presentation of the Silver Buffalo Award was to the Unknown Scout. That award resides in the museum at Gilwell Park. In addition to the award, a statue of a buffalo was presented with a plaque, inscribed: > To the Unknown Scout Whose Faithfulness in the Performance of the Daily Good > turn Brought the Scout Movement to the United States of America. On July 4, 1926, the statue was presented to Edward, the Prince of Wales and Baden-Powell by Amory Houghton, the United States Ambassador and a member of the National Council of the BSA.
In 1997, the BSA developed Service to America with a commitment to provide 200 million hours of service by youth members by the end of the year 2000. As part of Service to America, the BSA provided service projects in conjunction with the National Park Service. In October 2003, the Department of the Interior expanded the program with the creation of Take Pride in America, opening service to all Americans. Service to America became Good Turn for America in 2004 and expanded to address the problems of hunger, homelessness, and inadequate housing and poor health in conjunction with the Salvation Army, the American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, and other organizations.
After tracking the leader Rain Goddess, Enable went to the front two furlongs out, accelerated away from her rivals and won "easily" by five and a half lengths. Dettori commented "Enable is a very special filly and it was so important to ride her – she is a true professional and I think she has improved since Epsom. She has a good turn of foot and put the race to bed". Less than two weeks after her win at the Curragh, Enable, with Dettori again in the saddle, was matched against older horses and male opposition in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot Racecourse.
After the race Demuro commented "The filly was relaxed and when I saw the second favorite come outside us after the fourth corner, I told her it's time to go, we have to fight, and she responded really well. She responds very quickly and has a very good turn of foot. She's a good horse and I think she will have a very good chance in the Oka Sho next year". In the official ratings for Japanese two-year-olds Danon Fantasy was rated the best juvenile filly of the year, one pound ahead of Chrono Genesis and five pounds below the top-rated colt Admire Mars.
In the official British Free Handicap for three-year-olds of 1972 Moulton was rated the eleventh-best three-year-old colt of the year, ten pounds behind the top-rated Deep Diver. The independent Timeform organisation gave him a rating of 121, thirteen pounds behind their best three-year-olds Deep Diver and Sallust. In their annual "Racehorses of 1972" Timeform described him as "a grand stamp of an animal", with a "good turn of foot". In 1973 Moulton was rated 128 by Timeform, nine pounds behind their Horse of the Year Rheingold, a horse he had beaten by more than six lengths at York.

Grateful for their courage and for the good turn, the King sent mayor Onofrio Scannapieco a blank parchment, on which the city could write any kind of request. The Cavesi declined to make any request, and the King then conferred upon the whole city the title of Fedelissima (most loyal). The document is still conserved in the Town Hall, blank as it was in 1460. Every year since then, on the first Sunday of July, about 1000 people in the costume of the period parade through the city in the Disfida dei Trombonieri (Challenge of the Trombonists), to the rhythms and music belonging to each district, thus re-invoking this page of their history .
One of the more surprising tributes to McCann came from Gusty Spence, leader of the Ulster Volunteer Force loyalist group. Spence wrote a letter of sympathy to McCann's widow, expressing his, "deepest and profoundest sympathy" on the death of her husband. "He was a soldier of the Republic and I a Volunteer of Ulster and we made no apology for being what we were or are...Joe once did me a good turn indirectly and I never forgot him for his humanity". This is thought to refer to an incident in which three UVF men wandered into the Lower Falls, were captured by OIRA men, but were released unharmed on McCann's orders.
They learn and apply the ideals codified in the Scout Oath and the Scout Law through an advancement system using age-based ranks earned by completing required and elective adventures. Some advancement is done in the home and is intended to involve the entire family and many Cub Scout activities include family members. In the Scouts BSA program, Scouts learn to use the ideals spelled out in the Scout Oath, the Scout Law, the Outdoor Code, the Scout motto ("Be prepared"), and the Scout slogan ("Do a good turn daily"). They wear a uniform and work together in patrols of four to ten boys with an elected patrol leader, who then appoints an assistant patrol leader.
