It was applied by the early French to the Indians living on its banks who bragged about their exploits. The name means to boast or brag, and thus the river received its name.

Kotthoff-Weeks Farm Complex is a historic antebellum era home and farm located near Hermann, Gasconade County, Missouri. The farmhouse and barn were built between about 1850 and 1861, and are of heavy timber frame and stone buildings in the Fachwerk form. The house measures approximately 58 feet by 26 feet and features a stone chimney and fireplace. Also on the property is the contributing log smokehouse (c. 1842).

Ruskaup House, also known as the Ruskaup-Niewoehner House, is a historic home located near Drake, Gasconade County, Missouri. The original section was built between about 1845 and 1850, with an addition made in 1860–1864, and summer kitchen about 1880. The vernacular German farmhouse is constructed of rubble stone. The Meramec River U.S. 66 Bridge - J421 was built in 1931 when US 66 was rerouted to pass through Times Beach, a working- class resort established in 1925 and abandoned in 1983 due to dioxin contamination. The site is now part of Route 66 State Park. Bypassed in 1956, the bridge has deteriorated and is no longer passable. The Gasconade Bridge is another historic Route 66 bridge in Missouri which has been closed by MoDot.

As a journalist with the St. Louis Evening News, Grissom was seated in the last car of the Pacific Railroad train involved in the Gasconade Bridge train disaster of 1855, in which more than thirty people were killed when a bridge collapsed under it. Parks Creek is a stream in Wright and Laclede counties in the Ozarks of southern Missouri. It is a tributary of the Osage Fork Gasconade River. Parks Creek begins at the confluence of two valleys south of Grovespring and just west of Missouri Route 5. The stream flows essentially due north parallel to Route 5 and joins the Osage Fork in southern Laclede County just northeast of Pease and the Missouri Route J bridge.

William Poeschel House, also known as the Poeschel-Harrison House, is a historic home located near Hermann, Gasconade County, Missouri. It was built about 1869, and is a two-story, ell-shaped, red brick dwelling. It features a two-story, gable-roofed portico, and a two-story porch that spans the east side of the rear ell. (includes 8 photographs from 1989) It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

The presiding judge, Mathias McGirk, reversed the decision of the Crawford County circuit court, citing numerous irregularities in both her indictment and the trial process. Mary was re-indicted and a new trial was scheduled. It was originally supposed to be held in Gasconade County, but was later shifted back to Crawford County. The second trial returned the same verdict as the first, and Mary was hanged at Steelville on August 11, 1838.

Rembert is an extinct town in south central Wright County, in the Ozarks of southern Missouri. "Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help", Liguorian, May 1, 2016 In 1906, Mother Solana signed a court document giving the Sisterhood an official title the Polish Franciscan School Sisters of St. Louis. The congregation was known by that name for over twenty years. From 1907 to 1957, the Sisters' central headquarters was the Motherhouse at 3419 Gasconade Street in South St. Louis. Additions were made to accommodate the growing needs of a number of sisters.

The first European-American settlers in Phelps County arrived in the early 19th century, working as farmers and iron workers along the local rivers, such as the Meramec, the Gasconade, and the Little Piney. In 1844, John Webber built the first house in what became the City of Rolla. Nine years later, railroad contractor Edmund Ward Bishop, considered to be the founder of Rolla, settled in the area. The state officially established Rolla as a town in 1858.

After shakedown, Gasconade departed San Francisco 8 May on a troop transport voyage to the Philippines. Steaming via Pearl Harbor, Eniwetok, and Ulithi, she arrived Samar 3 June. Loaded with mail and cargo, she steamed to San Francisco from 18 June to 6 July; thence transported additional troops to the Philippines. Arriving Leyte Gulf 2 August, she served as receiving ship until mid-August when she proceeded to Manila Bay to stage for the Allied occupation of Japan.

