Missed appointments are common worldwide and are costly for health care systems. The declaration of a PDA removes the affected land from the planning and development processes of both the Sustainable Planning Act 2009 and Brisbane City Plan 2014. The PDA is managed by Economic Development Queensland within the Department of Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning. In addition, an Interim Land Use Plan was prepared to fast-track the development of a Specialist Rehabilitation and Ambulatory Care Centre. On 6 July 2017 the PDS (Proposed Development Scheme) was released for consultation.

Severely ill patients who need close observation but do not require intensive care may be treated in a dedicated area such as a physician-run high-dependency unit. In 2007, some questioned whether the specialty would have a long-term future, if at some point UK government ED targets ceased to exist. This fear seems unwarranted in retrospect, as a clear clinical need for the specialty exists. A further development has been the increase of ambulatory care.

Alternate Destination Care Program permits the field provider to transport stable ambulatory patients that meet specific criteria to one of the GHS ambulatory care clinics. The responding ambulance will be notified prior to arrival if the patient meets the EMD determinant code to qualify for the program. Upon arrival the field provider will complete an assessment and establish concordance with the EMD determinant. If the patient meets this concordance, the patient will be offered transport to one of four pre-selected ambulatory clinics.
The new 8-storey facility will be fully wheelchair-accessible, and include ambulatory care clinics, in- patient beds and family space, as well as four levels of underground parking. The total cost of the project is $500 million, and funding sources include the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, fundraising organized by the hospital, and donors. It provides multidisciplinary ambulatory care for women suffering from breast cancer, gynecologic cancers, and lung, hematologic, gastrointestinal and urologic cancers. Whitney co-chaired an annual luncheon in Saratoga to raise funds to battle breast cancer for The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The Stroke Recovery Center at Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital in Kentucky is also named in honor of Whitney and Hendrickson for their support of that facility.

Although transmission-based precautions generally apply in all healthcare settings, exceptions exist. For example, in home care, AIIRs are not available. The Charité (Hospital) in Berlin Germany has the world's oldest national social health insurance system, with origins dating back to Otto von Bismarck's Sickness Insurance Law of 1883. More current information is contradictory about the dangers of the ingestion of groundsel. A heavily referenced paper from 1989 suggests that the response is immediate and gives pre-ambulatory care recommendations. A Canadian poisonous plants information database references a paper from 1990 in presenting this prenatal warning: "In a case of prenatal exposure, a mother ingested tea containing an estimated 0.343 milligram of senecionine, resulting in fatal veno-occlusive disease in a newborn infant." Information about the pyrrolizidine alkaloids, the substance present in Senecio vulgaris is much less contradictory and all warn of accumulation of the alkaloid.
Perkins drowned in the Miramichi River in New Brunswick, Canada on April 25, 1971 while on a fishing trip. His canoe capsized, and in heavy clothes in the cold water he was unable to swim to safety; although he was presumed to have drowned, his fate was not known with certainty until his body was found washed up on the shore in Blackville, New Brunswick some time later. After Perkins's death, the Penobscot Bay Medical Center named its ambulatory care unit and library after him. Perkins was posthumously inducted in the Maine Sports Hall of Fame in 1982.
RIDTs also allow clinicians to promptly start antiviral treatment in high-risk populations, to formulate effective infection control measures, and to make informed decisions regarding diagnostic investigations. Georges C. Benjamin was born in Chicago, Illinois. He earned a B.S. from the Illinois Institute of Technology, and an M.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine. Following graduation from medical school, he began his career at the Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington in 1981, serving there until he was transferred to the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. in 1983. Kotzebue is home to the Maniilaq Association, a tribally-operated health and social services organization named after Maniilaq and part of the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium. Maniilaq Health Center is the primary health care facility for the residents of the Northwest Arctic Borough. Brown gained notice as the director of the Gouverneur Ambulatory Care Unit on Manhattan's Lower East Side. As Gouverneur director, Brown instituted several policies that were ahead of their time in a clinic most of whose patients lived in poverty. For example, he ensured the waiting rooms were comfortable and that, rather than waiting for hours, patients could make appointments just as patients could in more affluent neighborhoods. And when he learned that Puerto Rican women often failed to show up for their Ob/Gyn appointments because their husbands resisted their being examined by male doctors, Brown sought out female Ob/Gyn physicians to serve these patients.
Drug costs have increased substantially, rising nearly 60% from 1991 through 2005. Despite attempts to contain costs, overall health care expenditures rose to 10.7% of GDP in 2005, comparable to other western European nations, but substantially less than that spent in the U.S. (nearly 16% of GDP). Loma Linda University Children's Hospital is the sole children's hospital for almost 1.3 million of California's youth (San Bernardino, Riverside, Inyo, and Mono Counties). With over 275 beds just for children, the American Board of Surgeons has designated the Children's Hospital as a Level 1 Trauma Center, providing the highest level of trauma care within the Inland Empire four-county area. Each year, more than 15,000 children stay at the hospital and over 130,000 children visit the hospital for ambulatory care. The only medical facility in the Inland Empire specializing in the care of children, Children's Hospital transports over 1,100 critically ill or injured children each year from surrounding hospitals.
On July 10, 2015, NYP announced its merger with the former New York Hospital Queens (formerly known as Booth Memorial Medical Center) to form the Queens campus of the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. Located in Flushing, Queens, NewYork-Presbyterian/Queens is a teaching hospital affiliated with Weill Cornell Medical College that serves Queens and metro New York residents. The 535-bed tertiary care facility provides services in 14 clinical departments and numerous subspecialties, including 15,000 surgeries and 4,000 infant deliveries each year. With its network of affiliated primary and multispecialty care physician practices and community-based health centers, the hospital provides approximately 162,000 ambulatory care visits and 124,000 emergency service visits annually.
Founded in 1889 by the Helping Hand Association, NewYork-Presbyterian/Hudson Valley Hospital, located in Cortlandt Manor, New York, serves residents of the Hudson Valley and Westchester County. The 128-bed facility provides a wide range of ambulatory care and inpatient services, with 350 physicians on staff in 43 specialties. The hospital is home to the region’s only state-of-the-art, 24-hour "no wait" emergency department, which sees more than 39,000 visits per year. In 2011, the Cheryl R. Lindenbaum Cancer Center opened, offering the first comprehensive cancer center in the area, combining infusion, radiation therapy and support services all under one roof.
Home alert systems were conceived and developed in Germany in the early 1970s by Wilhelm Hormann with the aim of developing new comprehensive structures for ambulatory and non-ambulatory care for the sick, the elderly, those who live alone, and people with disabilities. Hormann's concept of "home alert" (Hausnotruf) is thus to be seen as fairly broad, including the communication of biomedical data and social communication, and not limited to use as an "elder alarm". This has been set forth extensively in the research literature on PERS. The technical implementation succeeded with the help of AEG- Telefunken Backnang GmbH and was presented to the international public early in 1980.