Although he was a "solid, reliable performer at full back with a good turn of speed", he found first-team chances hard to come by, making only six appearances in his four years with the "Saints". The return of Dan Gordon in 1911 reduced his chances of regular football even further and in July 1912, the Saints accepted an offer of £100 from Liverpool of the Football League First Division. On Merseyside, he again found few opportunities of first-team football and in three seasons at Anfield, his only Football League appearance came on 15 April 1914 when he replaced regular right-back Ephraim Longworth in a 2–1 defeat against Manchester United.
The design goals for the boat were established by the first customer, "a gentleman who asked Crocker for a stout boat that would handle the seas on Buzzards Bay and south of Cape Cod, have a good turn of speed, a large cockpit for sailing with friends and a comfortable cabin for occasional overnighting." The Stone Horse is a recreational keelboat, designed as a fast racer and cruiser for the Cape Cod and Buzzards Bay waters of the US east coast. The boats built between 1931 and World War Two were made from wood. The design was later built with Airex core fiberglass construction, with wood trim and built from 1968 to 2010.
Nicknamed "Cocky", Bennett started his career with his home town club of Mexborough, where his form prompted Sheffield United to try and sign him on a number of occasions although both he and his father held out for a better deal. He eventually signed for the Blades in 1896 for a transfer fee of £10. Initially supporters felt Bennett had a surly attitude and was not fit enough to play at the top level as he was a heavy, thick-set man. Dropping two stones following a fitness regime, however, he showed a good turn of speed and became a mainstay of the Blades side that dominated the game in that period.
The reviewer for the Quill & Quire cited the book as an example of a subgenre which an article in The Atlantic Monthly dubbed "mundane studies" referring to the ubiquity of the subject, like Mark Kurlansky's Salt: A World History and Witold Rybczynski's One Good Turn: A Natural History of the Screwdriver and the Screw. Dewdney's writing in Acquainted with the Night combines a poet's point of view with an interest for the sciences. The tone was described as "boyish enthusiasm" and "highly condensed yet personable voice". Gisèle Baxter, in the journal Canadian Literature, wrote that its tone was set at the beginning of the book by "an anecdote of a small boy creeping into the moonlit, partly wooded backyard of his family home".

In August 1929 he sent a copy of "The Spike" to the Adelphi magazine in London, and it was accepted for publication.
Piddock sold his first screenplay in 1990 for a mid-six figure sum. Since then, his produced work has been diverse, ranging from Fox's $120 million grossing family film Tooth Fairy in 2010, starring Dwayne Johnson, Ashley Judd, Julie Andrews, Billy Crystal, and Stephen Merchant; New Line's action-comedy The Man, starring Samuel L. Jackson and Eugene Levy; and the Cold War romantic thriller A Different Loyalty, starring Sharon Stone and Rupert Everett. His other produced film writing credits include the thrillers Traces of Red (Samuel Goldwyn Company) and One Good Turn (First Look Pictures). In November 2019, it was announced that his screenplay Frankel would begin shooting in 2020 with Jeremy Irons playing the lead role of Sir Henry Cecil.
An idealistic scene from the 1930s illustrating historic costumes: Bekonscot model village In the United Kingdom, the Brownie Promise is: :I promise that I will do my best: :To be true to myself and develop my beliefs, :To serve the Queen and my community, :To help other people :and :To keep the Brownie Guide Law. After a wide public consultation in spring 2013, the promise wording was changed for all sections. The Brownie promise before September 2013 was: :I promise that I will do my best: :To love my God, :To serve The Queen and my country :To help other people, :And to keep the Brownie Guide Law. The Brownie Guide Law is: :A Brownie Guide thinks of others before herself and does a good turn every day.
The phrase is also noted as the "much vaunted maxim" of the Tammany Hall political machine of the 1860s: they used "repeaters", who were given five dollars and free liquor to go and vote for recently deceased voters. This process was depicted in the Martin Scorsese film Gangs of New York (2002), where drunkards are forcibly shaved (to alter their appearance) and turned back toward polling stations to vote again. In 1933 in Dáil Éireann (the Irish lower house), Thomas Kelly of Fianna Fáil said, > If a poor man is sick in hospital and not able to get out, surely it is a > good turn to see that his vote is registered. If he has gone away and his > neighbours know his opinions, I do not see any harm in personation.