Rader, pronounced locally as "rā dŗ", is an unincorporated community in southern Laclede County, Missouri, United States. It is about fifteen miles south of Lebanon at the intersection of Missouri Supplemental Routes ZZ and the Osage fork of the Gasconade River. Rader is served by the post office in Conway. Rader is named from the surname of many of its original settlers, reinforced by the fact that the store within the town was called "Rader Store".

On March 30, St. Francois County issued a stay-at-home order effective April 3. Gasconade County issued a stay-at-home order effective March 31 until April 16. Harrison County issued a shelter-in-place (stay-at-home) order effective March 30 until further notice. Lafayette County issued a stay-at-home order effective March 31 through April 30. On March 31, Crawford County issued a shelter-in-place order effective April 1 through April 30.

Undeterred, he also pushed forward the development of a new type of cannon, originally known as the "Gasconade" or "Melvillade", but better known by its later name, the "Carronade". The carronade was designed as a short-range naval weapon with a low muzzle velocity, and is said to have been invented by Lieutenant General Robert Melville in 1759. It was developed by Gascoigne from 1769 to 1779. It was adopted by the Royal Navy in 1779.

The wedgespot shiner (Notropis greenei) is a species of ray-finned fish in the genus Notropis. It is endemic to the United States, where it is found in the Ozark Uplands of the middle Arkansas River drainage of central Arkansas, northeastern Oklahoma, and southwestern Missouri. It is also found in the White, Black, and St. Francis river systems of northern Arkansas and southeastern Missouri, and the Meramec, Gasconade, and lower Osage river systems of eastern Missouri.

Threemile Creek is a stream in northern Crawford and Franklin counties in the U.S. state of Missouri. It is a tributary to the Little Bourbeuse River.Argo, Missouri, 7.5 Minute Topographic Quadrangle, USGS, 1948 The stream headwaters are in northern Crawford County at and the confluence with the Little Bourbeuse is in the southwestern corner of Franklin County at . The southeastern corner of Gasconade County is within the stream floodplain about 50 feet from the stream channel.

New Grove is an extinct town in western Wright County, in the Ozarks of southern Missouri, United States. The GNIS classifies it as a populated place. The community is located on the north bank of the Woods Fork of the Gasconade River along Missouri Route F, approximately 2.5 miles south of Missouri Route 38.Mansfield NW, Missouri, 7.5 Minute Topographic Quadrangle, USGS, 1951 A post office called New Grove was established in 1905, and remained in operation until 1915.

The bridge formerly carried Route 19 traffic and was closed on July 23, 2007, when the Christopher S. Bond Bridge was opened to traffic.

The Meramec River Hills ecoregion is deeply dissected, with steep-sided hills and chert- covered ridges. The hills tend to be more rugged than in the Osage/Gasconade Hills ecoregion to the northwest. Land use is mainly timber and recreation, with some pastureland for grazing, and barite and iron mining in the southeast. The potential natural vegetation in this region is shortleaf pine- oak forest and woodland, with a greater oak concentration than in forests of the Current River Hills to the south.

After returning to Leyte Gulf 11 October, Gasconade embarked military passengers and sailed for the United States 17 October as part of Operation Magic Carpet. She reached Portland, Oregon, 2 November, transported occupation troops to Nagoya, Japan, 18 November to 5 December; and sailed 8 December on another Magic Carpet voyage, arriving Seattle 19 December. After carrying a garrison force to Guam from 13 to 29 January 1946, she voyaged to Pearl Harbor from 30 January to 8 February with returning veterans embarked.

Marine Villa is a neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri. The neighborhood is located just south of the large and historic Anheuser-Busch Brewery complex along the bluffs of the Mississippi River. It is further defined by Cherokee Street's Antique Row on the north, Gasconade Street on the south, South Broadway and Jefferson Avenue on the west, and the Mississippi River on the east. The Marine Villa neighborhood lies along the Mississippi River, just a few miles south of downtown St. Louis.