In June 2011, the Connecticut General Assembly approved legislation for Bioscience Connecticut, a plan proposed by Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy to jump-start the Connecticut economy. According to the proposal, Bioscience Connecticut will result in the creation of 3,000 construction jobs annually from 2012 through 2018 and a $4.6 billion increase in personal income by 2037, while generating more than 16,000 jobs. In 1993 Dr. Massad received national recognition awards from both the National Association of Community Health Centers and the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine. In 1995 the Residency Program in Social Medicine became the first organization to receive the National Primary Care Achievement Award in Education from the Pew Charitable Trust. In 1996 the Ambulatory Care Network merged with the Montefiore Medical Group and another graduate of the Social Medicine residency program, Dr. Kathryn Anastos, was recruited as its first medical director. Family practice residents began work at the Castle Hill and Valentine Lane family practices, where medical students had been rotating since 1993.

Then, on August 21, 1996, President Clinton signed into law HIPAA, which included a Privacy Rule designed to protect patient's privacy. The privacy rule took effect on April 14, 2003, changing the way hospitals, doctor's offices, outpatient ambulatory care centers, clinics, and surgery centers thought about collecting, sharing, and knowingly exposing Protected Health Information (PHI). In addition, computers started to evolve making it more affordable for institutions to purchase the necessary hardware for an electronic check-in system replacing traditional paper sign-in sheets.

The aging veteran population in New Hampshire led to the addition of a residential nursing home and an ambulatory care wing in the late 1970s. Over the years several medical research centers were established, including one for post-traumatic stress disorder. The center originally had a 28-bed full-service hospital. Starting in 1999 the center eliminated its inpatient care services, and the center concentrated on urgent and primary care and on ambulatory and outpatient services.

