The 2005 version presented many famous Norwegian acts, such as Datarock, Torbjørn Brundtland of Röyksopp (DJ set), Bertine Zetlitz, Mental Overdrive, Tommy Tee, Jaga Jazzist and Nils Petter Molvær. In 2006 Public Enemy, 120 Days, Bel Canto, Alog, Aavikko, Nicolette, Snook, Frost and Ralph Myerz and the Jack Herren Band were among the most notable acts to perform at the festival.

Jesper Johansson, the lazy, spoiled son of the Royal Postmaster General, has been trying to flunk out of the postman academy, but his father sends him to the distant town of Smeerensburg; if Jesper fails to post 6,000 letters within a year, he will be cut off from his family’s fortune. Arriving in the bleak, snowy town, Jesper meets ferryman Mogens and teacher-turned-fishmonger Alva, who explain that Smeerensburg is home to the perpetually warring Ellingboe and Krum families. Desperate for letters, Jesper attempts to mail a young Krum boy’s drawing. He later visits the reclusive woodsman Klaus and discovers his house is filled with handmade toys, but flees from the imposing woodsman, leaving behind the sad drawing.

If Yorke fails in his mission to destroy the Apache threat, he will have to face a court-martial. Sheridan, in quiet acknowledgment of what he is asking Yorke to risk, promises that if it comes to that, "the members of the court will be the men who rode down the Shenandoah with us" during the Civil War. Yorke accepts the assignment. Yorke leads his men toward Mexico, only to learn that a wagonload of children from his fort, who were being taken to Ft. Bliss for safety – ironic in that the fort was named for a famous mathematician, William Wallace Smith Bliss, and it was failing mathematics that caused Jefferson Yorke to flunk out of West Point – has been captured by the Apaches.

Reviews of the series have been very positive. The series has been licensed in Chinese and English by the Singaporean publishing company Chuang Yi under the title Flunk Punk Rumble. As of February 24, 2010, they have released nine volumes in Chinese and three in English. It received its first ever anime adaption — a crossover anime adaptation Yamada-kun to 7-nin no Majo x Yankee-kun to Megane-chan (山田くんと7人の魔女×ヤンキー君とメガネちゃん 夢の共演コラボアニメーション) which was included in the first DVD and Blu-ray Disc box sets of Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches anime television series adaptation of the manga by the same author.