Seymour is located on the southeastern edge of the Springfield Plateau in the Ozarks. Streams to the east flow into the Gasconade River, the headwaters of the James River lie to the north and Finley Creek drains the south side of the town. U.S. Route 60 passes the north side of the town and Missouri routes K, C and BB serve the town. The community of Diggins is 4.5 miles to the west and Mansfield is 10 miles to the east along Route 60.

The Meramec River (), sometimes spelled Maramec River is one of the longest free-flowing waterways in the U.S. state of Missouri, draining Blanc, Caldwell, and Hawk. Mungy Branch is a stream in northwestern Phelps and northeastern Pulaski counties in the Ozarks of the U.S. state of Missouri. It is a tributary of Duncan Creek.Newburg, Missouri, 7.5 Minute Topographic Quadrangle, USGS, 1950, (1985 rev.) The stream headwaters arise in extreme eastern Pulaski County just east of Missouri Route MM about 3.5 miles east of Dixon (at ). The stream flows east to its confluence with Duncan Creek in Phelps County (at ) about one-half mile above that stream's confluence with the Gasconade River.

In 1841, David Waldo of Gasconade County, Missouri, was convinced by some friends to purchase land in Jackson County, Missouri. Waldo purchased that ran from what is now Gregory to 91st Street and State Line to Holmes. In 1860 a rail line was established between Westport and Dodson, and a main stop was located in Waldo. When the rail line was converted to street cars in 1907, a brick station was built at the Waldo location, and it became known as the Grand Central Station of Waldo.

These cases can then be appealed to the United States Supreme Court. The Court is based in St. Louis but is organized into three divisions: Eastern, Northern, and Southeastern. The court for the Eastern division is held in downtown St. Louis, in the Thomas F. Eagleton United States Courthouse, where the St. Louis Clerk's Office is located. It covers the counties of Crawford, Dent, Franklin, Gasconade, Jefferson, Lincoln, Maries, Phelps, Saint Charles, Saint Francois, Saint Louis, Warren, Washington, and the independent City of St. Louis.

The Bonneterre is overlain by of dolomite, often sandy, silty or cherty, forming the Elvins Group and the Potosi and Eminence formations. Withdrawal of the seas resulted in another unconformity during the latest Cambrian and early Ordovician periods. Hydrothermal mineralizing fluids formed the rich lead ore deposits of the Lead Belt during this time. Outcrop of Roubidoux sandstone along a bluff in Douglas County, Missouri Sedimentation resumed in the Ordovician with the deposition of the Gunter sandstone, the Gasconade dolomite and the prominent Roubidoux sandstone and dolomite.

Many cemeteries, farm roads, river fords and railways were lost when the lakes came, disrupting rural culture, travel and commerce. Baxter County, Arkansas, alone saw nearly 400 people displaced to make way for the reservoir created by Norfork Dam. The town of Forsyth, Missouri, was relocated in its entirety to a spot from its previous location. Prior to damming, the White and Osage River basins were similar to the current conditions of the Buffalo, Elk, Niangua, Gasconade, Big Piney, Current, Jacks Fork, Eleven Point and Meramec rivers.

In 1804, in the Treaty of St. Louis the Sac and Fox ceded Missouri north of the Gasconade River (but not their villages on the Mississippi River near Keokuk, Iowa). In 1808, in the Treaty of Fort Clark, the Osage Nation ceded all of Missouri and Arkansas west of the fort (now called Fort Osage in Jackson County, Missouri). The exact boundaries of the treaties were never formally surveyed. Resentments about the treaties caused many members of the tribe to side with the British in the War of 1812.

The town is named after Hermann der Cherusker, a Germanic leader who defeated the Romans in the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest in the year 9 AD. In 2009, Hermann celebrated the 2000th anniversary of the battle, in which the Germanic warrior Hermann defeated three Roman legions. A bronze statue of the city's namesake was dedicated in the Hermann Park. Hermann was the nearest town after the Gasconade Bridge train disaster, November 1, 1855. The Lamer Hotel in Hermann was used as a temporary hospital to treat the wounded.