The Royal Melbourne Hospital provides acute tertiary referral services at its main site on Grattan Street between Flemington Road and Royal Parade and ancillary services such as aged care, rehabilitation, ambulatory care and residential and community services through its Royal Park site. It has one of the largest Emergency Departments in Victoria and is, with the Alfred Hospital, one of Victoria's two major trauma referral centres. The emergency facilities include: 2 trauma bays, 7 resuscitation cubicles, 25 general cubical beds and 17 short-stay beds. There is also a helipad on top of the hospital so that urgent cases that need to be airlifted from regional areas can be transferred to the Royal Melbourne.
Its proponents argued that due to the large number of Americans affected by the VA, it needed an administrator who had direct access to the president. In their major reform period of 1995–2000, the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) implemented universal primary care, closed 55% of their acute care hospital beds, increased patients treated by 24%, had a 48% increase in ambulatory care visits, and decreased staffing by 12%. By 2000, the VHA had 10,000 fewer employees than in 1995 and a 104% increase in patients treated since 1995, and had managed to maintain the same cost per patient-day, while all other facilities' costs had risen over 30% to 40% during the same period.
The Greater Glasgow's Acute Services Review, published by NHS Greater Glasgow in 2002, recommended replacing the existing Stobhill Hospital building and its 440-bed general medical and surgical inpatient facilities with an outpatient Ambulatory Care and Diagnostic Hospital. In 2017, WMC broke ground for a new ambulatory pavilion on its main campus in Valhalla, NY. The new building is attached to the main hospital. It includes 20,000 square feet of new, private inpatient rooms, 75,000 square feet of office space for affiliated private physician outpatient practices, and 185,000 square feet of ambulatory care services, including an Advanced Imaging Center, an Ambulatory Surgery Center, and a Heart and Vascular Institute. At $230 million, this is the largest healthcare construction project in Westchester County since the hospital itself was built in 1977 and the Maria Fareri Children's Hospital was built in 2004. This building is open, and added 180 new full-time jobs to the hospital and local economy.
In 1988, the medical center completed a three-year, $42 million renovation and expansion that included two new patient floors; a spacious solarium; new pediatrics, inpatient dialysis and mental health units; a women's services floor; a new cardiac services floor; larger and modernized patient rooms throughout the medical center; new radiology and laboratory equipment; and new nursing stations. To aid the ground forces, Israel conducted the largest medical mission in its history, and, although their supplies were not as abundant as those of the other forces, their all-volunteer force of military surgeons was composed both of specialists and sub-specialists, including well-known surgeons. The two units established a unique and constructive method of operation which relied on France's abundant medical supplies and Israel's medical expertise. The Netherlands had sent a small contingent of mostly medics and nurses, which was beneficial for rehabilitation efforts and ambulatory care after patients left the French-Israeli medical quarters. CARE Deutschland supplied ambulances, and Merlin of Ireland supplied trucks and heavy equipment to distribute food and supplies to the refugee camps.
Donabedian developed his quality of care framework to be flexible enough for application in diverse healthcare settings and among various levels within a delivery system. At its most basic level, the framework can be used to modify structures and processes within a healthcare delivery unit, such as a small group practice or ambulatory care center, to improve patient flow or information exchange. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation launched the first phase of Aligning Forces for Quality in 2007 as an effort to help communities build health care systems where none existed. The odds of someone becoming homeless within a year are roughly 1 in 194, a relatively large chance considering the total population of the United States. Homeless women are one of the most rapidly growing groups in the homeless community. In the 1960s, homeless women totaled around 3% of the entire homeless population, however, as of 2016, they comprised nearly 40% While all homeless people are at increasing risk of poor health outcomes, homeless women especially are less likely to benefit from routine medical assistance, health insurance, cancer screening, adequate prenatal care, appropriate ambulatory care, and specialty care. Homeless women also face health challenges such as hypertension, arthritis, mental illness, substance abuse, victimization, and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) like tuberculosis, HIV and are most common in the homeless population.