The success of the program led its founders to set it as a five-year series, which was the average number of summer camps attended by a Scout in the late 1920s. Scouts are required to complete the program for five years to earn the highest level Pipestone token. In order to earn pipestone, a Scout must complete the Swimming Requirement, a Good Turn Service Project for the Camp, have Camp Spirit, complete at least one merit badge or advance in rank at camp, complete the ecology requirement (1st-3rd year only), Earn Leadership Points (4th and 5th year only), Complete a Leadership Project (4th and 5th only), and turn in a bundle of a cubic foot of barkless, straight, hardwood (1st-4th year only). The wood is burned in fires during the pipestone ceremonies.
Mountford was born in Kidderminster and began his career playing for local side Kidderminster Harriers before joining Stoke City in December 1942 for a fee of £40. During the War League Mountford established himself in Bob McGrory's side as a right winger providing crosses for Tommy Sale and namesake Frank Mountford. With Stanley Matthews on wartime duty with Blackpool Mountford took his number 7 shirt and Matthews struggled to win it back. Whilst he was not as talented as Matthews, Mountford made up for it with his hard work and possessed a good turn of speed which often took him into goalscoring opportunities. Throughout the 1946–47 season Matthews and Mountford both vied for the right wing position and when Matthews suffered an injury early in the campaign Mountford took his place.

It also points to the fact that realism in games is a means to the end of immersion in the game world, not an end in itself. A turn-based system makes it possible, for example, to run within range of an opponent and kill him before he gets a chance to act, or duck out from behind hard cover, fire, and retreat back without an opponent being able to fire, which are of course both impossibilities. However, tactical possibilities have been created by this unreality that did not exist before; the player determines whether the loss of immersion in the reality of the game is worth the satisfaction gained from the development of the tactic and its successful execution. Fallout has been praised as being "the shining example of a good turn-based combat system".
New York: Little, Brown, and Co., 2002. . Although the Air Force’s F-X proponents remained hostile to the concept because they perceived it as a threat to the F-15 program, the ADP concept (revamped and renamed as the "F-XX") gained civilian political support under the reform-minded Deputy Secretary of Defense David Packard, who favored the idea of competitive prototyping. As a result, in May 1971 the Air Force Prototype Study Group was established, with Boyd a key member. Two of its six proposals would be funded, one being the Lightweight Fighter (LWF). The Request for Proposals (RFP) was issued 6 January 1972, and called for a 20,000 lb (9,100 kg) class fighter with a good turn rate, acceleration and range, and optimized for combat at speeds of Mach 0.6–1.6 and altitudes of 30,000–40,000 ft (9,150–12,200 m).
In the early 1950s St John moved Rank more into the comedy area with films such as Made in Heaven (1952), Penny Princess (1953) with Bogarde, Always a Bride (1953), and A Day to Remember (1953). He was a big believer in making films in colour to compete with television. He also imported many actors from Europe to appear in Rank films. St John championed the work of Norman Wisdom, signing him to a long term contract and putting him in his own vehicle, Trouble in Store (1953) which was a huge success at the British box office. It led to a series of popular Wisdom movies such as Man of the Moment (1955), One Good Turn (1955) He had a huge success with Genevieve, directed by Henry Cornelius, and starring John Gregson, Dinah Sheridan, Kenneth More and Kay Kendall.
In October 1982 Beavers were introduced throughout the rest of the United Kingdom with a uniform of a grey jumper, turquoise necker, maroon woggle and optional grey tracksuit bottoms. The section officially becoming part of The Scout Association and the World Scout Organisation on 1 April 1986 with the introduction of a simplified promise for the section. The initial award for the section was a singular Beaver Scout Award, awarded for at least nine months of participation in a varied programme, at least one visit and at least one good turn. By the time Beavers was officially launched, there were 60,000 Beaver Scouts in the UK. A small change to the uniform came in 1990 when Beaver Scouts were able to wear their group necker instead of a turquoise one and a larger one came from 1991 when girls were allowed into the section for the first time.
