Some cheap periodicals appealing to the juvenile reader started to appear in the early twentieth century, often with uncredited illustrations. Helen Bannerman's Little Black Sambo was published in 1899, and went through numerous printings and versions during the first decade of the twentieth century. It was part of a series of small-format books called The Dumpy Books for Children, published by British publisher Grant Richards between 1897 and 1904.

The Australian green tree frog (Ranoidea caerulea), also known as simply green tree frog in Australia, White's tree frog, or dumpy tree frog, is a species of tree frog native to Australia and New Guinea, with introduced populations in the United States and New Zealand, though the latter is believed to have died out. William Gravatt FRS (14 July 1806 – 30 May 1866), was a noted English civil engineer and scientific instrument maker. Apprenticed as a mechanical engineer in London from aged 15, after interview he worked with Sir Marc Isambard Brunel on the Thames Tunnel, and then designed bridges for the Calder and Hebble Navigation. Whilst surveying the route for the South Eastern Railway to Dover, he devised the more transportable dumpy level, which is now universally employed. He then supervised the northern engineering team under Isambard Kingdom Brunel on the Bristol and Exeter Railway, where the deployment of his "curve of sines" theorem speeded construction.

Betty goes to her doctor to get a prescription, but he finds a lump in her throat that could be cancerous. When it turns out to be benign, Betty is barely relieved and returns to focusing on her dumpy physical condition. In 1992, former owner Pat Delaney and Van Halen Fan/General Manager Tim 'T.S.' Scott began broadcasting ABC Radio's Satellite Classic Rock Service at WKBH's previous location on the dial, 105.5 FM. Starting from a point with a known elevation and going cross country (successive points being perhaps apart) height differences can be measured cumulatively over long distances and elevations can be calculated.

He was elected captain of the baseball team and was a standout in hockey and track.

Unlike most other stations in this format, the call sign does not include any form of the word "Jack," opting instead to hold over the call letters from a previous format, including the station's former corporate identity. This is similar to its sister station in New York City, which maintained its WCBS-FM call letters during its two-year run as "Jack FM" from 2005 to 2007. A surveying point in Germany Surveying helps determine accurately the terrestrial or three- dimensional space position of points and the distances and angles between them using leveling instruments such as theodolites, dumpy levels and clinometers. Work on one of the first topographic maps was begun in France by Giovanni Domenico Cassini, the great Italian astronomer. In 2013, Foulkes co-wrote the short film Eugene for the Intel and W Hotels Four Stories competition. She is the only female member of the Australian film-making collective Blue-Tongue Films. In 2010, for her acting, Foulkes was nominated for Best New Female Talent at the Logie Awards.

The early commercials showed Frank and Gordon on their journey to becoming Bell mascots; from waiting outside the audition room with other human and animal hopefuls, to the audition itself, and then the meeting with Bell management when they were informed that they had "got the gig" while Gordon eyed up a sandwich on the desk. The Story of Little Black Sambo is a children's book written and illustrated by Scottish author Helen Bannerman and published by Grant Richards in October 1899. As one in a series of small-format books called The Dumpy Books for Children, the story was a children's favourite for more than half a century. Critics of the time observed that Bannerman presents one of the first Black heroes in children's literature and regarded the book as positively portraying Black characters in both the text and pictures, especially in comparison to the more negative books of that era that depicted Blacks as simple and uncivilised. However, it became an object of allegations of racism in the mid-20th century, due to the names of the characters being racial slurs for dark-skinned people, and the fact the illustrations were, as Langston Hughes put it, in the pickaninny style.

Walton-Hamilton and Andrews have co- written 31 children's books, including the "Dumpy" books, The Great American Mousical (2006), also illustrated by Walton, two "Bonnie Boadicea" novels for middle schoolers, The Very Fairy Princess (2010) series, and two unrelated novels. They have also co-edited two anthologies of poetry and songs, and one concept book, Thanks to You: Wisdom From Mother and Child. Walton-Hamilton and Andrews contributed to Kate Dawson, Jodi Glucksman, and Barbara Buck-Aronica's Over the Moon: The Broadway Lullaby Project (2012), a book with accompanying CD.Listings for Emma Walton-Hamilton in WorldCat. Walton-Hamilton has also written a book for adults, Raising Bookworms: Getting Kids Reading for Pleasure and Empowerment (2009). The book won a Parent’s Choice Gold Medal, silver medals from the Living Now and IPPY Book Awards, and Honorable Mention from ForeWord Magazine's Best Book of the Year.

It was later on that his son – and famous psychoanalyst – Jean Laplanche would achieve their family's lifelong ambition of finally reuniting the estate. In 2003, after almost 80 years of Laplanche Family stewardship, Château de Pommard found itself under new proprietors – this time, the Giraud family, from Haute Savoie. Maurice Giraud transformed Château de Pommard into a 21st century wine tourist destination, and employed the society of the craftsmen and artisans, the Compagnons du Tour de France, to renovate the entire premises, as well as introducing the now-trademarked "Grand Vin" hand-blown "dumpy" bottle, based on an original mid-18th-century Pommard wine bottle, and, in 2010, the cuvée Simone, produced from the Simone terroir, which contains one of the highest clay densities in Burgundy. In 2014, Michael Baum, an American software entrepreneur, bought the entirety of the estate and became the first American to own a wine-producing château in Burgundy.

Foulkes has appeared in several Australian feature films since 2006, including Spider (2007), Dying Breed (2008), Animal Kingdom (2010),; the erotic drama Sleeping Beauty (2011); and in the Australian anthology film The Turning (2013). In 2012, Foulkes made her screenwriting and directorial debut with the short film Dumpy Goes to the Big Smoke, a fictional story about a chance encounter that could change a lonely woman's life. The film received positive response from critics and garnered her several awards and nominations, including winning the prize for Best Director at the Sydney Film Festival and was nominated for two AACTA Awards in 2013 In 2013, she played the role of Sherry in the Australian anthology film The Turning, starring Cate Blanchett, based on a collection of short stories by Tim Winton. The film was nominated for the 2013 Asia Pacific Screen Award for Best Feature Film, In 2013, Foulkes was nominated for her acting for the Best New Female Talent at the Logie Awards.

Somewhat piqued, Hosking set out his concerns in a book: Some observations upon the recent addition of the Reading-room to the British Museum; with plans, sections and other illustrative documents (London: Stanford, 1858) that aimed to put the record straight from his perspective. In great detail it explained why this was an obvious case of plagiarism, and why, although some modification was needed since the competition as the dome was now to be for a reading room rather than a gallery, the result was poorer than it need be: "How mean their dumpy dome-room is" Hosking opined. The museum did not agree that Hosking's original competition design had been a significant influence on their eventual approach. She-Devil is a 1989 American black comedy film directed by Susan Seidelman and written by Barry Strugatz and Mark R. Burns. It stars Meryl Streep, Roseanne Barr (in her film debut) and Ed Begley Jr.. A loose adaptation of the 1983 novel The Life and Loves of a She-Devil by British writer Fay Weldon, She- Devil tells the story of Ruth Patchett, a dumpy, overweight housewife, who exacts devilish revenge after her philandering husband leaves her and their children for glamorous, best-selling romance novelist Mary Fisher. The second adaption of Weldon's novel, after the BBC television miniseries The Life and Loves of a She-Devil was broadcast in 1986, the film was shot amid the first season break of Barr's ABC sitcom Roseanne, in New York City throughout spring and summer 1989. For a while, Streep, who was one of the first actresses to read the script, considered taking the part of Ruth herself but later opted to play Fisher instead, as she felt she had dealt with a similar subject in her previous film A Cry in the Dark (1988).