Callahan earned her undergraduate degree at Loyola University Chicago and both her master's and Ph.D. degrees at Rush University in Chicago, where she served as an administrator at the university or at Rush University Medical Center for more than 25 years prior to coming to Marquette. Callahan has researched and published extensively in the areas of palliative care; pain perception, assessment and management; stress in the perioperative patient; nursing and health systems approach to ambulatory care; and nurse anesthesia. An elected fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, National Academies of Practice, and the Institute of Medicine Chicago, Callahan is the principal investigator of a National Institute of Health – National Cancer Institute study on "Interdisciplinary Palliative Care Education." Callahan has served in various leadership capacities in state and national nursing and nurse anesthesia organizations.
Re- Vision 2000, a modernization push by the hospital, included a 1994 renovation, 1992 two-story addition containing new intensive care and coronary care units, 1992 new information services and finance building named after Sr. Mary Charles Dever, DC, former hospital President and CEO, and in 1993, a new Surgical Department. In early June 2013, it was announced that the Daughters of Charity would be leaving Sisters of Charity Hospital for other ministries later that month after 166 years staffing the institution. A nonprofit foundation, the Martin Luther King Jr. – Los Angeles Healthcare Corporation, was established to administer the hospital.
The £65 million development will have 66 private beds, run by HCA Healthcare, and 72 NHS beds, run by the trust, a new radiotherapy unit and operating theatres. Construction, by Vinci Construction UK started in May 2019. The Department of Health and Social Care lent the combined trust £162 million in May 2018. £87 million is for a new ambulatory care and diagnostics centre at Heartlands Hospital. The trust opened an office in Beijing in October 2018, hoping to find business opportunities in China, which could include consultancy, the trust’s in house clinical software, and advice about construction of new hospitals. In May 2019 it was negotiating with Babylon Health with plans to use the technology for virtual outpatient consultations, chronic disease management, and triage both before and after patients arrived at the emergency department using Babylon’s symptom checker app.
Fisher Plaza, which is the headquarters building for Fisher Communications and Fisher's ABC affiliated Komo radio and television stations for Seattle, is used for some exterior shots of Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital, such as air ambulances landing on the Komo Television newscopter's helipad. This puts Seattle Grace conveniently close to the Space Needle, which is directly across the street from Fisher Plaza, the Seattle Monorail, and other local landmarks. However, the hospital used for most other exterior and many interior shots is not in Seattle, are shot at the VA Sepulveda Ambulatory Care Center in North Hills, California. Most scenes are primarily filmed in Los Feliz, Los Angeles, at the Prospect Studios, and the set occupies two stages, including the hospital pieces, but some outside scenes are shot at the Warren G. Magnuson Park in Seattle.
In 2004, a contract worth in excess of A$142 million for refurbishment and development of new facilities at Westmead Hospital was awarded to Thiess. As works were nearly completion in July 2007, NSW Minister for Health, Reba Meagher together with NSW Member for Parramatta Tanya Gadiel inspected the new Women's Health and Newborn Care Centre that provides a new birthing unit, special care nursery and neonatal intensive care unit, 41-bed maternity ward, antenatal and gynaecology inpatient wards and ambulatory care clinics in the one location. It is expected that by 2011, more than 5,000 babies will be born at Westmead Hospital each year. Refurbishment of cancer wards at Westmead Hospital occurred at around the same time; based on the US-style comprehensive cancer centre model which combines cutting-edge services with a patient-friendly approach.

Canadians offered free care in the US paid by the Canadian government have sometimes declined it. An analysis using data from the 1996–1997 National Population Health Survey (NPHS—a large survey representative of the Canadian noninstitutionalized population, including 17,276 Canadian residents) reported that 0.5% sought medical care in the US in the previous year. Of these, less than a quarter had travelled to the U.S. expressly to get that care. This was supported by an additional analysis performed from the American side, using a structured telephone survey of all ambulatory care clinical facilities located in specific heavily populated U.S. urban corridors bordering Canada and discharge data for 1994–1998 from major border states, and contacted key informants at each of U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Hospitals" to inquire about the number of Canadians seen in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

The old West Penn Hospital building, at the base of Pittsburgh's Polish Hill and near the busy industrial center known as the Strip District. The new hospital and its staff would be tested repeatedly over the coming years — the 1918 flu epidemic saw West Penn again commandeered by the federal government, the Great Depression eroded the financial resources of West Penn and nearly every other American hospital, and World War II drained West Penn of physicians and nurses. West Penn survived those tests, and after the war, in 1950, West Penn added a new obstetrical wing, an intensive care unit came in 1958, and by the 1960s, another substantial expansion was underway. Led by board President Aiken Fisher, West Penn launched a capital campaign to build a new entrance to the hospital along Millvale Avenue, and to build a new ambulatory care center along Liberty Avenue (to be named Mellon Pavilion).
The following year, the association opened an emergency care center, ACCESS (Ambulatory Care Center- Emergency Services System) in Reston.