Kendall (John Hartmann) is the Human Resources representative for corporate. He was mentioned in the episode "The Job", during Jim's interview, by David Wallace, who called him an "irritating HR guy", and informed Jim that Kendall will probably be the only person that Jim will not like, mirroring Michael's dislike of Toby. In "Business Ethics", when Holly learns that Meredith is trading sexual favors for supply discounts, Kendall not only is not upset by the news, but believes that Meredith is doing the company a good turn, and angrily tells Holly that she has failed to just get the review forms signed, and tells her that if she cannot do that, then they will need another discussion. Given Kendall's authority over Holly, it is reasonable to assume that he is not merely the HR representative for the Corporate office but a more senior HR representative, possibly the department head.
"Sell Up and Sail: Pursue the Dream" - Bill & Laurel Cooper - 9780713674033 - Bloomsbury Publishing UK- Adlard Coles Nautical The special features of the motorsailer (large engine, smaller sails, etc.) mean that, while it may not be the fastest boat under sail, the vessel is easily handled by a small crew. As such, it can be ideal for a retired couple who might not be able to handle large sail areas. In heavy weather, the motorsailer's large engine allows it to punch into a headwind when necessary to make a landfall, without endless tacking to windward. An alternative choice for motorsailer owners who wish to have a sailing vessel that is easier to handle is to choose a catamaran, which provides a stable sailing platform that, even with a modest sail area and small engines, will give both a good turn of speed and a comfortable passage.
A glimpse of the old Brighton restaurant at No.1 Marine Parade can be seen in the background of Norman Wisdom's 1955 film One Good Turn just as Pitkin runs onto the seafront; this is now the site of a Harry Ramsden's fish and chips restaurant. A blue plaque at Oldham's Tommyfield Market marks the first chips fried in England in 1860, and the origin of the fish and chip shop and fast food industries. Dundee City Council claims that chips were first sold by a Belgian immigrant, Edward De Gernier, in the city's Greenmarket in the 1870s. In Edinburgh and the surrounding area, a combination of Gold Star brown sauce and water or malt vinegar, known as "sauce", or more specifically as "chippy sauce", has great popularity; salt and vinegar is preferred elsewhere in Scotland, often prompting light-hearted debate on the merits of each option by those who claim to find the alternative a baffling concept.
Many will say that her career kicked off with the well accepted Old Time Buddy, but some others say it is with her primary leading role in "One Good Turn Deserves Another". The popularity of artists in the Hong Kong television market depends as much on the popularity of the characters in a series as to the ability of the actors and it was not until 1998 that she achieved mainstream popularity with the series "Old Time Buddy", in which she played a character based on 60s teen idol Connie Chan Po-chu. The character was well received because of Maggie's excellent portrayal of Connie Chan. The immense success lead to sequel, To Catch A Thief, a movie, Those Were The Days, and even a platinum selling CD. She has co-starred with numerous male actors, such as Gallen Lo, Louis Koo, Wong He, Roger Kwok, Steven Ma, Joe Ma, Moses Chan, Gordon Lam, and numerous others.
He signed for Southport in 1931 as replacement for Joe Roberts; the Lancashire Daily Post wrote that he was "regarded as a good capture, being ideally built, with a good turn of speed and accurate ball control." His early performances were reported on with enthusiasm, but a knee injury sustained in mid-September interrupted his progress, He had cartilage surgery in November, and the 1–0 win against New Brighton on 24 October proved to be his last appearance, new arrival Fred Dobson having proved successful on the left wing. Ison moved on at the end of the season to Watford, scored the winner in the opening Southern Section match of the season, away to Norwich City, was replaced in the team by Jack Barnes for the fourth match, and never played for them again. He returned to non-league football in 1933, spending three years with Ramsgate Athletic while working in the building trade.
