In 1917 during World War I, South African fighter pilot Michael Courtney falls in love with Centaine, a French woman. The Sino-Japanese War at Sea 1894 is set in the late 19th century and based on the events of the First Sino-Japanese War (1894–95), which was fought between the Qing Empire of China and the Empire of Japan. A young Deng Shichang enrols in the Fujian Naval Academy, where he meets his future colleagues such as Liu Buchan and Fang Boqian. In 1877, Liu, Fang, and others travel to London to further their studies at the Royal Naval College while Deng remains in China. Some years later, Deng visits his classmates in London and meets Itō Sukeyuki, who is also studying there.
Annie and her brother Geoff find Martha MacKenzie (Jodi Gordon) camped out in the paddock on their farm and they give her a lift back to Summer Bay. Sally Fletcher (Kate Ritchie) enquires about Annie's schooling and Bruce tells her Annie is being home schooled, but it soon becomes apparent that Bruce is lying. Annie enrols at Summer Bay High and Lucas Holden (Rhys Wakefield) helps her, but Geoff sees Lucas as a bad person and continually argues with him. Jakob von Gunten is a first- person account told by its titular protagonist, a young man of noble background who runs off from home and decides to spend the rest of his life serving others. To this end, he enrols at the Benjamenta Institute, a school for servants. Bayu (Emir Mahira) is a sixth-year student who lives with his mother Wahyuni (Maudy Koesnaedi) and his grandfather Usman (Ikranagara); Bayu's father, an athlete turned taxi driver, died in a car accident several years before. Although Bayu wishes to be a football player like his father before him, Usman insists that he should be an artist; the grandfather enrols Bayu in numerous courses to improve his skills in the arts. Bayu sneaks in football practice with the help of his friend, the wheelchair-bound Heri (Aldo Tansani), as well as Heri's driver Bang Dulloh (Ramzi). They find an old, empty cemetery to practise in and the guardian of the cemetery, Zahra (Marsha Aruan) allows them to use it and supports Bayu's goal.