After several hours of arguing the right of the Union to recruit in outstate Missouri, Lyon decided that the meeting had come to an impasse. Standing from the group, Lyon spoke to Jackson and Price: Jackson and Price quickly retreated to Jefferson City, planning their actions and only stopping to burn bridges at the Gasconade and Osage rivers.Meyer (1982), 357. Ordering the state guard to renew preparations for war, Price determined that a capital at Boonville would be better defended than at Jefferson City, and state government removed from there on June 13.

She agreed to marry him, but only after she had graduated, worked for a year, and taken a trip to Europe. They were finally married on 26 November 1924. Their union produced two sons, Johan Norman (Jack) Sverdrup, born in 1926, and Ralph Lee Sverdrup, born in 1928, who died of encephalitis in 1932. In the meantime, Sverdrup took a job with the Missouri State Highway Department. His first major project involved supervising the construction of a bridge for U.S. Route 50 in Missouri over the Gasconade River.

The Hermann AVA is an American Viticultural Area located in Gasconade County, Missouri, and entirely contained within the larger Ozark Mountain AVA. The wine appellation is located on the southern side of the Missouri River near the town of Hermann, about halfway between St. Louis and Jefferson City. The AVA covers the northernmost hills of the Ozark Plateau with many of the 200 acres (80 hectares) of vineyards planted along hillside locations. As of 2007, seven wineries were producing wine in appellation, including Missouri's largest winery, Stone Hill Winery.

The stream flows northwest into southeastern Phelps County and flows north parallel to U. S. Route 63 passing just east of the community of Craddock and Edgar Springs. The stream course meanders across the Phelps - Dent County line a few times finally turning northwest and crossing under U.S. 63 at Yancy Mills. The stream meanders north through the Mark Twain National Forest and turns west at the confluence with Beaver Creek. The stream continues to the west passing Newburg and under Interstate 44 to its confluence with the Gasconade River at Jerome.

Company A, 3rd United States Reserve Corps (U.S.R.C.) Missouri Infantry Reunion, 1894 Members of the three-month service 3rd Missouri US Reserve Corps Infantry Regiment who chose to reenlist in September 1861, when their unit was mustered out of service, were reorganized as the 3rd Missouri US Reserve Corps Infantry Regiment under the command of Colonel Charles A. Fritz, who had been the original regiment's lieutenant colonel. In January 1862, the 3rd U.S.R.C Infantry (Three Years Service) was consolidated with the Gasconade Battalion to form the 4th Missouri Infantry Regiment.

William Quintillian Dallmeyer (October 23, 1829 – March 15, 1908) was an American Missouri politician. William Quintillian Dallmeyer was born in Hanover, Germany.Missouri State Treasurer Scott Fitzpatrick-Past Treasurer's Biography He emigrated to the United States in 1845, living in New York City and New Orleans, Louisiana, before settling in St. Louis, Missouri, where he worked in the dry goods business. In 1856, he moved to Gasconade County, Missouri, where he divided his time between his farm, general store, and serving as the local postmaster and justice of the peace.

Bodies from older graveyards within the city of St. Louis were moved to Bellefontaine, including some from the cemetery by the Old Cathedral near the Mississippi River. Bellefontaine was also the resting place for several victims of the 1855 Gasconade Bridge train disaster, the worst railroad disaster in Missouri history. Also interred at Bellefontaine are members of several notable brewing families, including the Anheusers, Buschs, Lemps, and Griesediecks.

The stream continues to the northwest passing under Missouri Route 38 about one mile southwest of the community of Graff. The stream continues to the north- northwest roughly parallel to Missouri Route 95 past the community of Manes. The stream crosses under Route 95 southwest of Mingsville then turns west passing under Missouri Route AF to enter the Gasconade about two miles south of the Wright-Laclede county line.

In November 1837, an early group of settlers was led by George Bayer, who bought the land on the behalf of the Society. However, George was waylaid in Pittsburgh due to illness and arrived in Hermann in the spring of 1838 leading another group of families. The town was platted after the society sold shares in the of Gasconade River valley land it had purchased. The Hermannhof Winery The society had almost utopian goals of a "heart of German-America" where it could perpetuate traditional German culture and establish a self-supporting colony built around farming, commerce, and industry.

Sloss sequences—long-running changes in sea level, described by American geologist Lawrence Sloss—played an important role in sediment deposition during the Paleozoic. The Sauk sequence formed during the Cambrian, followed by the Tippecanoe in the Ordovician, the Kaskaskia between the full immersion of the Silurian and the early Mississippian. Finally, the Absaroka sequence emplaced into the early Pennsylvanian. The Great Unconformity separates Proterozoic igneous rocks from the Lamotte Sandstone, the basal unit of the Sauk sequence which also includes the Bonneterre Dolomite, Davis Formation, Derby-Roe Run Dolomite, Potosi Dolomite and Eminence Dolomite from the Cambrian, and the Ordovician Gasconade Dolomite, Roubidoux Formation and Jefferson City Dolomite.

The Bourbeuse River (French for 'muddy') is a river located in east-central Missouri, in the Ozarks region, and is one of two major tributaries of the Meramec River, the other being the Big River. The Bourbeuse flows to the northeast from its source () near the locale of Dillon just northeast of Rolla in Phelps County, through Maries, Gasconade, Crawford, and Franklin counties, where it discharges into the Meramec River near Moselle (). The elevation of the river at its source is approximately Dillon, Missouri, 7.5 Minute Topographic Quadrangle, USGS, 1963 (1977 rev.) above sea level and at its mouth about . The total length of the river is ,U.

In 1816 United States surveyor John C. Sullivan was instructed to survey a line north from the mouth for and then proceed east to the Des Moines River. In addition to being a round number, the line Indian Boundary Line (1816) also lined up in the east with the deep Des Moines Rapids on the Mississippi River just south of Fort Madison, Iowa, that was the northern end of navigation on the Mississippi and it also lined up with the westward adjusted boundary from the mouth of the Gasconade River the Sac had ceded in 1808. The land on the east side of the Des Moines River was the site of a Sac village which had not been ceded. Sullivan erected survey markers along the line.

Plato R-V School District The areas south of Fort Leonard Wood, including the unincorporated Pulaski County communities of Big Piney and Palace, are served by the Plato R-V School District, which is based in the northern Texas County village of Plato but also includes parts of Pulaski, Laclede and Wright counties. Nearby school districts in Success, Manes and Gasconade, are K-8 districts which don't have a high school. Some students from those districts attend Plato High School after finishing school in their own district. Fort Leonard Wood is in Pulaski County and a high percentage of military personnel live off post in surrounding communities, especially St. Robert and Waynesville but also the farther-out cities of Richland, Crocker, and Dixon, and the unincorporated communities of Laquey, Swedeborg and Devil's Elbow, all of which have a lower housing cost than nearer housing in St. Robert and Waynesville.

It was named for the cedar trees and the topographic "gaps" which had to be bridged by the railroad in the more rugged terrain of the Lead Hill area to the east, the second highest point in Missouri at .History of Cedar Gap The early railroad also constructed a dam to form the 40 acre Cedar Gap Lake one mile to the northwest on the Wright–Webster county line as a water supply for the steam engined trains. Cedar Gap lies on the drainage divide between the Gasconade River to the north, Bryant Creek which is a tributary to the North Fork River to the southeast and the Finley Creek tributary to the James River to the west.

Missouri was the second-largest wine-producing state nationally until Prohibition. Since the 1960s, numerous vineyards and wineries have been established again in the river valley, including Summit Lake Winery in Holts Summit.
